In the beginning feels a little bit boring, but later the story becomes a sad drama who ends at tragedy and makes you feel with a lump in throat with a amazing sadness.
the photography, script and performances are impeccable, I would dare to said that this is most popular gay movie in the history, and with a good reason, shape portrait incredibly realistic what it was being gay in the american west in the 60's and the impact it had on western society and hollywood was phenomenal.

I was completely mesmerised by Brokeback Mountain. It is such a beautiful and poignant film, that also benefits from being gorgeously shot and adeptly acted and directed. The film does move slowly of course, but I personally think thatI was completely mesmerised by Brokeback Mountain. It is such a beautiful and poignant film, that also benefits from being gorgeously shot and adeptly acted and directed. The film does move slowly of course, but I personally think that Brokeback Mountain was deliberately paced like that(I said very similar things about 2001 and The Godfather too, they are constantly criticised for being boring yet both had their reasons for being paced like that). The slow pacing allowed us to empathise with the characters more, and that paid off, because the characterisations are superb. As are the beautifully written and thought-provoking screenplay and gentle scoring. Ang Lee's direction is the best it's been here I feel, while the cinematography and scenery are simply breathtaking. The acting is excellent. Heath Ledger I think gives his best performance here(sorry Dark Knight fans, I loved him there, but he was beyond amazing here), while Jake Gyllanhaal is very believable, and Michelle Williams is heart-wrenching. Also Brokeback Mountain is quite emotionally affecting, it really makes you think and the sheer beauty of the visuals, acting and story are enough to make me cry, and I was in pieces after the ending. In conclusion, a mesmerising film. 10/10 Bethany Cox… Expand

As someone who is bisexual himself, this movie made me cry so much, especially the scenes where Jack and Ennis hug or fight. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal performances were astounding, they gave such beautiful, emotionally powerful, and deep performances and their chemistry was extraordinary just so beautiful and natural; two of the best performances I have ever seen and some of the best chemistry I have seen between co-stars. Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway, Linda Cardellini, and Anna Faris gave outstanding supporting performances. The writing was exceptional, the story and screenplay were just so beautifully heartbreaking. The character development of Ennis Del Mar, Jack Twist, and Alma Beers Del Mar was phenomenal. The cinematography was gorgeous. The costumes were stupendous especially ones wore by Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway, Anna Faris, and David Harbour. The makeup and hairstyling was spectacular especially on Heath Ledger, Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Williams, Anna Faris, Linda Cardellini, David Harbour, and Kate Mara. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The relationship this has to truth, is possibly - that the author saw a man in a bar give another man a look she could only associate with passion (source quote).

Two sittings. First, I couldn’t watch it. I got a gist, but there were a lot of silly wigs and moustaches.

Second time... Day after watching. Yes. Alain de Boton joke- “If we move from anger, to sadness, then we will have made psychological progress.” From Why you will marry the wrong person talk. Meaning- this is the sort of thing psychotherapists say…
But so, reminds me, people know this, and they do it. Perhaps even, the scriptwriters did. Ennis starts, angry- ends sad. You will have a sense of achievement, if you do this.

Mistake at the end. I feel having ‘he was a friend of mine’ on the soundtrack- as the song you have in your head to go home to... is a mistake. Current understanding, 'he was a friend of mine'- the song- is not saying, he was my lover.

I thought it was alright. So it’s a passionate affair.

Painting by numbers? What do I mean. You have to meet someone, in 5 seconds flat. Jack’s parents, are protestant. The house is virtually empty except for a cross. Almost ludicrously so. Bosses are stubborn.

I think that the four main actors had a bit of a dare and giggle, that they would all be nude at some point. Drinking dare.

Apart from that, and a few other things, it was fine. Fairly compelling.

A nadie se le escapa ni la banda sonora ni la fotografía, obviamente, y por supuesto las interpretaciones increíbles de los protagonistas. Es prácticamente una película icónica desde su estreno, no necesito del paso del tiempo para convertirse. Je pensais à faire un jeu de mots en introduction avec back... mais en fait avec broke back, c'est déjà fait. En tout cas, le film atteint ses objectifs en matière de défense de la communauté LBGT ou LGBT (je ne sais jamais dans quel sens çaJe pensais à faire un jeu de mots en introduction avec back... mais en fait avec broke back, c'est déjà fait. En tout cas, le film atteint ses objectifs en matière de défense de la communauté LBGT ou LGBT (je ne sais jamais dans quel sens ça se met) avec ses allusions (pas trop appuyées cela dit) sur l'intolérance et l'homophobie.

