Seriously Femwoke and seriously bad. Bad direction, dreck plot, exposition dumps, pointless f*** words for no reason, massively up its own fundament. Wanna be Deadpool suitable for wokecels only. Boringly stupid all-round.

I hated Suicide Squad, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I found myself enjoying Birds of Prey. However, the movie is not without its problems. If you go into this movie thinking its the best DC movie of all time, you are going to beI hated Suicide Squad, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I found myself enjoying Birds of Prey. However, the movie is not without its problems. If you go into this movie thinking its the best DC movie of all time, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

While I did thoroughly enjoy the performances of Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor, the writing of Birds of Prey leaves a LOT to be desired. It's 2020 and DC has yet to figure out how to write a good story! The story structure borrows way too heavily from Deadpool, and honestly, the constant 4th wall breaking and narration got to be grating. The Birds of Prey are really empty characters, and I feel like I learned nothing about who they are as people. The best part of the plot was seeing Harley Quinn post breakup. The whole story about the diamond macguffin thing was really stupid, and I couldn't care less about it.

The action and direction is pretty fun. I can't lie, I found a lot of that to be really enjoyable. I also really liked how they didn't shy away from how violent a lot of the characters are, especially Harley Quinn herself. This isn't a movie I think I will ever willingly seek out again, but I would be lying if I said I hated the entire thing.… Expand

Of the 1000 or so movies I’ve seen in 50-55 years, I have only walked out maybe twice. So I stayed and just got more disappointed. The Woke feminist messages, (idiot, weak police, creepy guys, thugs, all men are evil!) the non-sexy Harley costumes, the nearly nonexistent storyline. The breakfast sandwich? The Black Mask rarely wearing the mask, (and face, it he was not that interesting) the young pick-pocket girl that could not act. Help! Let me out of this lame, bright, crazy world! Made me want to watch Suicide Squad again, did not realize how great that was!… Expand

Those two seeds obviously being the undeniably prolific and popular Harley Quinn character and the slightly more esoteric Birds Of Prey comics. Both are Batman-related, yes, but the lore surrounding these two entities crossing paths in the past is scant, to say the least. So what did we end up getting in this de facto first attempt at bringing these characters together in any form, let alone on the big screen?

It's alright. A tad scatterbrained and lopsided, but an enjoyable film, nonetheless.

Margot Robbie is having a blast, but it's almost futile to think the powers-that-be cared about anything other than a chance to capitalize on the Harley Quinn craze (see Harley Quinn's contributions taking up three-quarters of the title & Warner Bros. recent, post-release rebranding of the film). Ewan McGregor is a welcomed face. Though, I couldn't help but notice that his character was a bit of a mishmash of other Batman villains, rather than being an entirely accurate portrayal of "Black Mask." Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli is quite inspired, but supremely underutilized. Again, lopsided, scatterbrained, but enjoyable. The fight scenes are a smash, the set design is interesting to look at, and even the cinematography is sleek and eye-catching. However, I'm not sure I can ever justify these characters all being in the same movie together. Did Harley Quinn really need the Birds Of Prey in order to succeed in her own movie? Why even include the Birds Of Prey, when a Harley Quinn solo film was what was so obviously teased at all along? These questions will rattle around upstairs for only the next few hours, sure, but I can't blame myself for doing so in an attempt to get closer to what exactly went wrong, what could have been and what might yet still be.

For now, though, I still think it was simply alright.… Expand

Margot Robbie is great, and it has some really great visuals and action sequences. Unfortunately, all of the other characters are underdeveloped. It's poorly paced and hectically edited to the point where I just found it really obnoxious.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Acting: Everyone does a great job bringing their characters to life and doing the best possible with a very meh script. Particular standout for me was Huntress, as she gets only about 5 minutes of screen-time in total, but every second was solid gold and made me forget about the flaws of the movie.

Action: Mostly good. Great in the first half, noticeable dip in quality for the final few scenes.

Music/Sound: Great

Story: Mediocre. The most interesting characters get the least amount of screen-time (possible that they're the most interesting BECAUSE we're not hit over the head over and over with their story). Very ham-fisted storytelling. There is no subtlety in this movie. None. If there's a plot point, you'll see it again at least once (and probably thrice).

In the entire movie there is a total of one male character who is not a villain. There's an entire fight scene with a bunch of people trying to kill Harley for no reason at all (not to be confused with all of those who are doing so for a reason, or those who are doing so for a bad reason, or those that don't care about Harley but she's in the way). It's possible there is a background character seen crossing the street who isn't a villain, but even then, I'm pretty sure he was jaywalking.

