Ok the good Harley was great with some amusing action scenes. Boring, incoherent, pretentious and misandristic. Seriously if you reversed the genders here, you'd a have a film where 4 men are going around violently kicking the crap out of women. They were the only ok'ish things in the whole movie. This suffers from the same problems as the female Ghost Busters where all the male characters were either stupid, gullible, condescending or evil.
It's not even "go woke go broke", it's "go misandristic go broke".
Look even if that weren't they case... It's a really bad movie anyway, it's 10x worse than Suicide Squad.… Expand

With ‘entertainment’ like this infecting the industries mainstream, its goodbye world, hello emptiness. Mike LaSalle seems to be the only mainstream critic that remains able to tell it like it is - while others have sold their soul to fit into that empty hole – occupied by the lowest common denominators. If this miserable sludge gets into (and infects) too many heads, there will be many more needing to see a shrink before too long. This is far removed far removed from the classic version that never should've been used in the first place. The characters, Huntress, Canary and most infuriating Cassandra Cain were do not resemble their comic book counterparts both in appearance and in character. The idea of this film being called birds of prey without even Barbara Gordon(Oracle) is a crime. They should've just called this film Harley Quinn or the Gotham City Sirens (with Poison Ivy) becasue 90 percent of the film wasn't about the team.
All aside, the casting is decent(Margot Robbie can do no wrong as Harley Quinn), the usage of colour The use of colourswere great and I found some moments of entertainment through some of its action sequences hat mostly make no sense.However this film fails on lack of characterization, decent story, generic to boring and laughable villain(played greatly by Ewan Mcgregor),heesy acting from most of the cast, the apparent sexisim tone in this film and lack of motivation for the characters except fight the patriarchy. This was a laughable film that tries too hard to be like Deadpool. This movie was a dumpster fire. It is riddled with inconsistancies like magicaly appearing props and dissapearing characters/conflicts. It makes the characters into jarringly inconsistent crazy quilts - not in a good-crazy (joker) way but in a really poorly crafted (suicide squad) way. It forces Harley through a spaghetti press; shes a mass murdering psychopath but also a role model of the feminine independant from men. So she can kiIl some people with impunity but cant cross certain lines. She completely spares a police station by using non lethal force but switches back to bone breaking and murder on bikers. This could be cool if the charactrer was outlined and reinforced by this behavior but no good reason for it is given- which clarifies that the choices are being made for reasons outside the storyline and universe (for us, the viewers). Its not subtle. It even literally says the name of a real world politician she voted for. Harley Quinn (a mass murderer who abducts girls) votes for Bernie. Solid endorsement. You morons. To be clear: a good movie could be written about this character. . . This is just not it. Heres some better themes: stockholm syndrom, domestic violence, co dependency issues, Girl Boss Issues, dealing with physical inferiority, and the consumate fear in a super hero world - and evening the odds... All good feminist issues, all related to the character and consistent with the universe. .… Expand

Also annoing child sidekick, supporting characters are practically just wallpaper and harley isn't dark or "mad"...she just seems dumb and puerile...she act and look like a drunken version of Tank Girl (and I like Tank girl in her movie...not here).
Maybe very young vieviewers can find it entertaining if they watch it with friends just to make fun of the movie.
If you want to see some H. Queen just watch one of the Dc animated movie or her animated series. I liked Margot intepretation of Harley a lot more in Suicide squad (but that also was not a great movie).… Expand

Honestly,it says a lot about the the director, who had never taken on a big project before, and it shows. Even a simpleton like me could see what she was going for. ( even though she failed big time)
Tryin to be Guy Richie, making a female deadpool movie. Prob would’ve been better if you jus directed it with your own style instead of copy and pasting everything we’ve seen a billion times.
The writer of this movie is good. Loved some of the work she’s done ( bumblebee) but this is a terrible story with so many plot holes, you can tell she has no connection to the source material or any knowledge of who Harley Quinn is or what makes fans love her so much, what a waste.

Last but not least Margot Robbie is an amazing actress.having said that she must love the smell of her own farts because she takes up 99% of the screen time. It got joker the Oscar maybe it will work for me (eye roll).