Il faut dire qu'au Wyoming ou au Texas, les cow-boys avec leurs chapeaux n'aiment visiblement pas faire des heures supp' dans les usines à Suchards ou du moins pas tous, voire très peu en fait à l'époque du film qui se passe dans les années 60 et après. Pour ça, il aurait fallu émigrer à Frisco mes mignons !

Heureusement, il n'y a rien de trop frontal et en vérité, tout se passe comme dans un couple hétéro sauf qu'ils trompent leurs bonnes femmes respectives avec le copain cow-boy... d'ailleurs, la tronche quand l'une d'elles l'apprend -gazon maudit à l'envers- ça vaut son pesant de haricots en boîte ! Car nos homos ont femmes, enfants et bagages et en apparence une vie tout-à-fait normale...

Ce serait en fait presque intéressant, ou au moins drôle, si le film d'Ang Lee n'était pas aussi mou du genou et endormi parce qu'on se fait chier plus mortellement que dans un épisode de Plus belle la vie. Les deux acteurs font ce qu'ils peuvent mais ont toujours l'air un peu ridicule quand ils... (ah non pas la rime) se voient. On y croit pas et on s'emmerde à fond...

Il aurait fallu en faire une comédie, j'avais déjà une idée de titre en tête (la turbine maudite par exemple) parce que là on s'en branle de tout ça en fait.… Expand

Watching the film, I found that the script suggests something different: two lonely men whose unfulfilled emotional needs lead to a homosexual affair, despite their marriages and individual commitments. There is no love in this. The film is essentially about doubts, unfulfilled emotions, moral and emotional conflicts, the breaking of taboos and the consequences that it has afterwards, in the life of the one who did it. In any case, it is undeniably one of the most remarkable films of Heath Ledger's career. The actor deserves applause for his work in this film, where he dominated and stole the limelight from his own colleague Jake Gyllenhaal. This actor, for his part, has always been much more obliterated and the way he interpreted was not so interesting or consistent. Ang Lee did a decent job, but he seemed to be particularly focused on giving the film a good scenery and cinematography, with great success in that. Even so, the result of his work was a lukewarm, slow-paced film, and that makes it annoying, cutting off the connection between the audience and what they're watching.… Expand

Brokeback Mountain is slow and methodic, yet incessantly beautiful all the same. With some gorgeous shots of Wyoming in its back pocket, Ang Lee's romantic western is a moving portrayal of gay love in a time when it was unacceptable to theBrokeback Mountain is slow and methodic, yet incessantly beautiful all the same. With some gorgeous shots of Wyoming in its back pocket, Ang Lee's romantic western is a moving portrayal of gay love in a time when it was unacceptable to the majority of society. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal have undeniable chemistry and their love is believable. However, I have many problems with their romance, which prevents me from loving the film. Firstly, Lee decides to show them eating beans and then bang, all of a sudden, they are lovers. Though there is sexual tension between them beforehand, it seems odd that in a time when being gay is so taboo, two men would quickly rush into sex.

Secondly, the film skims through years and opts to ignore the negative side of this romance. Yes, these two love each other. However, what about their wives (Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway)? What about their children? Not only are they both adulterers, but they ignore their spouses and children repeatedly in the film. I get that they are repressed homosexuals, which is obviously terrible, but it makes it hard for me to feel sympathy for two men who are so morally repugnant. The only mistake these women made was marrying a man who is gay, which apparently makes them deserving of being cheated on. There is no sympathy for the struggles of our gay lovers due to their lack of respect for the women in their lives and, heck, even their own kids. Ennis (Ledger) very clearly never sees his daughters. By the end, he only has a relationship with one (Kate Mara). How is this okay? Lee makes some effort to condemn the deception to Ennis' wife, but quickly reverts to trying to make us feel sympathy for him once more.

That said, their relationship is undeniably electric. Though I have problems with the rushing of it all, Lee does expertly counter this by showing Gyllenhaal's initial hesitation to rush things with Hathaway. Through this, we are able to see his true colors and sexual desires. It is also showcased in his interactions with Hathaway and Ledger. While with his wife, he clearly lacks passion and is on edge. With Ledger, he is loose, free, and head over heels. Lee develops this angle brilliantly.

