But it is still very good and one of their best easily since the Renaissance. It did feel a little rushed at times and felt like it tried to do a little too much in the storytelling, as a result some ideas that were introduced like the science-is-good message gets lost. If it slowed down and explored a little less areas it would have improved things. The villain felt underdeveloped and his reveal came over as very obvious and forced as well.

However, the animation is outstanding with lots of rich colours and textures, backgrounds that are incredibly detailed and sweet(but not in a cloying way) character designs. One of the best-looking recent Disney films definitely. The catchy and upbeat yet atmospheric and emotion-filled soundtrack and smart script are other things to like, as are the brisk(when not rushed) pacing and rousing if not exactly inventive action. While the story is not flawless, on the most part it's still a winner. Whatever originality it may lack, it more than compensates for that with fun and heart. There are plenty of funny moments(i.e. Stan Lee), and of the laugh-out-loud witty kind and even better is the emotional impact Big Hero 6 has. The brother-brother relationship is handled very affectingly, like between Anna and Elsa in Frozen it was Disney trying to explore a different kind of relationship than they did before and it succeeds in that respect.

Sure Big Hero 6 sometimes takes a dark tone but not in a heavy or inappropriate way, there's no reason why anybody should be disturbed by that. The characters are not the most developed ones there ever were and as said more should have been done with the villain, but they're still engaging. Hiro is a very flawed but still likable main protagonist and his relationship between brother Tadashi is beautifully done. The most memorable character for me though was Baymax, he has to be one of Disney's most adorable characters, along with Maximus(Tangled) and Sven(Frozen) he has one of their cutest since the Renaissance. As well as being beautifully designed he displays a lot of laughs and a wide range of emotions, literally the film's heart and soul. The voice work from all(I just wish that James Cromwell had more to do) is very good, with particular mention going to Scott Adsit and his voice is a good match with Ryan Potter's deeply felt Hiro. All in all, not one of Disney's best but one of their better ones of the past 15 years. Haven't seen all the Best Animated Feature nominees but while this viewer did prefer How to Train Your Dragon 2 and the un-nominated Lego Movie they still felt that Big Hero 6 was still a good enough film to merit an Oscar nomination. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Its story is set in a fictional city that mixes a lot of Californian and Japanese environments, and revolves around the theme of high technology, robotics and, also, superheroes. Granted, none of this is original... over the last ten to fifteen years, there have been hundreds of films that have tackled these themes, but that doesn't detract from this animated production's merit.

The screenplay focuses on the figure of Hiro Hamada, a young teenager with a brilliant mind and enormous ability for science and technology. He makes his own robots to illegal fights until his brother, Tadashi, shows him the advanced laboratory where he studies, which awakens his desire to work there. For that, Hiro has to convince the director, Professor Robert Callaghan, thus inventing a series of micro-robots that fascinate everyone and everything with what they seem to allow. However, shortly after, the laboratory is mysteriously destroyed by a fire where Callaghan and Tadashi die, leaving Hiro completely aimless... until he finds Baymax, a prototype of a robot nurse that his brother used to work on.

Produced by Disney Studios, this film manages to bring the best of both worlds: on the one hand, it is a modern film, with very appealing themes for a new generation of children and young people, for whom technology is something fascinating, and on the other hand, it manages to match the studio's classics and live up to them, due to the visual beauty, the meticulous work and the ability to approach and work with complex themes, such as the loss of a dear family member or the desire for revenge.

Made with modern technological resources and massive doses of CGI, the film is a visual and graphic spectacle, providing us with excellent colors, good lighting, sharp drawings and a pleasant dose of realism. The film has almost no songs and the soundtrack is not really a strong point of the film, but the visual and narrative qualities make up for it, even if we take into account some specific weaknesses. In addition to all this, the film has very well conceived and developed characters, with personality and some joke, in addition to having a competent voice cast where we have names like Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit and James Cromwell.

