But still way below any of the Alien trilogy (yes trilogy !) or Predator movies. I only have one large complaint: In 90 percent of the action sequences I couldn't see diddly dick. I watched this in the theater and on dvd with hight contrast settings. In swear to every thing that is holy - I could not see anything! There was a scene where the camera panned for 2min over absolute blackness while epic battle music was playing. What I liked about his movie was how the predator was practically not a hunter but janitor cleaning up the mess. Some characters were likable but mostly flat - which is OK because they are redshirts anyway. I love how this movie has action from beginning to end, and doesn't take to long to pick up the pace. That the plot was not very deep is a OK in my book. I mean the the title is Alien vs. Predator. Any movie with something vs. something in the title is not going to be an intelectula challenge. Trying to make the plot deeper would make it only pretentious. AvP Reqiuem is good monster and horror flick. Nothing more - nothing less. Expand

You might think it's off the topic, but what he says here might very well reflect how audiences are treating 'AVP:R'. Have a read: "No big blockbuster movie is immune to this. People like to complain. And believe me, I know all about that. When I play the Angry Video Game Nerd, I rip apart all kinds of games based on any flaws that I can find. Except I do it for the sake of entertainment. In the same way, critics and fans are picking 'Spider-man 3' to death. So you can either choose to be critical or not. Here's a question: say we cut out all those little annoying parts in the movie. Every flaw that's ever been commented on, we handle the villains differently, the sub-plots get removed or changed...anything, you name it. What will happen then? Will everybody be pleased? No. People will still find more things to dwell on. And no matter what the outcome is, every movie like this will be treated with mixed reactions. I can relate to the fact that it's impossible to please everyone." Expand

The lighting is near always dark and murky, the action sequences are filmed in such a disorienting way that it's near impossible to tell who's winning, the characters are little more than one note cardboard cutouts, and the plot itself is little more than-you guessed it- Aliens and Predators going at it for 86 minutes. BUT, if all you want for your buck is two of the most beloved monster franchises ever battling their way through an R-rated sci-fi schlock fest, then here you go. Not only is this AVP immeasurably better than the first, PG-13 rated entry, but it's also way more reverent of both franchises' roots- unlike the first film, this one actually feels like an Alien or Predator movie, and the Brother's Strause should be commended for capturing the mood of the classic films. But don't take that as suggesting that this is as good as Ridley Scott's 'Alien', James Cameron's 'Aliens', or John McTiernan's 'Predator'- 'AVP: Requiem' has more in common with 'Alien 3' and 'Predator 2' in terms of quality and origninality. But that doesn't stop it from being bloody good entertainment, which leads me to say what I thought I would never say: all hail 'AVP 3'! Expand

Duh, those were actually good movies. OMG the acting is bad?! Obviously, what do you expect with a zero-cast and a story that is a sequel to "AVP"? OMG it's not retarded campy TBS-style garabage? No, it's not. I can understand some people not liking it, but it did what it meant to do almost perfectly (it is a bit pooly lit admittedly). Here's the story. Aliens drop onto a quiet little mountain town. Predator follows it into a quiet little mountain town. The obvious ensues. If you wanted something else, then no it's not for you. But if you can appreciate and enjoy that being done well, then it's a very good movie. My only issue is that the pregnancy scene was completely unnecessary. Expand

