Big Gold Brick could’ve been trimmed down a bit with a runtime of two hours and twelve minutes, and some of the characters, like Lucy, are not fully fleshed out. But overall, I enjoyed Petsos’ strange vision. Read full review

No one sets out to make a bad film, but at over two hours, the shot-in-Toronto Big Gold Brick seems like a bunch of ideas that must have looked good on paper, but just didn’t gel. In my mind I want to believe that Big Gold Brick seeks to define and offer itself as something different, and that could perhaps be taken into consideration if its creator thought for a moment that it could mean something beyond its abysmal quality.

But those pretensions that I'm personally assuming, of course, were not achieved in any way.

Big Gold Brick in a way is one of the most pitiful demonstrations of when a director clearly shows from where and from whom he's drawing inspiration and influences, but at the same time it shows a complete lack of identity and quality, because I can't deny that there is an idea behind this story, but judging that from what is presented here, evidently it only made sense to the director.… Expand