I missed this movie when it was in the cinema and later on TV. Over the years I heard a lot of my friends and colleagues saying that this is a hidden gem and so I finally watched it. After watching it I agree that this is a really good animated movie with depth, lovable characters and relatable themes. The story follows the 14 year old Hiro Hamada (Hero?) who is a genius in robotics and already passed high school but now spends his time a bit aimlessly competing in robot fights. When he is saved by his older brother Tadashi from trouble he tries to give him a goal by taking him to his research lab where he shows him the robotics program, the inflatable robot Baymax he created and he meets Tadashi’s amazing group of friends. This inspires him to give all for his schools showcase. However there will be an event that changes everything. Here I will stop with this set up. The story impressed me as Hiro’s character development, struggles and heroes journey are excellent. The themes are relatable and the motives of the characters are fully understandable and genuine (I am again vague to avoid spoilers). Then there is the awesome world they create. The story takes place in the city of San Fransokyo which is a mixture of San Francisco and Tokyo. It is a beautiful mixture and visually impressing. It has a unique style and I read that they put a lot and I mean a whole lot of effort into the setting. Then there is the technology. It is our world but marvelous technologies are in the development or prior to be released for everyone. Now to the next strength of the movie the characters. Hiro voiced by Ryan Potter is an excellent protagonist. He is relatable to the viewer in many ways and like I said his struggles, development and journey is as enjoyable as immersive. Tadashi voiced by Daniel Henney is a role model for the older brother. He is caring and also mixture of father figure, friend and mentor for Hiro. Then there is the colorful cast of Tadashis’s and Hiro’s friends with Go Go (Jamie Chung), Fred (T. J. Miller), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez), Wasabi (Damon Wayans) and Baymax (Scott Adsit). Those are truly great and enhance the movie. Other than those I will praise Rober Callaghan (James Cromwell) and Cass (Maya Rudolph). A really good cast. Also special praise for a familiar face you may recognizes (You will know it;-). Presentation wise the movie is truly remarkable. It has a unique style atop on being visually impressive. Like I already said they put a lot of hard work, hearth and soul into creating this world. This you can see in all scenes and locations. I think like San Fransokyo the style is alos a beautiful mixture of western and anime style. It was so good looking that I want to visit this city for sight seeing. The soundtrack is probably really good but not entirely my cup of tea. Something can be great but not for your taste at the same time. This can be quite common in music, books, movies or food to name a few examples. Finally there are the themes and there is a lot to discus with friends. Be it philosophical, moral or technological there is something that can or will grab your attention. Overall this was a really good experience. It slightly misses to be an all time masterpiece for me but does so many things right that I will give a bonus point to get a 10/10 rating. Expand

By the time I learnt it doesn't have any prequels the movie was long goneWhen I was in 10th class and this movie was announced, I had no intention of seeing it, because I haven't seen the last 5 movies. That's how much I lived under a rock. By the time I learnt it doesn't have any prequels the movie was long gone from the theatres. So I finally watched the movie when it came on TV and damn this was a movie I'd have loved to see! Later on I got to know this is based on the Marvel comics, so technically this is the first Marvel movie I have ever watched (because I live under a rock, remember?).

The reason why I liked Big Hero 6 so much is because of Hiro Hamada. I have always been interested in robotics and have participated in a robot combat competition myself. Other than that I was preparing for JEE so I was as such very much into science. So right off the bat we begin from a relatable protagonist. Tadashi was also a very nicely made character. When both Hiro and Tadashi go to his college my focus was on how nicely they both talk. It actually feels like they are physically there, as Hiro looks around and Tadashi gives remarks as he gives Hiro a tour. When he shows Baymax to Hiro the part where Hiro thinks he just made a duct tape shows how natural their behaviour was. The other characters were also very interesting, although I don't remember their names anymore since I watched it so long ago.

The movie has all kinds of emotions that make it appealing to the audience. It will make one laugh, cry, angry, excited, scared and awestruck. The heroes, villains, story, plot twist, emotional conflicts and even the little details scattered throughout the movie have all been placed very well. Just watching the hero-villain fights didn't let me be seated. Baymax is so cute. The Stan Lee cameo in the end was also unique.

Overall I'd say the message of this movie is the most important aspect about this movie. A hero, who has lost his brother who was his only family and has gone into depression, is brought back to high hopes with the souvenir that his brother left him. His brother's friends were there to help him, his step-mother was supportive of him and overall everyone around him was always wanting the best for him. This is what finally allowed him to be the superhero. His emotional conflicts, whether he should entirely act on his feelings or take a calm and collected approach, whether he should kill someone or never harm a person, whether he should use his powers alone or assemble a team, all of this was in his hands. He did everything he hoped will make his brother proud.