I like the set up, some ideas and the Alien & Predator scenes. On the other hand I don't find the human characters and their stories that much interesting while not being awful. Also a lot of scenes are too dark to see anything clearly. This weakens the movie a lot as it is hard to figure out what is going on. A complaint by other I do not understand is the lack of ideas statement. It is Aliens vs Predators and not A Shakespearean play and for this we get enough. The story follows the events of the first movie. The Predators are leaving Earth after the rite of passage from the prequel but did not recognize that one of them was implanted with an Alien. This took them of guard and their ship crashes in a rural area in Colorado with a small town. The last dying Predator sends out a distress signal and on another planet a superior ranked Predator notice the and starts a clean up mission. This is the set up. As sidenote: An Alien is always stronger and more durable than the (unwilling) host species was. So an Alien from a Predator is far superior than one from a human. Like I said the Alien and Predator stuff is enjoyable and even the human stories are tolerable. However the later do not wow me. It is a bit more hit than miss for me. The characters aka actors are decent for the genre. Nothing outstanding but also nothing to start a rant. The special and practical effects are fine but take it with a grain of salt as I said a lot of the movie is too dark too see clearly (That is not a joke). Overall I think it is watchable but nothing worth to remember in both regards (Awful and awesome). As it hits a bit more than it misses a 6/10 is a fitting rating. As an afterthought: The blue chemical the Predator use is a far more potent weapon than anything else. A spray gun or injection dart would be devastating. Expand

It was Ignore the stat skewing votes, this movie is about average. Crippled by the premise of of aliens on earth carried forward from its much worse predecessor by Paul Anderson, this movie at least manages to get the R-rated gore right. It was further acquitted by a surprise ending that one hopes sets the franchise back on the rails. Featuring the Predator as our silent protagonist is both ambitious and flawed. More to be watched than listened, "Wolf" is a ruthless character true to his roots, his methods are interesting to follow and fans are spared the Predator-human buddy movie travesty of AvP1. Humans are relegated to being cliched bystanders, so the largely mediocre dialog and sketchy characterization remains secondary to the action. A small American town is the stage and its hapless inhabitants and protectors are mere statistics in the titular conflict between species, which is the central focus here. Rather than let this be a drawback, the brothers Strause manage to stay true to the limited scope of their creation and keep things simple. The monstrous antagonist brings something new to both worn franchises. With blended shades of the Predators who repeatedly fail to contain it, the Predalien runs rampant through sewers, streets and buildings, sparing neither pregnant women nor babies, while threatening to spawn overwhelming numbers of xenomorphs. AvP:R might appeal to Predator fans more than Alien aficionados. But while this movie provides no more and no less than popcorn entertainment, it still isn't the Requiem Fox should be aiming for. ThisAn Alien and Predator face-off movie sounded interesting and could have been an enjoyable action movie. The first Alien Vs Predator was alright and watchable but it definitely was a step down from the other Alien and Predator movies. This movie, however, is just average and dull. The human characters are boring and I didn't care on what they had to say. I mean come on, no one from the previous film returned! There's even a romance story in this silly plot and just seems out of place in an Alien/Predator movie. I would have also preferred the film to be set in space or the jungle which seem to be a natural setting for an Alien or Predator film instead of mostly being set in an urban city; yes I know that Predator 2 was set in an urban city. The Aliens and the Predator once again look grotesque and scary. Thank god the filmmakers kept their original design. The Pred/Alien (the Predator and Alien Hybrid) looks freaky but sadly, we not treated to many scenes with him in it. The Predator is the lone hunter and the Aliens are the horror freaks. The Alien, Predalien and Predator confrontations and the fights that they have do liven up what is a pretty dull movie. Oh when I say dull, I say this in terms of lighting. The battle scenes between the Predator, the Humans and the Aliens are shot in near complete darkness and it's very hard to see what's going on; very briefly, you'll get a glimpse of the action through the eyes of the Predator's thermal vision which helps distinguish what's going on. It really spoils what could have been a fun action flick. It may suit the tone it's trying to set: a horrifying atmosphere for Humans and its therefore good for the aliens to pick them off one by one without drawing attention. I know there's a brightness button on my TV but even with the brightness turned up, I still couldn't see very clearly in those dark scenes. The movie's plot incorporates the terrifying Alien breeding process, we Alien fans should know: Facehuggers attack humans and impregnate them with an Alien embryo, the Alien bursts out of the hosts chest and Alien terrorises civilisation by poking victims with its lethal little mouth. It's not scary because I've seen the process about 5 times but there's one scene in the movie which is disgusting and vile but I'd say it's one of the highlight of this movie and nearly as memorable as the chestbuster from the first Alien movie. Just like any other Alien/Predator movie, this movie is quite violent with human and Alien blood splattering all over the place and other violent behavior. The ending was stupid and the final battle wasn't as epic as I would have expected. The first Alien Vs Predator movie felt like a step down from the other Alien/Predator film but it has a slightly better story and was set in a more suitable setting for the Alien and Predator confrontations. This movie is nearly unwatchable thanks to its dull and dark battle scenes and I'd say it earns the title of the worst Alien/Predator movie I have seen. Expand

