This was pretty schmaltzy somewhat saved by charming talented actors who are easy on the eyes. All stops are pulled out in this kiwi soap opera and they might have gotten away with it but for the SCORE!!!! I rarely leave before the credits finish rolling but as if the over the top instrumental drowning of the story hadn't been sufficient then my ears were expected to suffer through some sappy pop sing to finish it all off. Might have been Jewel or maybe a Jewel wannabe, who would wannabe? One more minute and I would have needed artificial resuscitation. I will say they did manage to convey the vulnerability and claustrophobic suffering that some women experienced in that time period. Sadly women in war zones and other impoverished places still have no control over who they marry and no choice about when and how often they'll bear children. News of a pregnancy can be the best or the worst news that never changes. Thank heaven for birth control and imagine how much better the world would be if all women had that option. I digress if you like those big technicolor women weepies from the 50's you'll love it.…Expand