I enjoyed this movie so much that later on I showed it to my sister and recommended to all the children I met. This is what a movie should be like. It has a good story, memorable people, character development, conflicts, emotions - everything needed to make a good story. These are the most grounded heroes I have seen in any animated movie. I really hope it gets a sequel. I can't have enough of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

It's entertaining, heartwarming, exciting and funny, yet feels formulaic and bland at many points. The main characters are charismatic (Baymax is so cute), Hiro and Baymax develop a good chemistry and there's a heartbreaking reason behind it, but that's pretty much it. I can't say the animation is wonderful, which, sure the visual effects and the character animation are nice, but nothing too impressive or visually creative. Besides Hiro and Baymax all the other characters feel pretty much one-note, the villain is incredibly boring and once it's revealed who's behind that mask, that character starts to be a completely different character, with a solid motivation but with a plan that makes no sense. The superhero stuff is dull, generic and predictable and they never feel like a team, we never see a creative use of their powers or anything, that's why the actions scenes, at their core are reaaaaally bland. It has some emotional moments that actually work pretty well, but overall, don't save this movie to have some major flaws. Oh, and TJ Miller is in this movie, even when just voicing a character makes me want to punch him in the face, his character and line delivery is not funny and really annoying...Seriously, why do they keep casting this man in comedic roles!? Overall it's not a terrible movie but there's no denying that it's far from being a great movie, not even among the best of 2014 as that was a year of soooo many good animated movies (HTTYD 2, The Lego Movie, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, Song of the Sea, and I can go on) and it's borderline infurating that this took the Oscar when literally any other of the nominees were far better movies in every aspect. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Big Hero 6 is visually stunning, funny, and heartwarming.

After Disney's groundbreaking success of Frozen comes Big Hero 6 to once again captivate the attention of animation lovers and audiences alike. Even though Big Hero 6 provides a decent family-friendly storytelling that is not that grandeur or of a heft in narrative, still it manages to provide a satisfying and entertaining experience with it's wonderfully animated characters, touching sentimental moments, and nice soundtrack, especially the song "Immortals" from Fall Out Boy that adds excitement to a specific segment in the movie.

Baymax's design and characterization deserves credit. As a cute, huggable, and a rather naive medical robot in the story, it succeeds in luring audiences to love him and provides merchandising profit as a marketable product for the companies that produces this movie. Big Hero 6 distributes a huge heart and admirable relationships between the three main characters of the movie - Hiro, Baymax, and Tadashi. Their voice casts have done a splendid job notably Baymax. The other characters in the Big Hero 6 team are uniquely designed but lacks flavor on their characterization within the film.

Big Hero 6 also tends to be somewhat predictable, especially on the revelation of the villain. The villain is quite a lackluster character but still forms a huge part of something quite touching and unexpected in the ending segment of the film that deserves a very important attention from the viewers; don't dare to miss it.

Hiro's tale of lost and grief over his brother's demise as well as Baymax's is crafted realistically and shows to viewers that it haunts Hiro sorrowfully, and yields sincere emotional turmoil on those segments in the movie that is equally pleasing and heartwarming.

Overall, Big Hero 6 releases us from a (Disney product) "Frozen" mania experiences on year 2013, especially the addictive song Let It Go, because 2014's Big Hero 6 is an enjoyable animated flick filled with humor, heart, and an admirable Baymax character.

A very worthy Oscar nominee.

Lower your expectations. By a lot.

Starts off strong. Thought it would be a thoughtful, funny and charming movie. The premise is pretty good and had potential to be well rounded and interesting for all ages. However, everything turns out to be very predictable. The moral of the story is diluted to a bland catch phrase. There are many characters to develop and they turn out painfully one dimensional. Even the main character isn't really fleshed out because the movie turns into "pew pew" action for far too long in an unimpressive manner, making the story pretty generic.

If you want cheap movie with a few laughs that you'll forget about a week later, this is it. I expected much better from all the positive reviews and no the score isn't low because my expectations were high, the movie is just nothing special.

Big Hero 6 is undeservedly praised. The movie is a decent effort but with a weak emotional core that attempts to affect you but cannot. The movie thinks it's much much funnier than it actually is.

The intentions of the writers might not have been to link to K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle, but a Japanese controlled San Francisco is bound to invite that comparison. Which gives the film a horrendous back story that it never intended, but still infiltrates the viewers mind. Could they not have kept them in Japan like in the comics? That said the animation team should be patting themselves on the back, this is a masterclass in human emotion and natural movements which most animated films still have yet to get right two years later. Which if one were to view solely for the animation then yes it was deserving of its Oscar. However if we take the writing into account, then this is a cliché within a cliché that leads to a point where the villain gets rewarded for his endeavours, while the good guys might save the day, they are the one's who ultimately lost more. The work was predictable as predictable gets and one could see everything before it happened, so if you are a future animation student watch and enjoy, if you are anyone else, then it is average at best.