My biggest complaint with this movie is that the first half of the movie doesn't focus on the conflict of Aliens vs Predator, but rather it spends almost an hour giving us the backstory of the human characters and only gives us the occasional glimpse of an Alien or Predator. It's disappointing and boring because these characters are just stereotypes that have been done before in tons of other movies. But when the Aliens and Predator are finally set free on a rampage the movie gets enjoyable, but by that point half of the movie has rolled by so you only get about 45 minutes of the awesome fights. Part of the reason that is so upsetting to me is because I wanted the whole movie to focus on the fight between the two species, with some dumb humans getting caught in the middle to be little more than a tasty snack. But alas we get to focus on the humans this time, which is truly sad. Another issue I have with this film is that it seems some things that were put into this movie, like watching a child chest burst open or pregnant women in labor getting killed and having their unborn infants getting destroyed, seem to be put into this movie to shock or offend, but instead just come across as extremely bad taste. The writers should truly be ashamed. So enjoyed the second half of the movie (that's when the fight begins!) but hated the first half, and because of this the movie gets a half score. Expand

Although the "Alien vs Predator" action and fighting would not have been so disappointing... if only the lighting wasn't so appalling! How could they get this so wrong? Characters are forgettable, script is bland, plot was puzzling, and filming was just OK. Although I am a HUGE fan of the ferocious "Predalien". If only I could see it most of the film considering it was dark 3/4 of the time. "AVP" I enjoyed quite a bit, and considered it a bit underrated. But, "AVPR" is NOT a worthy sequel to that film. Quite a letdown to both the Alien and Predator fans out there, looking for a great, if not a decent combination of both the franchises. Nonetheless, still worth watching if you are a fan of either franchise. You don't want to miss this one out, even if it is a disappointment in the highest degree. Expand

Of course, after reading all the critics scores, I went in with pretty low expectations, so me and my buddy were able to enjoy it, although largely laughing at how bad it was in parts. At various points in the film, I could practically see the script writer pulling his inspiration from other (better) films before. i.e. "Hey, I loved that scene from the original Posiden Adventure where two groups meet, both heading in opposite directions, both thinking their's is the one path to salvation. No one will remember that scene, so let's do that here!" It wasn't all bad though. Go in expecting clunky dialogue, bad acting, and all the rest, and you can actually get some enjoyment from watching a predator and aliens go at it. Not that it will ever happen now, but man, I would love to have scene what James Cameron would have done with this. Now that would have been awesome. Expand

Expand

Actually, if lousy filmmaking bothers you, you should probably stay away. Bit of good news: the characters are all archetypes (ex-con trying to get straight, teen age loser in love with popular girl; she has a heart of gold) so you don't need much character development. Also the Predator has some cool dreadlocks, which help identify him in the action scenes. Question for geeks: there seems to be a time issue here -- this film takes place around now, in 2007, but Ripley fought Aliens well into the future (3007?). Pure, pulp crap. Nothing worse, nothing better, just that: glorified escapism.

Supremely stupid. This is so distasteful The entire concept is disgusting on every level. The entire cast and crew must have been desperate to have participated in this garbage.

