The great film, animation is good, the story is cool and different, is not that cliche that has in some films from Disney, the first I found a little weak, but then the film tip far more engaging.

This movie was visually stunning, heartwarming and overall just really fricking cool. Did the fact that a 4 year-old behind my row gave a full length commentary detract from the film...pshhh, not at all! I digress.

When people say a movie is "fun for the family", this is the kind of movie they are talking about. Disney animation is flawless as ever and the characters feel like a perfect blend of Toy Story and Spiderman, just like San Fransokyo.

The story is one filled with sadness, but ultimately triumph and really at its core, friendship. People should stop saying time heals all wounds and really say friends and family heal all wounds. This leads me to the best friend anyone could ask for, Baymax! Anyone who knew anything about this movie knew Baymax was going to be the main draw and rightfully so. You find me someone who wouldn't love a giant marshmallow golden retriever nurse?!

I'm a 28 year-old manchild and my 22 year old female cousin both truly enjoyed this flick, terrible parents aside. If you are looking for a movie to check out, give this one a go.

The story takes place in the future following Hiro, a robotics prodigy in the city of San Fransokyo as he goes about his life with his older brother Tadashi and their group of friends. This time around the ultimate disney hero is provided for those who enjoy the cute and squishy, the ever so huggable and inflatable medical robot Tadashi created named Baymax. The very image of Baymax in some of the trailers probably drew in the entire population of those under the age of 8. There are some dark events that leads everyone to come together as a team and essentially be a Disney movie, but all in all, as with How to Train Your Dragon 2. Disney has created another great animated action comedy that will bring a smile to pretty much anyone's face. Unless you work in a puppy mill, then you just shouldn’t be smiling.
Anywho, great movie to watch for those who, like myself, enjoy the creations of Disney.

Visually resplendent, gleefully hilarious, and superlatively emotional, Big Hero 6 is a solid, if slightly familiar addition to Disney's recent string of great movies.

The Jimmy Neutron meets the love child of WALL-E and EVE plot has moments of darkness kids films tend to avoid. Its also wonderfully animated and full of detail and touches that dazzle the eye, right up to the last act of good guys vs. bad guy battle that is a bit jarring and out of place.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will admit it. At parts this movie made me cry, laugh, and feel for Hiro Hamada. But there was a sort of bad aftertaste to it for me. This mostly consisted of the sometimes cheesy dialogue made by characters, such as Gogo's "Woman UP!" during the final fight, or Wasabi's, well, overall dialogue period. I just don't really like Wasabi. Some plot twists were obvious, some plot tools were cheesy, such as when Hiro "randomly" decides he needs to upgrade everyone. I did like this a whole lot better than "Frozen", though. This movie got my emotions roiling in several spots, and laughing uncontrollably in others. I will say though, the scene where Hiro tells Baymax to destroy Callaghan, was one of the most powerful and shocking scenes in cartoon and possibly superhero movies in general for me. I watch this movie every night when I go to sleep, but I always stay up for that one part. But, besides some cheese, my biggest peeve was the ending. True, I didn't want Baymax to die, but when he did, I really felt that this was a fitting end to Big Hero 6. When it came down to it, that is what Baymax was built for: To Save Lives. So when it was revealed that he was brought back, I was kind of disappointed.
After all that Hiro had been through, with his parents dying at 4, Tadashi dying after Hiro succeeded, Hiro finding out Professor Callaghan hadn't bothered to save Tadashi in the fire and that he was the person who stole his microbots, and almost killing Callaghan, and finally with Baymax dying, I felt that the movie should have kept Baymax dead, because it was too happy. Nothing in this world would end that happily, and when you think about it, it doesn't usually end happily there. And with Baymax being brought back in the end, wouldn't that basically just erase the meaning of his sacrifice.
Also, how did the fire start? And how did the group find Hiro and Baymax at the dock? I realize Baymax contacted them, but HOW WOULD THEY KNOW WHERE THEY WERE SEVERAL HOURS AFTER THEY HAD BEEN CONTACTED? Those things also annoyed me. Maybe the fire will be answered in the inevitable sequel or short.

