Zack Snyder is almost as bad as Michael Bay. Where he enjoys his own work so much that he doesn’t edit enough out. The story is 2 hour worthy or less and he drags it out to 2 hrs and 27 minutes.

The protagonist goes around apologizing to everyone. Zombies are so fast and smart that if you teach them few few things they can go on to win the Olympics. What else to say about this film? Yes, I would call it a "set of shots" rather than a film.

This is my least favorite Zack Snyder film from his masterful filmography. A huge step down in quality in my opinion. I'm not one of those people who can shut their brains off and disregard the lack of logic in a film. Firstly, the positives:This is my least favorite Zack Snyder film from his masterful filmography. A huge step down in quality in my opinion. I'm not one of those people who can shut their brains off and disregard the lack of logic in a film. Firstly, the positives: 1) Great world building, for e.g. aliens, time loop & robot zombies 2) One of the best opening credit scenes in cinema (Zack has mastered the art of opening credit scenes) 3) Dave Bautista is a really good actor (he surprised me) 4) Great kills, visuals & CGI 5) Zombie tiger. Now, the negatives: 1) Weak script 2) Kate's character was pointless in this film (used as a plot convenience) 3) Why would Chambers believe others went through that small path? Dave's character would never fit in that gap 4) When Chambers breaks through the glass, no one helps her, when she could have gotten away and warned them about Martin. 5) Why did the team need a safecracker, when Tanaka could have given them the code? 6) I have no problems with long movies, loved Watchmen (directors cut), BVS (UE), Zack Snyder's Justice League & Man of Steel. However, Army of the Dead was 30 minutes too long 7) I wanted to see more zombie animals 8) Why would Martin and Tanaka want to pull of a heist, if all they wanted was the zombie head? 9) The romantic plot between Scott & Maria was really random before her death 10) Both Kate & Geeta's characters were pointless (including the refugee area sub plot) 11) The dream lense aesthetic for this film is not my cup of tea 12) A big step down from Dawn of the Dead (Script Wise)… Expand

right from the start the truck crash and zombie's leader entrance from it the whole intro to characters and the heist and the rescue mission it was awesome although story was decent the execution was brilliant, the dark tone with the intense music sets the whole environment amazingly, the characters were amazing the father-daughter duo and the whole team was great,
some scenes in this movie was literally mind-blowing like the zombie-tiger and the zombieleader riding in horse(got intensify) and the zombie baby scene it was unbelievably WOW, the twists in whole movie just like the lift zombie killing the girl it was literally outtanowhere it was shocking just like it the whole movie was stunningly intense, the whole heist from start the 1 by 1 person getting killed with the whole different intensions of the japanese leader was surprise the head of zombie queen and the army of dead chasing it it was awesome the queen's head splash at the chase scene was nuts. the annoying guys getting killed was satisfying, the ending with nuke and the fight in helicopter with finally dave's zombie creation with it the surviving chainsaw guy it was awesome although the whole geetha's story and rescue mission felt unwanted. the ending with airplane scene was gripping and just like that i felt i want more.dont know why people are disliking it although the whole plot was little "meh" conisdering heist at the time of apocalypse still Overall it was literally an awesome experience from start to end it was intense,dark and entertaining.… Expand

A zombie heist movie is one of the easiest genre to be directed as this genre is nothing but a fast action- drama. Snyder wasn't able to handle such an easy concept. The story was good but execution was weak. Everytime the movie gains some momentum, it is killed again with a long drawn out scene. Movie could have been 1 hour short, it was stretched. At one time, you may lose patience.