The acting is pretty bad. It is really dull in the beginning. The ending is terrible, and it creates plot holes in the Alien series. It felt like Alien Fanfiction that happened to feature a Predator. There is a lot more I could point out, but I will leave it at this. If you are like me, one of the few people who enjoyed Alien vs Predator, and loves the Alien and Predator franchise, don't see this movie, it is bad. The only good thing this movie had going for it was the Predator. The Predator in this movie is probably my favorite Predator, but he felt like a side note. Only showing up occasionally to justify the movie title. So aside from a badass Predator, a couple decent fight scenes, and a cool fight between army members and aliens, this movie is just plain BAD. The movie may offer a lot of action, but since the lighting in this movie sucks, I can't see sh*t. Biased to Predators again like the first one. Laughably bad acting and an excessive amount of murky lighting send this film down to one of the worst movies of all time. Sorry to say that the fight scenes did not save this one. 2/10 (Horrible)

It's not the worst, but there's so many characters. There are 3 main groups of characters in this film, and one of them should have been taken out! Any of them can be disposed of, I honestly don't care.

AND WHY IS IT SO HARD TO SEE SOME OF

Not only was this a bad Alien/Predator movie, it was bad as any movie. This movie makes "Highlander 3" look passable. I rate it a 1 merely because a zero might be taken to mean that there was no thought in my rating this movie. The acting Not only was this a bad Alien/Predator movie, it was bad as any movie. This movie makes "Highlander 3" look passable. I rate it a 1 merely because a zero might be taken to mean that there was no thought in my rating this movie. The acting was wooden, the action was ridiculous, the story was garbage. Many of the ideas stolen from the previous films are now clichés. AVPR could be aptly named "Alien Movie" and promoted in the "Scary Movie" franchise. I loved Alien & Aliens, and loved Predator as well. They were great movies by great directors. These directors knew that suspense is better created when you don't show the Aliens/Predator early in the movie. Why not make the audience wonder? Maybe build up the fear? As far as I'm concerned, only two Alien movies have ever been made, and only one Predator. This movie was bad on whole new levels. It didn't only get bad as it went on. One might go so far as to say that it was geometrically bad! It was bad in every direction at once, and every direction spilt into multiple new ways of badness, and so forth, and so forth. The only suspense keeping you in the theater was wondering how they could possibly make it worse! Don't worry! They can... and they did! There's no real way I could possibly convey how bad this is with words. You truly have to see it to understand. In terms of knowing a bad movie when you see one, this movie will destroy your innocence. As much as I love the first two Alien movies, and the first Predator movie, please Hollywood, please let this die now. There will NEVER be another Alien or Predator movie that can not only live up to the first ones, but that can overcome the embarrassment of this one. Please let these die. They have no dignity. One of the worst movies I have seen in a long long time. Complete garbage from beginning to end. Complete garbage from beginning to end. What should have been approached with a B-Movie mentality has been reduced to nothing more than another variation of the tired old 10 Little Indians plot device where everyone is being chased and killed off one by one wth no regard to character development or anything resembling a decent story. The plot is hackneyed, the acting is atrocious and the less said about the bad CGI effects, the better. Please don't waste your time watching this dreck. If you must, simply just stay at home, pop some popcorn and watch a DVD double feature of Aliens followed by the original Predator. The experience will be far better than experiencing this crap-fest plus you'll save 12 bucks in the process. Expand

"Alien vs. Predator: Requiem" reminds me of Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" when the fourth wall was broken and the diegesis (in the case of the 1974 comedy classic, the film world of the old west) spilled over into other movie sets. The "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem" reminds me of Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" when the fourth wall was broken and the diegesis (in the case of the 1974 comedy classic, the film world of the old west) spilled over into other movie sets. The cowboys fought among themselves, but soon found themselves knocking out the extraneous bystanders. That's exactly what "AVPR" is like. The aliens from "Alien" and the creature from "Predator" are interrupting another movie already in progress(take your pick: a teen romance or a domestic drama) as their personal agenda gets sidetracked by those pesky humans.