Although it feels like the plot itself lacks some originality and a bit formulated with easily predictable twisted climax, the combination of bouncy actions and motions, amusing development in between the cool characters, usual family, love and certain emotional-driven moments and colorful 3D visual effects are brilliantly enough to allow kids to enjoy, but this Marvel's adaptation seems to aim at the older teens and adults. It is a little bit transformeric and Bayish-style by starting off with some familiar scenes in "Real Steel" and having electronic pop-rock style scores from the composer Henry Jackman. However, setting in a background of American-Japanese culture might lead to the thought of targeting Japan's market after enormous profit from there, but this adorable, kind-hearted, friendly robot Baymax reminds us of good moral values, and certainly, it will easily be one of the most loveable character among the audiences. Big Hero 6 is a visual masterpiece which speaks accord to the recent Disney Renaissance of movies, yet to older audiences will feel somewhat shallow and uninspired, despite the clever humor and brilliant setup.

The second and third act of the movie poorly utilize the first act's brilliant setup of character and humor, and resort to a plethora of cliches as the movie rides a trite emotional bandwagon to the underwhelming conclusion. The first 30-40 minutes are among the best I've seen in a children's movie, and they are the only point at which the movie's cliches and recycled visuals and story do not undermine the appeal and humor of the movie. The editing, pacing, and humor complement the narrative perfectly, but the film gradually loses its inventiveness that I hoped so badly would persist throughout, and it became something we've all seen before. It feels like the villain and main characters never got the chance to develop past a one sentence description of their quirks and motivations, making Hiro's character arc something that seems rushed and shallow.

However, I thoroughly enjoyed what the film offered as a strongly "Disney" movie, one which utilizes a brilliant blend of visuals and lighthearted humor to create an entirely unique experience. It doesn't strive to create something complex or intellectually endearing, so its failure to avoid tiresome cliches and a predictable twist and conclusion fall by the wayside to its success as a visual and emotional feast that continues to stick with me.

The characters were always enjoyable and kept my interest, but it never lead to anything more than a mild fondness, so when I heard there would be a Big Hero 6 I can't say I was anything more than intrigued. The first Disney animated film to feature Marvel Comics characters since the acquisition in 2009, the characters seemed ripe for an animated romp onto the big screen, but detail changes to core characters left many fans holding their breath and hoping that the animation pioneers wouldn't turn their beloved characters into nothing more than second rate acts for their theme parks upon the films release. I am here to calm some of those fears and tell you that Big Hero 6 is a lot of fun!
Hiro Hamada (voiced by Ryan Potter) is a 14 year old genius who loves robotics, so much that he's turned his passion into a career in bot fighting. Hiro's older brother Tadashi (voiced by Daniel Henney) is concerned that Hiro's talent is being wasted and tries to persuade him to attend college where he can hone his skills and hopefully achieve a successful career. Knowing nothing of the "nerd school" for which his brother boasts, Tadashi introduces Hiro to his classmates, Gogo (voiced by Jaime Chung), Wasabi (voiced by Damon Wayans Jr), Honey Lemon (voiced by Genesis Rodriguez), and Fred (voiced by T.J. Miller) where Hiro begins to realize there's a lot more to this college thing than meets the eye.
Hiro meets Robert Callaghan (voiced by James Cromwell), a professor at San Fransokyo Tech who convinces Hiro to enter an admissions contest. When tragedy strikes after his acclaimed nano robotics project attracts some unwanted attention, Hiro is left scarred by the incident. The young genius detracts from his newly found friends and becomes a recluse, hiding from the talents that lead to this tragic event. But fate steps in when he least expects, Hiro discovers Baymax (voiced by Scott Adsit), a kind-hearted inflatable robot built by Tadashi to serve as a healthcare companion. Soon Hiro realizes the tragic accident was more than originally thought and decides to take matters into his own hands.
Equipping Baymax with an upgraded data package and the rest of Hiro's new friends with superhero costumes and some super cool weapons, the group begins a mission to find the villain responsible. As the group begin to get closer to a person of interest, they soon realize that Hiro is blinded by revenge in his pursuit of justice which may jeopardize the mission. Faced with the notion that the young heroes might be over their heads, will the group find a way to pull it together and bring the villain to justice or will the need for revenge derail their quest?
Big Hero 6 offers amazing visuals and mixes the gritty tone of Japanese anime with modern American concepts. Directors Don Hall and Chris Williams create a truly enjoyable world and find a wonderful balance for their audience which doesn't discount the source content, but also allows for these characters to find discovery from a new generation. While the film does at times feel very cookie cutter in its telling, it doesn't detract from the overall experience.

Overall, Big Hero 6 is big fun for the whole family with characters that will no doubt find their place amongst your children's favorites for years to come. Comic book fans rest assured, your beloved BH6 have been well looked after, even if Baymax looks more like the stay puft marshmallow man than an ass kicking machine. Pick your battles people..it's still a lot of fun!