"Wreck-It Ralph" proved that you can make a film centered around video games and make it amazing, while "Frozen" became a worldwide cultural phenomenon for a number of reasons. Now we have "Big Hero 6," which shows us that, in an industry dominated by superhero films from Marvel and DC, animated superhero films can succeed in theaters. "Big Hero 6" is beautifully-animated, well-written, action-packed, hilarious, heartwarming, and it features some tremendous and memorable characters. An illegal sport that his brother didn't support although Hiro was pretty good at he saw more in Hiro's inteligence so Tadashi takes him to his school and orginal Hiro as a typical teenager at the age of 14 doesn't like the idea he thinks the school is for nerds but when he arrives he is completely blown away by the technology and students who go there much like how I was. The cast-Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred are all really different people who have an interests in technology Go Go is a bit more pessimistic and say emo she has a interest in speed. Wasabi is interested in science and takes it more seriously he has an interests in lasers, energy and plasma. Honey Lemon is a very friendly and tall girl who likes color and materials that can freeze solid into color and Fred well he's just Fred he likes comics, fictional fire-breathing animals and superhero stories. Than they have a professor Callaghan who is sought to be smart and cunning and shares a rivalry with his brother Krei they also meet Baymax later in the story when Hiro accidentally summons him and leads him on a journey these characters interact with each other in different ways some good some are bad others are falsely-accused everything is going well until Hiro's brother Tadashi dies in an unexpected incident after a tech show cast. Than Hiro goes on the hunt for the suspect with his newly acquired friends they will fight many battles together and the movie does have some positive messages and is one of the most inspiring and greatest movies I have ever watched. The animation looks good to me and little details like the way Wasabi cuts a hole in a wall and they way the microbots move together in a scary fashion sure is bound to give to some dramatic as well as humorous situations that occur in the movie. The voice acting is so well done it feels like I am watching an actual conversation between unlikely or completely likely friends as well as they plot which made sense and gave way to an epic struggle of good vs evil. It is one of the best films I have ever watched and with the int resting lore and characters with their amazing gear created for their liking I am ready for a sequel as to me this series seems to good to be a one-hit wonder and I certainly hope it will stick to it's original comics. They said so themselves. This movie doesn't try to be original, it is trying to capture the essence of the traditional "hero" story and frame it for a modern audience. It is trying to be family friendly and entertain the whole family with varied cast of characters that should give everyone someone to relate to... while poking some fun at itself and the hero genre.
It succeeded. This an entertaining movie with beautiful 3D visuals for everyone. Don't try to take it serious, just enjoy it. It is not often that I rewatch but this one is just so much fun.

The beautifully made animation was the best of any animation seen so far. Spectators of the film wouldn’t suspect a fourteen year old boy genius to get into college at such a young age; the boy had proved to show great intelligence throughout the movie. Many people fear the development of A.I. and this movie puts that thought into a different perspective. MIT’s article on A.I. titled “Our Fear of Artificial Intelligence” reflects people’s fear of A.I. which is the opposite of what “Big Hero 6” stands for. They say that “A true A.I. might ruin the world- but that assumes that it is even possible” (Ford). This article not only explores the dangers of A.I., but it also explores the benefits. One of the benefits could be that “A benevolent superintelligence might analyze the human genetic code at great speed and unlock the secret to eternal youth. At the very least, it might know how to fix your back” (Ford). This makes Big Hero a timely film due to the fact that it explores the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence at a much more innocent level, than what could happen if someone were to go too far with A.I. Overall our group does endorse the message Big Hero 6 brings up following the lines of Artificial Intelligence, however it still needs to be kept in mind that Artificial Intelligence is dangerous. This is all very fast moving, even for a kid's film and whilst it is admirably decently animated, Big Hero 6 doesn't create too much depth as to what it is trying to achieve. A generator of sympathy, meaning the bad guy is essentially non threatening at all. It's also a shame that genuinely quirky and interesting characters like Wasabi and Freddie didn't get a whole opportunity to explore their potential as much as they should've, giving warm and relieving addition to their futuristic suits. This being said, Big Hero 6 is solid to entertain, the chemistry between Baymax and Hiro is humble and charming and will please as a family movie. Just don't expect anything too meaningful, it often gets too caught up in sad moments that it forgets the environment it is set in isn't that harmful at all. Expand

