Generally a 'B' movie but i would give it a C+ since it is poorly shot but great story. Equally good but the first setting was not i was expecting. If you are hardcore Alien fan you will like this.

Not as good as first AVP, which was mediocre at best even to a fan of either franchises. I personally thought the violence on children and a pregnant woman crossed the line. Especially for a movie of little substance.

One of the worst movies ever. The plot is preposterous, the characters are useless and ignored, and the dialogue could not be more uninteresting. Even the Alien and Predator parts are awful because of the terrible lighting. A complete abomination.

Plus the writer must have forgot that aliens are actually really strong and smart because this movie makes them look stupid and weak. Almost enough to not call them dangerous. It's a shame, was hoping for something better than that garbage. You're better off sticking with the games and comics until some bright spark realises that maybe they should just stop insulting both franchises and stop making these films. Expand

It is simply not passable for multiple reasons. There is no story, the acting is ass, zero character development, bad lighting, and it overall just looks really cheap and just plain boring.

We have all of the same problems as the last film, but here they are amplified. We have more zero-dimensional dialogue vessels for characters that hold your attention for less time than the dullest political speech, the story is trash and there are several wasted opportunities, especially with the Alien-Predator hybrid, downgraded to a glorified Facehugger. The cinematography is atrocious, just as in the last movie, the director and DoP here don't know how to set up a shot. The fights are dull, but they are a mediocre improvement over the previous movie. As for the homages - I don't want to watch a film that shows how much the director enjoyed the previous alien and predator franchises.
I don't mind the odd casual homage here and there in any art form, but the amount of homages in this thing is shameless, almost as if the director has some sort of subconscious hope that if we see the things we liked in the classics we will like his film also.

ThisAn Alien and Predator face-off movie sounded interesting and could have been an enjoyable action movie. The first Alien Vs Predator was alright and watchable but it definitely was a step down from the other Alien and Predator movies. This movie, however, is just average and dull. The human characters are boring and I didn't care on what they had to say. I mean come on, no one from the previous film returned! There's even a romance story in this silly plot and just seems out of place in an Alien/Predator movie. I would have also preferred the film to be set in space or the jungle which seem to be a natural setting for an Alien or Predator film instead of mostly being set in an urban city; yes I know that Predator 2 was set in an urban city. The Aliens and the Predator once again look grotesque and scary. Thank god the filmmakers kept their original design. The Pred/Alien (the Predator and Alien Hybrid) looks freaky but sadly, we not treated to many scenes with him in it. The Predator is the lone hunter and the Aliens are the horror freaks. The Alien, Predalien and Predator confrontations and the fights that they have do liven up what is a pretty dull movie. Oh when I say dull, I say this in terms of lighting. The battle scenes between the Predator, the Humans and the Aliens are shot in near complete darkness and it's very hard to see what's going on; very briefly, you'll get a glimpse of the action through the eyes of the Predator's thermal vision which helps distinguish what's going on. It really spoils what could have been a fun action flick. It may suit the tone it's trying to set: a horrifying atmosphere for Humans and its therefore good for the aliens to pick them off one by one without drawing attention. I know there's a brightness button on my TV but even with the brightness turned up, I still couldn't see very clearly in those dark scenes. The movie's plot incorporates the terrifying Alien breeding process, we Alien fans should know: Facehuggers attack humans and impregnate them with an Alien embryo, the Alien bursts out of the hosts chest and Alien terrorises civilisation by poking victims with its lethal little mouth. It's not scary because I've seen the process about 5 times but there's one scene in the movie which is disgusting and vile but I'd say it's one of the highlight of this movie and nearly as memorable as the chestbuster from the first Alien movie. Just like any other Alien/Predator movie, this movie is quite violent with human and Alien blood splattering all over the place and other violent behavior. The ending was stupid and the final battle wasn't as epic as I would have expected. The first Alien Vs Predator movie felt like a step down from the other Alien/Predator film but it has a slightly better story and was set in a more suitable setting for the Alien and Predator confrontations. This movie is nearly unwatchable thanks to its dull and dark battle scenes and I'd say it earns the title of the worst Alien/Predator movie I have seen. Expand