Disney never fails to create animated movies that are beautiful to watch. In the case of San Fransoyoko, there is no difference.

Big Hero 6 is great. A must see that will make you laugh out loud and keep you on the edge (even though you know how it will end.) Though one of the major plot twists was predictable from the villain's cue. It did not take away from a good story.

This plot was darker than most Disney plots, which was a welcomed change. Their protagonist, Hiro (Hero), was the most complex Disney character since Maleficent. Dealing with lost is not easy, but it helps when you have a lovable character like BayMax, who is strangely reminiscent of Wall-E.

I will watch this movie again because it is very enjoyable and flows effortlessly. It was clever on all angles and a joy to watch. The movie does fall into the trap of the corny that we've come to expect from Disney, but it does not take away from the overall movie.

A sequel of this movie would be great, surrounding Hiro's parents and I would not be surprised if Disney is already working on it. Family was a huge theme and it was handled very well. All in all, a great movie.

Baymax has to be the most adorable and coolest Disney character I've seen in a while.

The story is about San Fransokyo being under attack - but robotics expert Hiro Hamada, with his robot Baymax, will team up with some reluctant, novice crime fighters in order to save the city.

Just like every year Disney always brings out films that are mostly good or adorable, and a long comes Big Hero 6 and this movie is on the level of adorable, but not that close to brilliant.

The animation in this movie was so colorful and so gorgeous to look at that my eyes couldn't get enough of it. The character's were funny and pretty awesome, even Baymax which has to be the most adorable and the most lovable character I've seen on the big screen. The action scenes were really well shot and enjoyable to watch.

The ending to this movie dragged a little bit for me. If they ended the movie about a couple minutes ago I could have given it a bigger rating, but the ending kept going and felt like it went on and on.

Big Hero 6 is a entertaining movie with beautiful animation and a solid story line.

They have been on a winning streak these recent years and are currently in their new "Renaissance era".

'Big Hero 6', unlike most Disney films which are usually based on fairy-tales, is actually based, or loosely based on a Marvel comic book of the same name. This movie looks like a combination of two Brad Bird classics...'The Iron Giant' (1999) and 'The Incredibles' (2004), so it looks fun. It tells the story of a young, teenage boy named Hiro and his relationship with his older brother named Tadashi. An event occurs somewhere in the lab that Tadashi studies at and Hiro is left with his older brother's most successful creation. A balloon robot named Baymax.

Hiro is angry about his older brother's death and vows revenge on whoever it was that caused his death in the first place. Hiro plans to assemble a group of nerds (Tadashi's friends) and defeat the villain. The characters include; GoGo Tomago, Wasabi, Fred and Honey Lrmon. These, along with Hiro and Baymax will form the "Big Hero 6".

When it comes to unknown Marvel properties being adapted into film, I liked this film MUCH better than 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (2014). However, if I was to judge this as a Disney film, here's what I would say.

'Tangled' is a really fun "Disney Princess" movie, one that even guys like myself can enjoy, and that's thanks to the humor that Flynn Rider injects. 'Wreck-It Ralph' is a typical boys movie about video games, so of course I was going to like that movie, maybe I'm too biased towards it. And 'Frozen' had all that feel of a golden-age classic Disney film with some catchy, sing-along songs, and, like 'Tangled', the humor injected by Kristoff and his reindeer Sven (who reminded me of Han Solo and Chewbacca), that's something guys can enjoy.

I love Disney movies as they have played a huge part of my childhood and I love Marvel movies just as much as the next guy. 'Big Hero 6' is everything a guy could dream of, but I found the pacing of this movie to be a little slow and the characters, I don't feel, were as strongly written as Baymax was. Maybe this movie is like 'Aladdin' (1992), where the Genie (voiced by the late Robin Williams), kept you watching, but the other characters just keep the plot moving.

This movie does have emotional moments, and I'm no cynic, they are heartfelt. Children will enjoy this movie more than adults (because we always look for something innovative when it comes to film), and I don't think this movie deserved the Oscar win compared to the other nominees, it's not a bad movie, it's just a good movie that didn't need an Oscar.

Solid 8/10 from me, not as strong as 'Tangled', 'Wreck-It Ralph' or 'Frozen'...but it's another good Disney movie and I will watch it again in the future, (who knows, maybe I will like it more)...I will DEFINITELY want a Baymax toy though...

But it is still very good and one of their best easily since the Renaissance. It did feel a little rushed at times and felt like it tried to do a little too much in the storytelling, as a result some ideas that were introduced like the science-is-good message gets lost. If it slowed down and explored a little less areas it would have improved things. The villain felt underdeveloped and his reveal came over as very obvious and forced as well.