A couple friends saw the movie after I did, who absolutely loved everything about the movie. They agreed with my assessment of there being no men that weren't actively villainous, and they felt that was perfectly fine. The movie is perfectly meh, and deserving of 5-6; I'd normally round up, but because of their thoughts I'm rounding down instead.… Expand

Bad movie. I liked the reshoots by JohnWick's director, Chad Stahelski, because the previous version was terrible without those action sequences. I liked the arc of Huntress as well, she's a good assassin. And the flashbacks and flashforwardsBad movie. To most people contemplating Watching Birds of Prey they wish to know whether or not this film is better than Suicide Squad. To that I answer which is better a heart attack or a stroke? The truth of the matter is, this movie is bad, reallyTo most people contemplating Watching Birds of Prey they wish to know whether or not this film is better than Suicide Squad. To that I answer which is better a heart attack or a stroke? The truth of the matter is, this movie is bad, really bad. I could go on how this is a massive missed opportunity for a Harley Quinn/Posion Ivy film or female lead superhero film but for this review I won't. Often with movies like this it's hard to begin to note the serious underlying issues within a film but in this case it's quite easy and that is the films screenplay.

This films screenplay has to be one of the worst scripts ever written for a movie. I honestly think that if you made a film about how this screenplay managed to get green-lit and filmed it using a potato you would instantly have an infinitely better film. The number of plot jumps, tonal shifts, lack of regard for continuity, awful dialogue, overuse of tropes and forgettable characters should be reason enough to burn the script and blacklist the writer (Who was also responsible for 2017's Unforgettable). What you ultimately have in this film is an inferior gender swapped DC version of Deadpool 2 mixed with elements of Suicide Squad. Anti-hero protagonist takes on juvenile criminal orphaned ward. Said ward is wanted by the films villain, anti-hero realizes they care for the kid, anti-hero assembles a team of unsung heroes to save kid, etc. Its borderline insulting to audience.

Next up we have characters. Each character in this film is presented with some form of backstory Huntress, an orphaned assassins who hunts down the men who killed her family; Montoya a middle aged detective overlooked by her male counterparts; Black Canary, a nightclub singer bound in service to Black Mask; Cassandra Cain, a criminal foster child with slight of hand; and Harley Quinn the ex paramour of the Joker. They are rivaled by C tier Batman villain's Black Mask, a woman hating mob boss; and Zsasz, a psychopathic killer who marks his kills on his body. All of these however are very valid backstories supported by decade long comic runs, however every single one of these characters have no ark at all and are completely one dimension and insulting to their source material such as Montoya and whatever constitutes as Victor Zsasz in this film. I had no enjoyment watching any of them and for as good as Margot Robbie is as Harley Quinn there is just too damn much Harley and it gets exhausting. Ewan McGregor who has really shined recently is just sad to watch as Black Mask, and I also feel for Mary Elizabeth Winstead who was just wasted.

The films direction is also questionable if you loved the tacky and hideous set and costume design of Suicide Squad you'll probably be okay with Birds of Prey. Once again the cast look like homeless people and the sets pumped with more than enough neon and dark colors. Fight sequences offer little that is new and feel crammed into the movie to wake up the audience. The stakes in this movie are low and I found I really didn't care about the plight of the heroes.

I definitely recommend not watching this movie. If you're after spectacular screenplay watch Parasite or Marriage Story or if you wish to see a great movie co-written by a woman watch 1917. But this is a definite missed opportunity.… Expand

If this miserable sludge gets into (and infects) too many heads, there will be many more needing to see a shrink before too long. No redeeming qualities – as a result of the mindlessly trashy content, even the expensive effects are cheapened beyond interest. I was pretty sure that nothing could overcome "Suicide Squad" in terms of bad filmmaking. I was wrong. This movie is just silly. Simple as that. As if it has been written and filmed by a 6-year old kid who secretly watched Deadpool. Waste of time.

I took my husband and 2 sons to go and see Birds Of Prey featuring Harley Quinn and was appalled to hear homophobic slurs used throughout the movie! Luckily the Sonic Movie was screening in the next room and my family had a much better experience!

So bad I couldn’t get to the end. And it was the main character, or perhaps the way she was portrayed, that made it so terrible. The nasally twang to her voice, her dumbness, her look. The nasally twang to her voice, her dumbness, her look. I know I’m not the target audience and it was probably a foregone conclusion that I wouldn’t like it all that much, but for a film to be so awful it’s unwatchable, that’s quite rare.

I think it was the point where Harley had drunk herself into a stupor, and was therefore at the mercy of the creep in the alleyway, that I realised I’d had enough. That and Ewen McGregor (was he just slumming it for the pay cheque?).

Maybe the end was spectacular and if I’d held on the movie would have redeemed itself. But I just couldn’t bear it. As it was, it took watching it (via iTunes) in three separate chunks to get to roundabout the halfway point.

If you thought Suicide Squad couldn’t get any worse, you were wrong.… Expand

There's plenty of happy and mean-spirited fun in this lively movie, even though the assemblage of the "Birds" doesn't happen til the final scenes. Shortly after they released an extra cut of that same film giving more scenes to the character who stole the attention of the audiences: Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.
I assume that at some point some executive at Warner said: ''We should get her a film for herself and as a bonus we get our own Deadpool''.
I really think that's how they started this disaster.