Please don’t waste your time with this garbage and tell Hollywood that we are not as dumb as you think we are. Negative STARS!!!!!… Expand

It fails to invest you in Harley or any of its characters before throwing them into action set piece after action set piece, as is the typical failing of nearly any bad comic book movie. Sometimes, the pacing of such films partially save them from this lack of attachment. Unfortunately Harley Quinns's pacing is grinded to a halt and even rewinded once or twice by its time jumps. The film attempts to excuse this nonsensical mess it makes as a result of scatter-brained Harley narrating the story. Although tying the structure of a film to an unreliable narrator's mental instability is a concept I like in theory (and have liked in films like Memento and Synechdoche, New York), the characters in Birds of Prey lack the substance to pull it off. Quick-fire complaints time. The action was creative but marred by slowmo and fastmo. A pop-filled soundtrack cannot replace the identity a composed score brings to a film. Ewan McGregor's hilarious performance was marred by a needless pervy, Joffrey wannabe scene. The costume designer spent so much time making Harley's costumes flawless that every other character's costumes suffered. Birds of Prey shows a lot of promise for what could have been. It is definitely a step up from Suicide Squad, but not a big one. It's doing well in the box office so we may get another one. Hopefully the next iteration has better direction. Costuming is not something I usually mention in my reviews. This film warrants it. The costume designers seem to have spent so much time focusing on Harley that they nearly forgot about every other character. Why was Huntress wearing a wonky chain across her body? I can tell you it's not from the comics. Why was Detective Montoya wearing a t-shirt that said "I shaved my balls for this" for half the film? For one lame joke from the captain? Why does Black Mask's mask look so cheap? There are character excuses for all of these things. Huntress is trying to be an edgelord. Montoya is a drunk. Black Mask is a super-villain wannabe. These excuses unfortunately don't make these costumes look any less bad.… Expand

I don't want to mock anyone with my review, so I'll be transparent and give some consideration here. This is exceptionally poor quality for 100 years of film. This is exceptionally poor quality for 100 years of film. It feels like Margot Robbie took the character a bit too far from who she is. If you're a fan of Harley in the comics(though she was created on Batman Animated Series) and like her in Suicide Squad - don't watch this. I can deal with feminism, (even the heavy stuff) after all it was men who created this character and men who appreciate her just like Wonder Woman. The problem lies in what seems to be Margot Robbie's ,"vision," for a female archtype anti-hero. This is just not the character to do it with. As we all know, Harley doesn't set out to be the ,"bad girl taking on bad guys." She becomes an excellent hero without the help of Suicide Squad, or reflection on the Joker. A true hero, and dare I say one of the greatest of all time. This film makes it about Harley having more than a series of moments where as an ordinary woman she was abused, rejected, and oppressed just because. It makes no sense, and the flashbacks should have been cut completely. The female heroes of this film are displayed counter to their origin and their comic literature. This is nothing more than a Novella or a Lifetime movie. I expect much better from Margot Robbie given her stellar performances so far and I respect her acting chops. The production in this film is so low bar, it feels like a high school musical with dirty closeups and unusual sexual exploitation followed up as ,"I shot you," and ,"no I shot you first," by children with a kung fu fetish. As a man, I generally enjoy a fantasy utilizing my favorite female leads with wild female characters. This gave me uncomfortable feelings for how Margot Robbie picks and chooses when to be sexy or when to project feminine superiority. Given a society with multiple genders being recognized, where was the inclusivity as well? There's some gay representation but no trans, queer, or queer racial. From a right wing standpoint, this movie is offensive. From a left wing standpoint, this movie is difficult to watch, boring, misogynistic and exploitative given the #metoo and makes no attempt to rectify those shortcomings. If I was a woman and watched this, I would be offended. This is not just cringe despite what others have said. I've seen far worse. But this is a terrible way to turn the lights off. What is this film about? Broken white girl rescue operation? I even liked Suicide Squad and was excited to see a Harley film. This is not what I was hoping for from such a beloved example of perseverance. A beloved character that men celebrate just as much as Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman has only recently become a feminist(for some as most women disagree with her character) project and has always been coveted by men as a true hero. To see yet another DC character just misused and given away to an actor without oversight is a pity. I feel the cast leaned too hard on the idea of being badass chicks instead of badass heroes with a soul and a purpose. Redemption. This is just an awful film. Truly awful.… Expand

I know I’m not the target audience and it was probably a foregone conclusion that I wouldn’t like it all that much, but for a film to be so awful it’s unwatchable, that’s quite rare.

I think it was the point where Harley had drunk herself into a stupor, and was therefore at the mercy of the creep in the alleyway, that I realised I’d had enough. That and Ewen McGregor (was he just slumming it for the pay cheque?).

Maybe the end was spectacular and if I’d held on the movie would have redeemed itself. But I just couldn’t bear it. As it was, it took watching it (via iTunes) in three separate chunks to get to roundabout the halfway point.