They are all masterpieces, and Big Hero 6 is the next big thing, and you know why? It's because Disney incorporated a story from another universe, Marvel, that's right, Big Hero 6 came from Marvel, and that is one of the reasons that makes this film great. The characters make up for the amazing acting and the real emotions coming from them, the animation is so alive and so bright even when the picture is very dark. But the real reason that this film is the next big Disney masterpiece? It's the inspirational messages that the film presents, and in this film the message falls under the lines of vengeance does not become received by revenge, and learning to let go is a hard thing but to some people, it a natural instinct, and wherever you go, take some friends with you, because you could be something bigger and stronger when you have help, sure in the end some people don't make it but that right there is the message, staying strong in the face of challenges, that's what makes Big Hero 6 a masterpiece. It seems that many people liked the film because they saw it as an original idea, I do not know but for me The Lego Movie is a great original idea, but this not. Bone is not bad, the only thing I am against is that Disney continues to use the cliche to Kill the parents of the protagonist and the character you loved you so much, it's something that we have seen in many Disney movies and I still do not understand why still do, maybe is its a formula of making movies or maybe is a betrayal of the studio, do not know. If they wanted to kill as Tadashi do it but at least let their parents are alive, not make them disappear from the film and say they are dead without explaining how they died. I also found it absurd that the reason for why is Callaghan the bad guy and the Baymax sacrifice, i know many people cry but I'm sorry, I'm think it's really silly and absurd, but the film is really bad? no, it could have been better? probably yes. There are many things that they liked me the film, I like animation, the characters, the comedy, the action scenes, the city San Fransokyo, the tecnology, the friendly relationship of Hiro and Baymax and the message. I just do like Minions as if it werent these 2 problems the film could have been better. In my opinion, Big Hero 6 is entertaining, Not the best of the year but is entertaining. It is yet another example of how an obscure comic can be transformed into a really good movie. Baymax was a really good character and probably one of the most adorable robots in film. Hiro was a good character too because he was pretty complex. One of my favourite scenes was the one where Baymax is low on battery and he starts acting all drunk (but I feel they missed an opportunity to have him start singing "Daisy Bell" like HAL from "2001:a space odyssey") it's a very good movie, highly recommended to both superhero fans and Disney fans. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this film backed by the excitement and hype during its initial release.

This film makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. At what point does the kindly, elderly inventor of robotics (and creator of the laws of robotics) become a mass murderer, attacking children with robots?!

The comedy in this film is bordering on non-existent, barely raising an eyebrow or corner of the mouth. I think the screenwriter(s) wrote this in a drunken afternoon brainstorming session.

If I had a choice, I would have stayed in the robot fighting league, with my unbeatable robot -- raking in the cash, instead of turning a kindly inflatable medical robot into areinforced unstoppable death machine.

There are more plot loopholes here than swiss cheese, and even leaving all my expectations at the door, I was disappointed so much in every conceivable way, in every aspect of this movie, I find it impossible to understand the ratings this film has received.

The theme tune was also the stupidest and most tuneless piece of junk I have ever heard. If you listen to the lyrics (not an easy task) they make about as much sense as the storyline. "we could be immortals, immortals. Just not for long, for long". Fall Out Boy, buy a Thesaurus !!!

Do yourself a favour and avoid this steaming pile of robotic disappointment.