Additionally, the ending sequence made me into a believer. The clothing, the photo, and the trauma Ennis faces at the end, really hit home. In order for non-gay viewers to truly overcome any prejudices, this scene is almost a much, because it shows how real their love is for them. They did not choose this life. Instead, it was who they are. This is ever present in this scene and is truly the dramatic and romantic triumph of this film. While the development of the romance felt off for me, the ending was easily the best part of this film.

Brokeback Mountain is beloved by many. For me, it is a good western and good romance, but simply never commits to actually developing the romance, instead opting to fast forward to the "good bits" with no build-up. Even worse, it never fully condemns the more reprehensible actions of Ennis and Jack. That said, the emotional power and force of this film is impossible to deny.… Expand

This movie is really inspiring , soulful and realism. The performances of Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Leadger are simply magnificent . Ang Lee's story on two gay loving cowboys is just a complete waste of my time. I never thought that after lee's blockbuster bust, "Hulk" that he would create something completely worse. A lot of the movie is just sex, which had plenty of scenes that i've never want to see ever again. The acting may be decent, but when you put these characters in a story like this, it just doesn't work. Plain and Simple. Honestly, I think Lee can do much better than this crap. He somewhat did that with "Life of Pi", but I'm still waiting for that one movie of his that'll hopefully redeem him as one of the greatest directors of our time. But right now, this what we're stuck with. Overall, this movie is a terrible storyline to go off of.… Expand

The pace is perfect to make you feel the loneliness people in the Mid West around the 60´s-70´s used to feel, and especially the characters here presented. Once the film ends, you can´t get out of your head this impactful movie. Cinematography is crazy good. And the acting... so real, perfect and raw. Jake Gyllenhaal does a great job, Anne Hathaway is great in her little role, Michelle Williams is all kinds of outstanding... but Heath Ledger... a performance that defines a career. I would have given the oscar to him that year. Incredible what he did with his character. I give the movie a 10 because there´s no flaw one can find. Crash winning over Brokeback and Munich was the biggest joke in the Academy´s history. At least it got 3 including best director.… Expand

I was so long seeking for this kinda...oww Cristal!Finally a masterpiece illustrating natural love, unfair of living not-being-yourself after repressing the love truly alive in your heart. The story, the actors, youu.. sweet Ang Lee, I soo thank you! for these 'golden frames'!.. Heath Ledger.. wow. Astonishing.. Jake Gyllenhaal..gorgeous! And all the other ppl involved! Their work fascinates me. I'd rlly go on for some extraass..! All in this moved me to tears..With some risks.. they could have been happy on their own. even letting their families broken..(moved me too, Michelle Williams is amazing!)
Only they.. and the Brokeback Mountains - the sacred place that brought them together- But..it' was a sacrifice the world would've never understand.. the world'd never let it be so.. I don't give many tens, but this deserves it. Aside from being beautifully directed, with great technical aspects, as well as great acting, this is one of the most beautiful scripts of the 21st century so far. It didn't surprise me when II don't give many tens, but this deserves it. Aside from being beautifully directed, with great technical aspects, as well as great acting, this is one of the most beautiful scripts of the 21st century so far. It didn't surprise me when I found out Annie Proulx was a finalist for a Pulitzer for the short story, which is translated very well by the two screen writers. The movie starts out very innocent and sweet, and then it starts to turn into a gradual downward spiral of devastation until you're just left emotional knocked out by the end of the movie. The themes of society's influence on human behavior, the desire for happiness, and demise caused by obsession, are all subtly, yet powerfully, conveyed in this movie. Calling this a gay love story is like calling Lord Of The Rings a movie about hiking. This is one of the most torturous, psychological portrayals of two people's lives I've ever seen in a movie. It's so well calculated, without coming off the least bit unnatural. I've seen it several times, and I still pick up on things that I hadn't caught onto before. I heard it was a groundbreaking movie about a gay romance, and I didn't get how that was, since there had been many movies about gay romances before. I figured it was probably an overrated movie. When I saw it, I realized I couldn't have been more wrong. Your emotional connection will be irrelevant to your sexual orientation. What is really going to connect you to the movie are your ideas about the pressure to conform to society, compared to your desire to live a life of happiness. One man chooses conformity, and the other chooses happiness, and it doesn't necessarily end up how you might expect. I'm actually getting emotional writing this, thinking about the movie. I really hope everyone who watches it is able to pick up on the subtle themes, the hidden meanings behind specific lines, and the inner thoughts of particular characters who might not be ready to say those thoughts out loud, or even admit them to themselves. Those kind of things are extremely difficult to incorporate into a script without losing its realistic feel, but this movie does it. Of course, it might take a few views to pick up on everything. Whether you're judging this movie on its intelligent, calculated writing, its technical achievements, its performances, of which Heath Ledger's is one of the best of the 21st century, or its overall directing, or if you judge a movie on its emotional appeal, and its powerful, thought provoking themes, I can't see how you objectively give this movie anything less than a strong review.… Expand