However, the animation is outstanding with lots of rich colours and textures, backgrounds that are incredibly detailed and sweet(but not in a cloying way) character designs. One of the best-looking recent Disney films definitely. The catchy and upbeat yet atmospheric and emotion-filled soundtrack and smart script are other things to like, as are the brisk(when not rushed) pacing and rousing if not exactly inventive action. While the story is not flawless, on the most part it's still a winner. Whatever originality it may lack, it more than compensates for that with fun and heart. There are plenty of funny moments(i.e. Stan Lee), and of the laugh-out-loud witty kind and even better is the emotional impact Big Hero 6 has. The brother-brother relationship is handled very affectingly, like between Anna and Elsa in Frozen it was Disney trying to explore a different kind of relationship than they did before and it succeeds in that respect.

Sure Big Hero 6 sometimes takes a dark tone but not in a heavy or inappropriate way, there's no reason why anybody should be disturbed by that. The characters are not the most developed ones there ever were and as said more should have been done with the villain, but they're still engaging. Hiro is a very flawed but still likable main protagonist and his relationship between brother Tadashi is beautifully done. The most memorable character for me though was Baymax, he has to be one of Disney's most adorable characters, along with Maximus(Tangled) and Sven(Frozen) he has one of their cutest since the Renaissance. As well as being beautifully designed he displays a lot of laughs and a wide range of emotions, literally the film's heart and soul. The voice work from all(I just wish that James Cromwell had more to do) is very good, with particular mention going to Scott Adsit and his voice is a good match with Ryan Potter's deeply felt Hiro. All in all, not one of Disney's best but one of their better ones of the past 15 years. Haven't seen all the Best Animated Feature nominees but while this viewer did prefer How to Train Your Dragon 2 and the un-nominated Lego Movie they still felt that Big Hero 6 was still a good enough film to merit an Oscar nomination. 8/10 Bethany Cox

It is yet another example of how an obscure comic can be transformed into a really good movie. Baymax was a really good character and probably one of the most adorable robots in film. Hiro was a good character too because he was pretty complex. One of my favourite scenes was the one where Baymax is low on battery and he starts acting all drunk (but I feel they missed an opportunity to have him start singing "Daisy Bell" like HAL from "2001:a space odyssey") it's a very good movie, highly recommended to both superhero fans and Disney fans. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Big Hero 6 is visually stunning, funny, and heartwarming.

After Disney's groundbreaking success of Frozen comes Big Hero 6 to once again captivate the attention of animation lovers and audiences alike. Even though Big Hero 6 provides a decent family-friendly storytelling that is not that grandeur or of a heft in narrative, still it manages to provide a satisfying and entertaining experience with it's wonderfully animated characters, touching sentimental moments, and nice soundtrack, especially the song "Immortals" from Fall Out Boy that adds excitement to a specific segment in the movie.

Baymax's design and characterization deserves credit. As a cute, huggable, and a rather naive medical robot in the story, it succeeds in luring audiences to love him and provides merchandising profit as a marketable product for the companies that produces this movie. Big Hero 6 distributes a huge heart and admirable relationships between the three main characters of the movie - Hiro, Baymax, and Tadashi. Their voice casts have done a splendid job notably Baymax. The other characters in the Big Hero 6 team are uniquely designed but lacks flavor on their characterization within the film.

Big Hero 6 also tends to be somewhat predictable, especially on the revelation of the villain. The villain is quite a lackluster character but still forms a huge part of something quite touching and unexpected in the ending segment of the film that deserves a very important attention from the viewers; don't dare to miss it.

Hiro's tale of lost and grief over his brother's demise as well as Baymax's is crafted realistically and shows to viewers that it haunts Hiro sorrowfully, and yields sincere emotional turmoil on those segments in the movie that is equally pleasing and heartwarming.

Overall, Big Hero 6 releases us from a (Disney product) "Frozen" mania experiences on year 2013, especially the addictive song Let It Go, because 2014's Big Hero 6 is an enjoyable animated flick filled with humor, heart, and an admirable Baymax character.

A very worthy Oscar nominee.

Rating: 8/10 -> 4/5 stars

I will say this movie is weak 8.

only weakness this has is the there is little focus why the others join the quest to find truth about the event that was the starter to this story.