This movie was completely amazing. Do not listen to anybody who tells you about plot holes and clichés, they are way too focused on looking for mistakes than just relaxing and enjoying the movie. And what a movie it was. If you haven't seen it, I strongly advise you to watch it. RIGHT NOW. The most phenomenal movie I have ever had the joy to witness. Here are a few reasons why:
The plot. The plot was touching, in some places amusing, exciting, gripping and perfectly sweet.
The characters. The side characters, although not as good as the main ones, where awesome as well. Gogo was my favourite, sassy and adventurous, but Honey, Wasabi and Fred were good too- I loved Wasabi's scream in one part of the movie
The emotions- you will feel so many emotions in this movie. You will feel amazed, delighted, scared, excited, happy and sad. It's a perfect blend. I was gasping with shock and fear one minute, crying my eyes out the next, then smiling, then gripping my seat in excitement.
Hiro Hamada- I love this character beyond belief. Baymax gets the most attention, but Hiro is sweet, cute, funny, intelligent, slightly cocky, and just... ah. I love him and have about twenty pictures of him on my phone. He looks adorable, with that gorgeous messy black hair and those big brown eyes and that cheeky, cute face, but underneath he is extremely brave, and very intelligent; he's a genius, but doesn't seem to realise it. He manages to build superhero costumes and powers for all his friends, and never brags or shows off about it. You will fall in love with Hiro within minutes. At the start, when he says "Hiro... Hiro Hamada", he has the sweetest, shyest way of saying it. Love him to pieces.
I've watched the movie about seven times- last week I watched it every single day. In never gets boring; in fact, it gets more exciting! I strongly advise you not to blink because you don't want to miss a second of it :D Also there's no real point in getting popcorn or anything; once I had a can of lemondade when I was watching it. I sipped from the can in the first couple of minutes, then forget all about it because the movie was so... so.... so spectacular..
Please watch this film, it's perfect and beautiful, by far the best movie I have ever seen in my life!

Before watching this film: I'm not aware of the source material for this film.

Premise: A brilliant young inventor assembled a robot and a group of friends into heroes to go against the person who had stolen one of his invention and killed his brother.

Pros: 1. It's a heartwarming story about a nurse/doctor robot that would do anything to keep his master safe. Made by the people at Walt Disney Studios (actually people from Pixar Studios).

Cons: 1. Could have been great if it had not looked like a lazy rip off of The Incredibles by the same Pixar people who made The Incredibles.

More: If Jobs was around, he would not have allowed this to be made or if he had come aboard after the film had been made, he would have demanded major re-animations or just canning of the whole film.

Score: 3/5 (no half scores). Watch it on TV only.

On paper Big Hero 6 may seem like an Iron Giant or Terminator: 2 Judgement Day ripoff and while there are similarities and clichés throughout the film the main characters their relationship with each other along with the story are well realized in a way that makes it easy to overlook those details. Big Hero 6 is a great film that provides Marvel fans, Disney fans, and movie fans in general with a great experience rivaling that of a Pixar film. The supporting characters could use some development but with any luck this film will get a sequel that will explore them even more. Until then I will continue to watch this film as I eagerly await the next Disney film as this studio has regained the magic they had in the 90s. Hopefully Pixar can pick up the slack with Inside Out but regardless its glad to know there is animation studio on top of their game again! There is a short at the beginning of the film called Feast its not the best short ever made lacking the awe of Paperman but it is charming. Just realized this year there are three animated films that I loved, which makes this one of the best years for animation ever. Expand

If anything I really am not sure how to feel about this movie. But, I do know I enjoyed it.

Animation and visuals are just gorgeous. San Fransokyo is just breathtaking and I really wish they could have shown more of it. Near flawless design. Character models are also very good , but rhe pixar-anime kinda hybrid style I felt could have been utilized better. A shame as there was such massive potential for creativity.

Sound, music and voice acting all top notch. Nice that many of the voice actors weren't huge Hollywood names, kept the characters grounded in BH6 world.

Plot and writing is perhaps were I thought the movie suffered a little. While there is plenty of development for the leading characters, I did feel that there was far too little development for the supporting characters, who clearly are important enough to warrant it. The story is a bit cliche and has been done many times before, making it very predictable.

Overall:
Big Hero 6 is one of the few times where I would say it clearly needed another +30 minutes of screen time, just to add some much needed depth to the rest of the cast. However, despite my gripes, I still really, really enjoyed this movie.

This film is very beautifully animated and has a very entertaining story surrounding. I like how this film felt kind of like a mesh between Marvel and Disney films and it worked remarkably well. I love the whole city, San Fransokyo, since it combines both San Francisco with Tokyo; it worked as a very cool environment for the film. The characters were a fun bunch, I especially liked Baymax, he was very funny and he is one of the biggest reasons why this film is excellent. The whole group of scientists, that befriend Hiro, is also a cool group of people. Some of them fall under a few cliches but they are still fun to be around (their whole "lab" room was also cool, I liked the inventions they were creating). The story is pretty cool even if it was a bit predictable at times; seriously, don't have your expectations too high for the movie's villain. Despite, some minor problems, this film has a great story, there are even some pretty emotional scenes in this film I must say. This film is great and probably one of Disney's best films in a while. I also wan't to congratulate this film on winning the Oscar for Best Animated Film of 2014, even though I kinda liked The Lego Movie and How to Train Your Dragon 2 a bit better (sorry). Expand

The great film, animation is good, the story is cool and different, is not that cliche that has in some films from Disney, the first I found a little weak, but then the film tip far more engaging.