The point, however, is that the added cowboy element has little if no benefit to the story-line. On balance though, it is a satisfying watch with marvelous cinematography and music.… Expand

You can't deny it! It's a great love story (almost platonic!) between two young men! Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal give two fantastic performances, making the movie realistic and heart-wrenching. Everyting in this movie is BEAUTIFUL, there are no words to describe It. I remember when I watched it for the first time, it was automatically my favourite movie ever, simply because you have to feel involved in the story. Though the movie describes an homossexual relationship, that's not the point. This movie is about LOVE, that's it! It's a story about TWO PERSONS THAT FELL IN LOVE FOREVER! In the final, if you thought the film would be a clichÃ©, you were wrong. GOD, in the final, Heath gives one of the most devastating scenes in the cinema, you can't help crying everytime you see it. Ang Lee knows how to put emotion into a movie. Gyllenhaal was amazing! LEDGER proved he was the BEST ACTOR OF HIS GENERATION!

I'm pretty sure that most of the people on this website that are giving this film a "0" haven't even seen it. It's always "ruining our country's morals" or "shoving the gay agenda down our" throats. Does gay marriage affect your life in any way? Didn't think so. As for those of you that argue with the well-developed "God hates fags" statement, I hear Westboro Baptist Church is taking supporters. As long as the world realizes that there is nothing positive about 1. Fornication, 2. Adultery, or 3. Prostitution then sure its a great movie. I just watched the movie and I'm pretty depressed, no happiness can be found by people who give in to their sexual desires in the way these two characters did. A heartbreaking tale of love denied, made all the more poignant with Ledger's passing. Stick it with it past the deliberate opening 1/2 hour, and the final emotional impact packs a whallop.

At first, I was confused to how fast the story was moving with the very short scenes; but then understood the movie has to be told like this as it takes place over somewhat 20years. Looking back, this method of story-telling was very effective. As a true horror, sci-fi and animie fanatic, even I found this movie breathtaking. Scenery, story and acting was spot on. I thought this movie was one of the most brilliant movies ever made. Everyone says "if it had been a man and a woman no one would have cared". That's the point! It's different. And beautiful.

Null... takes too long... you really need to want to watch it or else you quit really fast !!!!!!! People have left the movie place before the action... too bad cause if you persist and watch it till the end its is ok.

Horribly over-rated. The only reason this movie gets such high reviews is because the reviewers don't want to appear as homophobic. This movie is basically City Slickers+ gay cowboys - humor and entertainment.

I just saw "Brokeback Mountain" for the first time today 1/27/08 and I was totally swept away. It was an amazing story built around beautiful scenery. Probably the most moving film that I have ever seen. As for the comments of any man rating this above a "1" needing to check himself in the mirror, I am happily married for 10 years and my wife and I have a number of gay friends. One of the most moving and poignant movies I've ever seen. It's more about love than sexuality ... I avoided watching it for a long time, then started to watch it every time it's on a movie channel. Heart wrenching.

I watched the movie several times and I think that there should have been more love scenes between Jack and Ennes to show their true love and I did not want Jack to die, I wanted him and Ennes to finally be together but overall an excellent film.

A definite 10 from me! I only watched this film for the first time a couple of hours ago, and it was one of the most, if not the most, deeply moving and touching films I've ever seen. It reduced me to tears at the end! I was A definite 10 from me! I only watched this film for the first time a couple of hours ago, and it was one of the most, if not the most, deeply moving and touching films I've ever seen. It reduced me to tears at the end! I was anticipating that the whole film would be a build up to a happy moment at the end when Jack and Ennis could finally be together, but it's better the way it ended. It was a real eye opener. One of those films that make you look at life, the opportunities you have for happiness, and whether you take them. Yes, a very beautiful film. With a beautiful soundtrack too. Some of the shots portraying the intimacy between them are just so touching, what great performances by Heath and Jake! Absolutely lovely. This film has left a real imprint on me, very poignant.… Expand