Expand

It's entertaining, heartwarming, exciting and funny, yet feels formulaic and bland at many points. The main characters are charismatic (Baymax is so cute), Hiro and Baymax develop a good chemistry and there's a heartbreaking reason behind it, but that's pretty much it. I can't say the animation is wonderful, which, sure the visual effects and the character animation are nice, but nothing too impressive or visually creative. Besides Hiro and Baymax all the other characters feel pretty much one-note, the villain is incredibly boring and once it's revealed who's behind that mask, that character starts to be a completely different character, with a solid motivation but with a plan that makes no sense. The superhero stuff is dull, generic and predictable and they never feel like a team, we never see a creative use of their powers or anything, that's why the actions scenes, at their core are reaaaaally bland. It has some emotional moments that actually work pretty well, but overall, don't save this movie to have some major flaws. Oh, and TJ Miller is in this movie, even when just voicing a character makes me want to punch him in the face, his character and line delivery is not funny and really annoying...Seriously, why do they keep casting this man in comedic roles!? Overall it's not a terrible movie but there's no denying that it's far from being a great movie, not even among the best of 2014 as that was a year of soooo many good animated movies (HTTYD 2, The Lego Movie, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, Song of the Sea, and I can go on) and it's borderline infurating that this took the Oscar when literally any other of the nominees were far better movies in every aspect. Although there is a new thing in this movie, not an idea that breaks paradigms, but interesting as well: mourning and how to face it. We notice the reactions, the different paths to overcome it and the acceptance. All of this is achievable by the presence of a protagonist that allows to audience to identify with, a lovable/charismatic companion and a parade of eccentric friends. The best way to describe Big Hero 6 is if The Incredibles, Iron Giant, Avengers and Terminator 2 all came together into one. In other words this is a pretty good movie. However it is Baymax that carries the movie on his robotic shoulders.

The only thing I actually really enjoyed was Baymax. The movie was funny in some parts, and Baymax is a pretty interesting and creative character. However, if Baymax didn't exist, this movie would be pretty bad. 2.5-3 stars bad. I'd say if you have kids, this wouldn't be THAT much torture to watch. It isn't a bad movie, but it isn't very good by Disney standards either. If you REALLY want to watch it, knock yourself out, but if you aren't really sure or you don't think that you'll be very interested in the movie, save the money for another one. Expand

It seems that many people liked the film because they saw it as an original idea, I do not know but for me The Lego Movie is a great original idea, but this not. Bone is not bad, the only thing I am against is that Disney continues to use the cliche to Kill the parents of the protagonist and the character you loved you so much, it's something that we have seen in many Disney movies and I still do not understand why still do, maybe is its a formula of making movies or maybe is a betrayal of the studio, do not know. If they wanted to kill as Tadashi do it but at least let their parents are alive, not make them disappear from the film and say they are dead without explaining how they died. I also found it absurd that the reason for why is Callaghan the bad guy and the Baymax sacrifice, i know many people cry but I'm sorry, I'm think it's really silly and absurd, but the film is really bad? no, it could have been better? probably yes. There are many things that they liked me the film, I like animation, the characters, the comedy, the action scenes, the city San Fransokyo, the tecnology, the friendly relationship of Hiro and Baymax and the message. I just do like Minions as if it werent these 2 problems the film could have been better. In my opinion, Big Hero 6 is entertaining, Not the best of the year but is entertaining. The beautifully made animation was the best of any animation seen so far. Spectators of the film wouldn’t suspect a fourteen year old boy genius to get into college at such a young age; the boy had proved to show great intelligence throughout the movie. Many people fear the development of A.I. and this movie puts that thought into a different perspective. MIT’s article on A.I. titled “Our Fear of Artificial Intelligence” reflects people’s fear of A.I. which is the opposite of what “Big Hero 6” stands for. They say that “A true A.I. might ruin the world- but that assumes that it is even possible” (Ford). This article not only explores the dangers of A.I., but it also explores the benefits. One of the benefits could be that “A benevolent superintelligence might analyze the human genetic code at great speed and unlock the secret to eternal youth. At the very least, it might know how to fix your back” (Ford). This makes Big Hero a timely film due to the fact that it explores the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence at a much more innocent level, than what could happen if someone were to go too far with A.I. Overall our group does endorse the message Big Hero 6 brings up following the lines of Artificial Intelligence, however it still needs to be kept in mind that Artificial Intelligence is dangerous. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Big Hero 6 won as Best Animated Feature Film, and the other films nominated in this category were The Tale of Princess Kaguya, The Boxtrolls, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Song of the Sea. The only other one I've watched so far in Tale of Princess Kaguya, which I absolutely loved.