No, it's not. I can understand some people not liking it, but it did what it meant to do almost perfectly (it is a bit pooly lit admittedly). Here's the story. Aliens drop onto a quiet little mountain town. Predator follows it into a quiet little mountain town. The obvious ensues. If you wanted something else, then no it's not for you. But still way below any of the Alien trilogy (yes trilogy !) or Predator movies. I only have one large complaint: In 90 percent of the action sequences I couldn't see diddly dick. I watched this in the theater and on dvd with hight contrast settings. In swear to every thing that is holy - I could not see anything! There was a scene where the camera panned for 2min over absolute blackness while epic battle music was playing. What I liked about his movie was how the predator was practically not a hunter but janitor cleaning up the mess. Some characters were likable but mostly flat - which is OK because they are redshirts anyway. I love how this movie has action from beginning to end, and doesn't take to long to pick up the pace. That the plot was not very deep is a OK in my book. I mean the the title is Alien vs. Predator. Any movie with something vs. something in the title is not going to be an intelectula challenge. Trying to make the plot deeper would make it only pretentious. AvP Reqiuem is good monster and horror flick. Nothing more - nothing less. Expand

It was Ignore the stat skewing votes, this movie is about average. Crippled by the premise of of aliens on earth carried forward from its much worse predecessor by Paul Anderson, this movie at least manages to get the R-rated gore right. It was further acquitted by a surprise ending that one hopes sets the franchise back on the rails. Featuring the Predator as our silent protagonist is both ambitious and flawed. More to be watched than listened, "Wolf" is a ruthless character true to his roots, his methods are interesting to follow and fans are spared the Predator-human buddy movie travesty of AvP1. Humans are relegated to being cliched bystanders, so the largely mediocre dialog and sketchy characterization remains secondary to the action. A small American town is the stage and its hapless inhabitants and protectors are mere statistics in the titular conflict between species, which is the central focus here. Rather than let this be a drawback, the brothers Strause manage to stay true to the limited scope of their creation and keep things simple. The monstrous antagonist brings something new to both worn franchises. With blended shades of the Predators who repeatedly fail to contain it, the Predalien runs rampant through sewers, streets and buildings, sparing neither pregnant women nor babies, while threatening to spawn overwhelming numbers of xenomorphs. AvP:R might appeal to Predator fans more than Alien aficionados. But while this movie provides no more and no less than popcorn entertainment, it still isn't the Requiem Fox should be aiming for. We all know so much about these iconic creatures now that part of the original fear or curiosity that we felt in watching Alien, Aliens and Predator is lost and we are forced to rely on the acting of the Human characters, which here is not great. There are no strong characters that you can really root for. The film almost does something new by introducing a glimpse of the Predator home world and of course the Predalien but these aren't enough to hold the audiences interest. Perhaps the next in the series if their is to be one should take place off world and show us something we haven't ever seen before from both these legendary movie monsters. Expand

If you thought AVP had fallen on its face then AVPR has rolled over and tumbled off a cliff. There seems to be an obsession now in these later films to pointlessly reference previous films ( the heroes name, quotes, even the sound of aliens getting shot sound exactly the same as they do in Aliens yawn yawn) I half expected Jones the cat to walk around the corner. The brothers Strauss have gone for the shock everyone into being scared tactics in this film but it just doesn't work. We already know how evil Aliens are we really don't need to see what would happen if one would accidentally wander into a maternity ward. But sadly what it did prove is that the talentless directors have not got the ability to create either the chilling atmosphere of Alien or the thrilling action of Aliens. You won't care about the characters you'll be sticking up for the away team if you can stick around at all. Predator 3 would have been more ambitious and the film wouldn't even require a human presence. Unfortunately the film will make money and there will be talk of a third this is not a continuation of a franchise its the film industry bursting out from the chest of all the paying public and that is genuinely stomach churning Expand

Rather than compare this to the previous Aliens vs Predator Movie, I thought back to the first Predator film and Alien. Against those films, this has nothing new to offer except the ability to overlook the menace and horror of the originals. The first Alien film had characters you sympathized with before it killed them off, this film just introduces characters as fodder. There were some truly gruesome concepts in this film, such as what happens to the women in the hospital. You could have made a whole movie about that scene that would give people nightmares for years. Instead it's a 2 minute segment that can be completely overlooked as it has no real relevance to the plot. Also, the way the Predator used one guy as bait for the Aliens was an interesting way of proving the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. But this was again not developed well. Expand