They have been on a winning streak these recent years and are currently in their new "Renaissance era".

'Big Hero 6', unlike most Disney films which are usually based on fairy-tales, is actually based, or loosely based on a Marvel comic book of the same name. This movie looks like a combination of two Brad Bird classics...'The Iron Giant' (1999) and 'The Incredibles' (2004), so it looks fun. It tells the story of a young, teenage boy named Hiro and his relationship with his older brother named Tadashi. An event occurs somewhere in the lab that Tadashi studies at and Hiro is left with his older brother's most successful creation. A balloon robot named Baymax.

Hiro is angry about his older brother's death and vows revenge on whoever it was that caused his death in the first place. Hiro plans to assemble a group of nerds (Tadashi's friends) and defeat the villain. The characters include; GoGo Tomago, Wasabi, Fred and Honey Lrmon. These, along with Hiro and Baymax will form the "Big Hero 6".

When it comes to unknown Marvel properties being adapted into film, I liked this film MUCH better than 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (2014). However, if I was to judge this as a Disney film, here's what I would say.

'Tangled' is a really fun "Disney Princess" movie, one that even guys like myself can enjoy, and that's thanks to the humor that Flynn Rider injects. 'Wreck-It Ralph' is a typical boys movie about video games, so of course I was going to like that movie, maybe I'm too biased towards it. And 'Frozen' had all that feel of a golden-age classic Disney film with some catchy, sing-along songs, and, like 'Tangled', the humor injected by Kristoff and his reindeer Sven (who reminded me of Han Solo and Chewbacca), that's something guys can enjoy.

I love Disney movies as they have played a huge part of my childhood and I love Marvel movies just as much as the next guy. 'Big Hero 6' is everything a guy could dream of, but I found the pacing of this movie to be a little slow and the characters, I don't feel, were as strongly written as Baymax was. Maybe this movie is like 'Aladdin' (1992), where the Genie (voiced by the late Robin Williams), kept you watching, but the other characters just keep the plot moving.

This movie does have emotional moments, and I'm no cynic, they are heartfelt. Children will enjoy this movie more than adults (because we always look for something innovative when it comes to film), and I don't think this movie deserved the Oscar win compared to the other nominees, it's not a bad movie, it's just a good movie that didn't need an Oscar.

Solid 8/10 from me, not as strong as 'Tangled', 'Wreck-It Ralph' or 'Frozen'...but it's another good Disney movie and I will watch it again in the future, (who knows, maybe I will like it more)...I will DEFINITELY want a Baymax toy though...

An entertaining first entry from the hybrid of Marvel and Disney with a lot of hearts and a lot of thrills albeit with a few flaws that is outshone by its many excellence.

The Jimmy Neutron meets the love child of WALL-E and EVE plot has moments of darkness kids films tend to avoid. Its also wonderfully animated and full of detail and touches that dazzle the eye, right up to the last act of good guys vs. bad guy battle that is a bit jarring and out of place.
Verdict: Watch

Yet another very welcome surprise this new product Disney.
After a film like "Frozen", which has virtually split audiences and critics (I am among those who have worshiped), maybe Disney will be able to put all of them agree with this great animated film based on a Marvel comic (unknown, perhaps, even the most avid readers).
"Big Hero 6" has all the ingredients that a good animated film should have, even the most trivial, from the typical disney comedy, the good feelings, but also a hidden ingredient, which can be enjoyed with the death of brother Hiro, not that death was never present in the Disney movie, as someone said, in my opinion, wrong (I could mention "Bambi," "The Lion King" and the underrated "Brother Bear"), but surely has never been so close to us, considering that the films I mentioned have starring animals.
Among other things, I found very interesting all the joint narrative following the death of Tadashi, with its dense network of intricate mysteries, including characterization of Hiro, who has been criticized for being too thin and empty, but that I think is in this dimension of empty his strong point. Sorry but I want it to be characterized as a poor boy who has lost everything?
Also good characterization of the secondary characters, from tender Baymax, who with his ingenuity by robots will reflect the same Hiro on the choices of his life, Hiro's nerd friends, which will help to catch the man with the mask which kabuki stole his microbot, the amiable aunt Cass.
Too bad for the fall style with the ultimate sacrifice of Baymax (for charity, definitely exciting and intense, but foregone) and the unveiling of 'identity of the man with the mask, under which lurked prof. Callaghan.
Although this choice is not entirely wrong, because they actually are the clues that gives the film to assume that there is him under the mask, but it is the reason why steals microbot and becomes a sort of super villain (I must admit, very well developed aesthetically) that fails to fully convince.
Probably, without these defects that, in spite of myself, I could not stand up, I would have considered "Big Hero 6" a masterpiece in every respect.
For the rest of the fun is guaranteed, the rhythm flows perfectly and the characters will entertain you but also warm your heart.