Big Hero 6 started out very nicely, introducing you to some interesting characters animated in a very slick 3D style. Based on a Marvel comic I had not heard of before this film, we get another super hero origin tale about how a small group of geniuses come together as crime fighters, using their individual "products" they have developed to sit in for actual super powers...sort of like 5 individual Batmans with all the cool gadgets.

While the story starts out fine, I found myself losing interest as it devolved into a formulaic and predictable second half. Because of this, I cannot give this film more than a 6 on the rating scale.

To sum up:

Positives: Slick animation style, Baymax

Negatives: Second half too formulaic and predictable, characters other than Baymax.

This is all very fast moving, even for a kid's film and whilst it is admirably decently animated, Big Hero 6 doesn't create too much depth as to what it is trying to achieve. A generator of sympathy, meaning the bad guy is essentially non threatening at all. It's also a shame that genuinely quirky and interesting characters like Wasabi and Freddie didn't get a whole opportunity to explore their potential as much as they should've, giving warm and relieving addition to their futuristic suits. This being said, Big Hero 6 is solid to entertain, the chemistry between Baymax and Hiro is humble and charming and will please as a family movie. Just don't expect anything too meaningful, it often gets too caught up in sad moments that it forgets the environment it is set in isn't that harmful at all. Expand

However with the title of "Big Hero 6" you hoped to see a spoof of the Justice League with possibly one of the more humorous robots of the past years. Despite these elements, it never exceeds to be anything flavorful with a rather unremarkable protagonist whose sole function is to whine a good amount of the movie, and where the plot fails to pick up any sort of momentum.
With all this, Big Hero 6 doesn't stray too far from the Disney formula of: early loss of loved one, meet new friend, fight bad guy, get beat down, cheery emotional pep talk, and fight bad guy again but this time save the day. However it does these elements much better than past Disney or Pixar films, and that I really like.

I love Disney movies just as much as the next guy, but I had mix feelings about the plot-line and some of the characters.
First of all, they had to drop the dead parents bomb. I understand there are some situations where Disney appropriately uses this to build character like in finding Nemo depicting some of the struggles of a single parent. There's nothing important about Hiro's lack of parents. His aunt may just as well been his mother. Why not present a more relevent reason for his lack of parents? Take Caroline for example. Although the parents are "there", it's only superficial because they pay no attention to her. That's a common problem many teens experience. There are also way too many secondary character sacrifices. It lost it's poignancy after a while and you knew which characters would not make it.
Other character inconsistencies include Baymax. He's funny and charming, but he seems to be more of a cute ploy to attract viewers. I wouldn't have been suprised if he didn't exist in the original script, because he doesn't bring effect the plot as much. The villain also was a bad choice and his motivations seemed rushed. Not every villain has to be a "suprise".
Lastly, the here seems to be no redeeming theme of the whole film. Sure there was your usual team-work montage and the typical "revenge is bad" lesson, though I didn't feel as though Hiro learned anything from his trip. The work/pay-off section as well didn't really seem to teach me much either. While a theme against cutting corners was hinted, it never was tied together. There are some themes in Big Hero 6, but they are pretty typical in most kids films and aren't particularly followed through.
It's not a bad movie. The animation is superb as one would expect from a Disney animated film and there were a lot of laughs and fun quirks you will enjoy. Unfortunately without deep characters, motivations, or themes, the movie wasn't as memorable as I anticipated.

The intentions of the writers might not have been to link to K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle, but a Japanese controlled San Francisco is bound to invite that comparison. Which gives the film a horrendous back story that it never intended, but still infiltrates the viewers mind. Could they not have kept them in Japan like in the comics? That said the animation team should be patting themselves on the back, this is a masterclass in human emotion and natural movements which most animated films still have yet to get right two years later. Which if one were to view solely for the animation then yes it was deserving of its Oscar. However if we take the writing into account, then this is a cliché within a cliché that leads to a point where the villain gets rewarded for his endeavours, while the good guys might save the day, they are the one's who ultimately lost more. The work was predictable as predictable gets and one could see everything before it happened, so if you are a future animation student watch and enjoy, if you are anyone else, then it is average at best.

Before watching this film: I'm not aware of the source material for this film.

Premise: A brilliant young inventor assembled a robot and a group of friends into heroes to go against the person who had stolen one of his invention and killed his brother.

Pros: 1. It's a heartwarming story about a nurse/doctor robot that would do anything to keep his master safe. Made by the people at Walt Disney Studios (actually people from Pixar Studios).