For me Birds of Prey is the worst DC film so far, not only for how cheap it looks but for the simplicity of its execution and its devastating lack of imagination.
The interactions are laughable, there's no chemistry between the girls and the cherry on the top of this disaster cake is how they manage to waste one of Batman's best villains.

Let me make this clear and the title change in the US proves it: This is Margot Robbie's film and just her. She has really adopted the character and is the only real reason to see this film, but Robbie also makes clear that she needs better screenwriters and better directors to shine. We'll see if James Gunn manages to do her justice.

And just to put it out there I must comment this film demonstrates again the lack of a plan behind this shared universe because unless their plan is to go down this way, at the end of it all, Birds of Prey brings absolutely nothing for the future of this franchise.
Especially considering that what's behind it are Aquaman and Shazam and what comes next is Wonder Woman 1984 and just right after that one; The Batman, which is supposed to be an epic film for DC and Warner, so you kinda wonder what the hell they were doing here.… Expand

With that being said I pleasantly enjoyed the very subtle and understating feminist points I think if you want to make a female lead movie don't make a big deal about it just make a good movie and the positive response will follow.With that being said this movie proves that point actions speak louder than words. I think that the movie was very well paced and had very little to gripe about the couple of things I didn't care for was the big fight in the end was a little chaotic and left me wishing I could of seen more of it but i honestly think that has more to do wit the projectors at the movie theaters not really giving a great contrast with dark scenes. All that being said its absolutely worth a watch lots of fun and very little bad to say about it.… Expand

The performances from everyone besides Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor were decent. There wasn’t anything special about their performances but they did the best with what they had. Margot Robbie is fun as Harley Quinn. She knows how to make the character work and she is easily the best part of the film. Ewan McGregor is hilariously over the top. He always takes each role he has with as much energy as he possibly can and it was always entertaining to see him on screen. The worst part though is that Margot Robbie is the only character who is developed. Everyone else is just there. They have little to no characterization which reduces their impact to the events of the film. Ewan McGregor’s character is evil just to be evil. We don’t get a lot of information about why he is evil, he just is. Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s character has the second most amount of backstory but it feels forced plus I didn’t really care that much about any of the supporting characters. An ongoing problem I have been noticing with the films I have seen this year is their respective scripts. Out of the three films I have seen, this has the “best” script but it was still pretty weak. Some of the lines of dialogue are very forced and the jokes are inserted in the same forced way. I felt only a small handful of jokes, such as the Harley voted for Bernie joke, were funny while all the others felt forced or just weren’t that funny to me. The film’s visuals were engaging and interesting. The presentation of the film never felt bland to me. It was always colorful and appeasing. The action is mostly well done. The police station action sequence is pretty awesome but it gets interrupted halfway through by narration which goes into another flashback sequence for about 20-30 minutes. That annoyed me because I was enjoying this badass action sequence and it got interrupted. The film does this at certain points and it can get confusing but I eventually got used to it. Overall, Birds of Prey is a dumb fun comic book movie with fun action and good performances from Ewan McGregor and Margot Robbie but the script and limited to no characterization take away from the experience.… Expand

"Birds of Prey" é visualmente lindo, tem um story telling diferenciado, mas falha em alguns aspectos importantes na trama. Quanto a emancipação retratada, eu acredito que ela seria mais eficaz se não fosse tão obvia. Fica tudo muito gratuito e tu não consegue levar a serio nem por um momento - não que fosse para ser levado, mas este não é muito bem um assunto sem importância, visto que é muito discutido e está no titulo do filme. O figurino está fenomenal, as coreografias nas lutas são legais, mas sinto que poderia ter algo a mais. Os inimigos não apresentam o menor risco, sendo assim, porque não usar da criatividade? - até existe em poucos momentos.
A fotografia acompanha bem as lutas e não as deixa confusas em momento algum. Inclusive, o audiovisual aqui está impecável. Essa paleta de cores num monitor/tv de alta qualidade é satisfatória demais. Devo dar destaque a cena de luta onde todas as "aves de rapina" estão juntas. Foi a mais legal do filme.

Quanto aos personagens, eu gosto da nova Harley - de forma geral; seu figurino e coreografia nas lutas me parece bem fiel, ao mesmo tempo que evoluiu naturalmente com o tempo. O vilão, interpretado por Ewan McGregor, não é muito carismático. Eu até me esforcei, pois gosto do ator, mas ele não brilha aqui. A personagem da Elizabeth Winstead me soou um pouco estranha. Talvez seja esse o proposito, mas vai saber.

"Birds of Prey" tenta algumas coisas novas e acerta numa boa porcentagem delas, se desvincula o máximo possível de Suicide Squad e sua imagem negativa, mas deixa aquele gostinho de "poderia ser mais".… Expand