I still havn't worked out how they managed to turn this concept into such a boring movie the first time around, but dont worry kids this short but sweeet flick more than makes up for it! The movie is fan fest from start to finish and at just over 93 mins keeps the plot to a minimum, instead letting the stars of the movie (ie the aliens) do the talking. The humans are almost superfluous to the story and at the end you wont really care about the ones that survived - you'll just be comiserating that the didnt put a few more predators in for good measure. Of course, after reading all the critics scores, I went in with pretty low expectations, so me and my buddy were able to enjoy it, although largely laughing at how bad it was in parts. At various points in the film, I could practically see the script writer pulling his inspiration from other (better) films before. i.e. "Hey, I loved that scene from the original Posiden Adventure where two groups meet, both heading in opposite directions, both thinking their's is the one path to salvation. No one will remember that scene, so let's do that here!" It wasn't all bad though. Go in expecting clunky dialogue, bad acting, and all the rest, and you can actually get some enjoyment from watching a predator and aliens go at it. Not that it will ever happen now, but man, I would love to have scene what James Cameron would have done with this. Now that would have been awesome. Expand

You might think it's off the topic, but what he says here might very well reflect how audiences are treating 'AVP:R'. Have a read: "No big blockbuster movie is immune to this. People like to complain. And believe me, I know all about that. When I play the Angry Video Game Nerd, I rip apart all kinds of games based on any flaws that I can find. Except I do it for the sake of entertainment. In the same way, critics and fans are picking 'Spider-man 3' to death. So you can either choose to be critical or not. Here's a question: say we cut out all those little annoying parts in the movie. Every flaw that's ever been commented on, we handle the villains differently, the sub-plots get removed or changed...anything, you name it. What will happen then? Will everybody be pleased? No. People will still find more things to dwell on. And no matter what the outcome is, every movie like this will be treated with mixed reactions. I can relate to the fact that it's impossible to please everyone." Expand

This movie makes "Highlander 3" look passable. I rate it a 1 merely because a zero might be taken to mean that there was no thought in my rating this movie. The acting was wooden, the action was ridiculous, the story was garbage. Many of the ideas stolen from the previous films are now clichés. AVPR could be aptly named "Alien Movie" and promoted in the "Scary Movie" franchise. I loved Alien & Aliens, and loved Predator as well. They were great movies by great directors. These directors knew that suspense is better created when you don't show the Aliens/Predator early in the movie. Why not make the audience wonder? Maybe build up the fear? As far as I'm concerned, only two Alien movies have ever been made, and only one Predator. This movie was bad on whole new levels. It didn't only get bad as it went on. One might go so far as to say that it was geometrically bad! It was bad in every direction at once, and every direction spilt into multiple new ways of badness, and so forth, and so forth. The only suspense keeping you in the theater was wondering how they could possibly make it worse! Don't worry! They can... and they did! There's no real way I could possibly convey how bad this is with words. You truly have to see it to understand. In terms of knowing a bad movie when you see one, this movie will destroy your innocence. As much as I love the first two Alien movies, and the first Predator movie, please Hollywood, please let this die now. There will NEVER be another Alien or Predator movie that can not only live up to the first ones, but that can overcome the embarrassment of this one. Please let these die. They have no dignity. AVPR is where it all credibility has been lost. There is not one scary moment is this film. Once that happens in a franchise, it has become just another Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th. It's just something to walk out on or just sit there and laugh at it just like I did. The movie is too dark and now that the Aliens are Predator hybrids, dreads and all, most of the time you can't tell which ones are attacking the humans. The same goes for the fight scene in which it was hard to tell which is the alien and which is the predator. The scenes where the baby aliens bust out of the human chests is now worn out and has lost it's shock value. The quivering mouth of the Alien before every kill is also a joke. How many times do they need to show that? The human characters are boring and I kind of wished they would all die. This movie had alot of potential but obviously there were no original ideas left. I know now that if they make a AVP3, I'm not going. Expand

The lighting is near always dark and murky, the action sequences are filmed in such a disorienting way that it's near impossible to tell who's winning, the characters are little more than one note cardboard cutouts, and the plot itself is little more than-you guessed it- Aliens and Predators going at it for 86 minutes. BUT, if all you want for your buck is two of the most beloved monster franchises ever battling their way through an R-rated sci-fi schlock fest, then here you go. Not only is this AVP immeasurably better than the first, PG-13 rated entry, but it's also way more reverent of both franchises' roots- unlike the first film, this one actually feels like an Alien or Predator movie, and the Brother's Strause should be commended for capturing the mood of the classic films. But don't take that as suggesting that this is as good as Ridley Scott's 'Alien', James Cameron's 'Aliens', or John McTiernan's 'Predator'- 'AVP: Requiem' has more in common with 'Alien 3' and 'Predator 2' in terms of quality and origninality. But that doesn't stop it from being bloody good entertainment, which leads me to say what I thought I would never say: all hail 'AVP 3'! Expand