Cons: 1. Could have been great if it had not looked like a lazy rip off of The Incredibles by the same Pixar people who made The Incredibles.

More: If Jobs was around, he would not have allowed this to be made or if he had come aboard after the film had been made, he would have demanded major re-animations or just canning of the whole film.

Score: 3/5 (no half scores). Watch it on TV only.

It's an ok movie, but it has a very cliche and predictable story and the interesting characters are put aside, the movie is by no means bad, but it could've delivered a little better. Also I knew who the bad guy befor they even revealed it.

Big Hero 6 is a well-made superhero animation which tells nothing new nor special. The animation lacks a good screenplay though it is a decent one for teenagers.

The fast-paced and fun-laced screenplay, and the adorableness of Baymax do not quite succeed in overcoming the hackneyed nature of Disney's Big Hero 6.

It was a great movie but not the best. Its graphics was quite good and I love the city in the movie. However, I do not like the storyline very much because Hiro's bro should not be died soon.

Before I explain myFollowing the positive track record that Disney's animated studio has, with recent releases of Frozen and Tangled, it was easy to see why I was excited about Big Hero 6. But, that excitement was short lived. Before I explain my dissatisfaction with the movie, I will go over the positives of the film.

Baymax is as loveable a character as any Disney has put to film, and the humor associated with him makes for quirky and intelligent dialog. The visuals are also something to behold, but I've come to expect it from Disney. The voice actors are also well versed and expertly chosen for their individual roles. However, not everything is done as well.

Big Hero 6 struggles to find out what kind of movie it wants to be, and its quick shifts between emotions allow the viewer no time to grow attached to any of the characters. The movie also tries to throw a plot twist at you that is predictable and unimaginative. The plot, story and progression all seem eerily familiar, and that's because they are all copied from films of all genres. It's cliche to the maximum and never creates its own unique identity. As it struggles to find its identity, the movie gets progressively more boring to the point of total disconnect.

But, I can only fault BH6 so much because it is a movie targeted at a younger audience. However, comparing it to the studio's two previous films, Frozen and Tangled; BH6 cannot hold a candle nor even a match. Disappointing, confused and highly dramatic, I give BH6 a 5-out-of-10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had very great expectations for this movie especially after seeing reviews/box office earnings. However, i was terribly disappointed. it seems this movie was made solely for young kids who have little sense of how the world/reality works. Too many movie cliches used in this movie... so many that I can't think of a single original plot line/device used by this movie. You could see plot twists from a mile away e.g when it was about to be revealed that Callaghan was the guy in the mask. This movie is for little children who swallow everything they are fed. I give a 5 rather than a 2 or 3 just because a few parts made me genuinely emotional. Overall, an overrated, over-hyped disappointing movie. Expand

I thought it was again built for kids with a sprinkling of adult concepts enough to emerge from childlike entertainment to amuse the adult funny bone throughout. Wrong! This is a kid's movie...period. Intense color, action, no logic to the story elements, just a kind of psychedelic splattering of stream of consciousness video game dream sequences. Over 18? Beware the waste of your movie dollar. Under 18? The action, state of the art animation, and absolute childlike fantasies brought to life, it's beyond loveable. Expand

The animation looks good, the characters are ok on their own, but the story... oh my god the story is horrible. Cliche after cliche and forced emotional situations. It was clearly following a formula rather than a story. Whoever wrote the story needs to be shot for how badly it progressed. I actually predicted the entire movie in the 1st 10 minutes (I didnt know anything about it going in) and the only thing I got wrong was who the villain would be. I figured that the movie seems to cheesy that it would try another predictable twist like making the elder brother the bad guy and he is doing to get his GF back. That is how predictable the movie was. No originality whatsoever and it got worse as it went along. I almost puked when i saw it turn to a bad superhero flick. My friends 5 year old asked us why the kid didnt just build more of the small robots or make a new remote control (referring to the brain control interface).... how sad is it that a 5 year old figured that out? Not good.

Despite how bad the story was, I thought beta max or whatever his name was, was a funny character. The aunt was funny too. Everyone else was retarded including the main character Hiro.

Overall, average at best. Highly overrated.