If you thought Suicide Squad couldn’t get any worse, you were wrong.… Expand

I would give it a 3/10 because it's a bad movie, but because of the feminist agenda and because of the fact that they BUTCHERED the original characters and the universe from which they came from, this "movie" deserves a 1/10 I'd rather watch "the last jedi" rather than watch this movie again… Expand

I assume that at some point some executive at Warner said: ''We should get her a film for herself and as a bonus we get our own Deadpool''.
I really think that's how they started this disaster.

For me Birds of Prey is the worst DC film so far, not only for how cheap it looks but for the simplicity of its execution and its devastating lack of imagination.
The interactions are laughable, there's no chemistry between the girls and the cherry on the top of this disaster cake is how they manage to waste one of Batman's best villains.

Let me make this clear and the title change in the US proves it: This is Margot Robbie's film and just her. She has really adopted the character and is the only real reason to see this film, but Robbie also makes clear that she needs better screenwriters and better directors to shine. We'll see if James Gunn manages to do her justice.

And just to put it out there I must comment this film demonstrates again the lack of a plan behind this shared universe because unless their plan is to go down this way, at the end of it all, Birds of Prey brings absolutely nothing for the future of this franchise.
Especially considering that what's behind it are Aquaman and Shazam and what comes next is Wonder Woman 1984 and just right after that one; The Batman, which is supposed to be an epic film for DC and Warner, so you kinda wonder what the hell they were doing here.… Expand

The director and screenwriter will remain nameless, in the hope that they can put this unfortunate effort behind them and go on to use their obvious skills to make a film that’s interesting and important at some point in the future. “Birds of Prey” is simply a bad idea poorly executed. For some reason, the creative team has confused chaos with character development. And they seem to believe that, by embracing anarchy, they are relieved of any obligation to develop a coherent story. It doesn’t work for the Safdie Brothers (that’s right, “Uncut Gems”) and it sure doesn’t work here. Filling any film with manic activity eventually gets tiresome when it’s all just totally random.

In case you care, Harley (Margot Robbie) gets into conflict with supervillain Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor), who tends to cut the faces off people who annoy him. In order to get back into Roman’s good graces, since she no longer has the protection of Joker, she must find and deliver to Roman a gigantic diamond. Blah, blah, blah.

The actors here really aren’t to blame. Robbie (so deserving of Oscar consideration for “I, Tonya” and this year’s “Bombshell”) has committed fully to the irrational exuberance of her character. Regrettably, she was apparently contractually committed to doing incessant voiceovers in an accent that made me yearn to stab my eardrums with sharp pencils. Her accent, and the content she is required to deliver, make the voiceovers in “Deadpool” seem Shakespearean. In “Deadpool,” there’s at least an amusing tone of self-deprecation. But then, self-deprecation and irony require self-awareness and this film has none.

Given the similar source material, it’s not surprising that “Birds of Prey” trades in the same nihilism as this year’s “Joker.” But unlike “Joker,” this film offers no broader social commentary, no larger point.

One strong element of the film is its approach to the violence that appears on the screen in nearly non-stop fashion. Using a series of continuous, slow-motion long shots, the creative team has given the violence an almost balletic appearance (in the Hong Kong style of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).

The most unpardonable aspect of this film is its apparent belief that if it says “girl power” often enough or even hints at “female empowerment,” all sins will be forgiven. This is a film written, directed and starring women. But that doesn’t make it creative, interesting or worthwhile. In fact, at key points, the women demonstrate some startlingly male traits – self-absorption, an enthusiasm for irrational violence and, worst, a capacity to perceive other women as friends only when it’s convenient. All of this leaves any gender themes perched atop a very rickety thematic structure that threatens to topple under its own weight at any minute.… Expand

The Movie isn't great. I really does push on the brand of Harley Queen to Much. They had a sort of good thing going with suicide squad but this just pushes the limits to far. It's great that we have more women as strong protagonists, but it just could have been done a lot better. If we look at movies and TV-shows with great female protagonists like Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson) in Hidden Figures, Ciri (Freya Allan) in The Witcher or Hermione Granger (Emma watson) in Harry Potter they really played their roles well and they don't just push it for recognition or awards; but i seems like they played their roles not expecting awards or applause; it just seems more natural. I can not say the same about this movie though, it really has become the standard Hollywood sellout; "They've got a got gig out and just sell out for max profit.

Unless you really need to watch it; please stay away.… Expand

I have been impressed by how easy it is to predict what is coming. The script doesn’t have any good content and could be written by a 15 year old feminist girl