The realism in the animation, while not losing the charm associated with the genre, is stunning, the humanity and emotion in the film is superior to most live action films you'll see, and the story is fresh and entertaining. It combines humor with sadness with action to make for an exciting viewing experience. They also make you absolutely love Baymax, the big, white, puffy looking marsh mellow robot in all the advertisements. Overall, this movie is suitable for people of all ages, genders, cultural backgrounds, etc. Jump into San Fransokyo and get ready for a great film. Expand

To see anotherThere has been so many superhero movies lately that it seems like I don’t even recall which superhero movie that is not related to Marvel Cinematic Universe nor to DC Cinematic Universe nor to 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Universe. To see another superhero movie that consists of entirely new superheroes and that is not related to either of the three universes is quite refreshing, which is ironic since this movie is actually from an old Marvel comic series.

I liked how the Disney twist works with a Marvel property. I see that “Disney twist” a lot of times in previous Disney movies but for some reason it never fails to make me bored and it always remains fresh especially on based from a Marvel comic series.

I liked how diverse the main characters are in this movie. What I mean diverse does not mean “six white dudes, one white girl and one black dude”, I mean diverse as in “two Asians, one Brazilian woman, one black guy and one white guy (and one robot)”. This is the kind of diversity that isn’t the “shove down into your throats” kind and more of a natural kind of diversity. I want to see more movies with this pattern and not with the “six white dudes, one white girl and one black dude” kind of diversity.

I also liked how this movie dealt with death that it is almost traumatic and very life-like. If I were a kid, I would be traumatized about what happened. As a teenager, I am still traumatized what just happened in the movie because it was too real for me.

The character development of the main character Hiro is my favorite part of this movie as well as the growing bond between Hiro and the robot Baymax. Speaking of character development, my only main problem with this movie is that the other main characters do not have much character development. Although this movie is all about Hiro and Baymax, it’s not easy for me to be okay with the other main characters not being fully-developed because they’re very interesting that it’s quite a missed opportunity for more development. Well, at least they got their moments on screen so that’s fine.

Big Hero 6 is worthy an Oscar win in my opinion and that is thanks to the fresh new set of likable diverse superheros that is introduced to the general audience as well as an excellent superhero movie plot based from a Marvel comic series with a never-tiring twist from Disney which combinations worked very well.

Big Hero 6 won as Best Animated Feature Film, and the other films nominated in this category were The Tale of Princess Kaguya, The Boxtrolls, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Song of the Sea. The only other one I've watched so far in Tale of Princess Kaguya, which I absolutely loved.

Big Hero 6 started out very nicely, introducing you to some interesting characters animated in a very slick 3D style. Based on a Marvel comic I had not heard of before this film, we get another super hero origin tale about how a small group of geniuses come together as crime fighters, using their individual "products" they have developed to sit in for actual super powers...sort of like 5 individual Batmans with all the cool gadgets.

While the story starts out fine, I found myself losing interest as it devolved into a formulaic and predictable second half. Because of this, I cannot give this film more than a 6 on the rating scale.

To sum up:

Positives: Slick animation style, Baymax

Negatives: Second half too formulaic and predictable, characters other than Baymax.

Just like every year Disney always brings out films that are mostly good or adorable, and a long comes Big Hero 6 and this movie is on the level of adorable, but not that close to brilliant.

The animation in this movie was so colorful and so gorgeous to look at that my eyes couldn't get enough of it. The character's were funny and pretty awesome, even Baymax which has to be the most adorable and the most lovable character I've seen on the big screen. The action scenes were really well shot and enjoyable to watch.

The ending to this movie dragged a little bit for me. If they ended the movie about a couple minutes ago I could have given it a bigger rating, but the ending kept going and felt like it went on and on.

Big Hero 6 is a entertaining movie with beautiful animation and a solid story line.