INobody looks at the messages in a movie anymore, this movie is preparing our culture to try to become better god's than we currently are... lol, and teaching us that in order to ascend into a greater evolved self, that we need upgrades... I wish i could make this up but the only God, totally predicted this would happen (among other predictions that came to pass) and recorded the last time this happened culturally... humanity became pretty evil and God in his mercy had to destroy it in a world-wide flood to save Noah and family and all future generations born into the then (and now) unforgiving and evil world. You are told of all the nice things technology gives us but nobody considers all the terrible things we will do with it. Holographic sex doll anyone? Or if your grandpa was Hitler and someone uploaded him into the internet maybe he gets downloaded into a nice robot. My concern here is not technology itself, I believe we're just wanting it so to cheat death and keep sinning, not being accountable to God but BEING God. The wages of sin is death, and through Christ Yeshua (Jesus) you can live. But mark not my word but God's Word; we're not going to be allowed to live forever with or without technology apart from Jesus. God said "My Spirit will not contend with man forever" Gensesis 6:3. I'm not judging you for watching or even enjoying the movies, I just don't want people to be deceived. Your probably thinking i'm totally deceived too. That's ok but please don't hate me! Or say i'm being "intolerance" and then become totally intolerant of me. But when your kid begins to hate himself because he's not as good as all the superhero's he sees in every kids show or as big as the school bully, just tell him he'll get an upgrade one day. We don't need technology near as much as we need Jesus, our moral example and creator. Don't you think that he would know what would or wouldn't make us 'better'? Anyway, i'm not trying to convert anyone, I'm completely incapable of changing anyone's beliefs no matter how much I write here, that's a matter between you and God who says, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh..." Ezekial 36:26. I'm just saying we should seek truth for ourselves and not believe everything Disney or Microsoft or Nasa is telling us. Expand

There's not much in the way or originality in this film. It hits the beats that both a generic superhero movie and a generic Disney movie has to hit, leaving it decidedly lesser than most of either category.

Big Hero 6I have to say that I am becoming increasingly weary of both the quality of animated films lately and the seemingly tireless obsession audiences have for super hero films which, it seems I finally have to admit are not my bag. Big Hero 6 combines the two and aside from the brilliant animation and delight of combining the cities of San Francisco and Tokyo to make San Franokyo, this remains a bit of a slog to get through. Baymax is a lovely character, but the plotting is so predictable that the interest remains muted. Needless to say it's a big hit and sequels will undoubtedly follow, but I for one will sign out here.
Far superior is the accompanying short 'Feast' which is an absolute delight. With regards to this double bill, less is certainly more.

Lower your expectations. By a lot.

Starts off strong. Thought it would be a thoughtful, funny and charming movie. The premise is pretty good and had potential to be well rounded and interesting for all ages. However, everything turns out to be very predictable. The moral of the story is diluted to a bland catch phrase. There are many characters to develop and they turn out painfully one dimensional. Even the main character isn't really fleshed out because the movie turns into "pew pew" action for far too long in an unimpressive manner, making the story pretty generic.

If you want cheap movie with a few laughs that you'll forget about a week later, this is it. I expected much better from all the positive reviews and no the score isn't low because my expectations were high, the movie is just nothing special.

It seemed like it could have been a character driven Disney film. This along with Wreck It Ralph have attempted to hijack the legacy of Disney Animation to loud and obnoxious action scenes strung together with a cliche plot. Once again, this should have been under the Pixar label as not to ruin Walt's legacy. Cashing in on their Marvel acquisition, The Walt Disney Company has attempted to make a kids movie which resembles every single other super hero movie out there. Can you imagine if a classic like Aladdin just had 5 minute long action sequences strung together instead of jokes and songs? This one makes lesser known Disney films like The Black Cauldron and Atlantis look like a masterpiece akin to Bambi. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this film backed by the excitement and hype during its initial release.

This film makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. At what point does the kindly, elderly inventor of robotics (and creator of the laws of robotics) become a mass murderer, attacking children with robots?!

The comedy in this film is bordering on non-existent, barely raising an eyebrow or corner of the mouth. I think the screenwriter(s) wrote this in a drunken afternoon brainstorming session.

If I had a choice, I would have stayed in the robot fighting league, with my unbeatable robot -- raking in the cash, instead of turning a kindly inflatable medical robot into areinforced unstoppable death machine.

There are more plot loopholes here than swiss cheese, and even leaving all my expectations at the door, I was disappointed so much in every conceivable way, in every aspect of this movie, I find it impossible to understand the ratings this film has received.

The theme tune was also the stupidest and most tuneless piece of junk I have ever heard. If you listen to the lyrics (not an easy task) they make about as much sense as the storyline. "we could be immortals, immortals. Just not for long, for long". Fall Out Boy, buy a Thesaurus !!!

Do yourself a favour and avoid this steaming pile of robotic disappointment.