Overall, this movie had a lot of potential but due to above mentioned flaws this movie doesn't provide much.… Expand

This is a fun, but also very dumb movie. Aside the fact that nuking Las Vegas is an absolutely horrible and stupid idea, whether it's filled with zombies or not, there are also many other things which make you go "Hold up, why did that justThis is a fun, but also very dumb movie. Aside the fact that nuking Las Vegas is an absolutely horrible and stupid idea, whether it's filled with zombies or not, there are also many other things which make you go "Hold up, why did that just happen, it doesn't make any sense from a dramatic stance?" (Sure, I get that I'm the only person who feels that way).
Also **** the depth of field, it's jarring at best and irritating at worst.
Still, it was fun to watch, sure there may have been things pulling me out of the story (What the **** was even the point of the zombie tiger?), but I ultimately enjoyed it. I wouldn't really watch it again, though.… Expand

Zack Snyder avait déjà fait son « Armée des Morts » il y a bien longtemps (déjà) avec beaucoup moins… de moyens et une durée bien plus contenue (un peu plus d’une heure et demi) et le résultat était bien plus concluant que ce nouvel épisodeZack Snyder avait déjà fait son « Armée des Morts » il y a bien longtemps (déjà) avec beaucoup moins… de moyens et une durée bien plus contenue (un peu plus d’une heure et demi) et le résultat était bien plus concluant que ce nouvel épisode de deux plombes et demi.

La faute à ce scénario (ils s’y sont mis à trois, pourtant…) qui multiplie les incohérences à n’en plus finir et des psychodrames de guimauve à deux balles, des chansonnettes à la con qui vrillent les nerfs (et les oreilles) ainsi que des personnages qui sont autant de clichés et/ou de têtes à claques… sauf bien entendu cette bien jolie blonde que l’on avait déjà vue quelque part… oui, dans le falot et navrant Angélique de 2013 : Nora Arnezeder (et elle est française !).

C’est donc la seule qui s’en sort ici (avec le second couteau Garret Dillahunt) car tous les autres sont nuls à chier. Malgré tout, quelques bons moments (sanguinolents…) sont encore de la partie ici et là en dépit d’une réalisation pas toujours exemplaire, hélas. On peut constater quelques fulgurances du grand spectacle qu’on pouvait admirer dans « 300 »… mais trop rarement… hélas !

Preuve s’il en est que s’ils avaient revu leurs petites prétentions de prétentieux qui veulent se la jouer, les scénaristes auraient sniffé moins de rails et de fait, auraient moins fait de la merde. On a donc là un sacré gâchis… d’effets spéciaux en somme !… Expand

Everyone has their own taste and entitled to their own opinion. I feel people are extremely critical these days, nothing is good enough anymore and it seems very hard to please people with entertainment any longer. With that said, if you watch after the movie and really see Snyders vision and behind the scenes of the production, I think you will understand what he wanted to do and that he accomplished his vision. That is what it is, his vision, understand that and maybe you wont get hung up on your own critiques of what it could have been, should have been, or how blurry the camera is when that was intended with a really cool unique lens from eBay he bought and wanted to create the whole movie with a view from this lens. Very creative movie, amazing zombies if not the best I have ever seen on screen. Truly scary and the sounds they made was very unsettling, every time. Great job. Did I love all of it, no, but was it well done in many ways, oh yes. Look at it through a different LENS, and maybe you will enjoy what I see as well.… Expand

Would be better if when they were escaping was the movie instead of this. They broke the rules that they made. Like it takes ten seconds to become a zombie. But at the end the dues survives for like 5 minutes even after being bit. The only thing carrying this movie for me is the setting. Zombies in Vegas cool cool. Zombie animals cool im down with that. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All I can say after watching this is Wow! What a zombie movie! It really does a great job making their zombies unique, being more like a tribal civilization than mindless flesh eaters.

The kills and gore are phenomenal, there are some moments like Cruz's death where you do not expect a main character to live only for them to be killed in a brutal fashion.

Bound to become a cult classic for the genre in 10 or 15 years.… Expand

A bit of fun but mostly garbage, also pretty much a bad remake of Aliens with zombies and a different setting. I watched this and Godzilla vs Kong. Both were terrible, what a disappointing weekend.

Just skip this movie and save 2.5 hours of your time.

I am all in for simple action movies such as Fast and Furious, Expendables etc. So I went in expecting a simple zombie movie, with good Bautista action, shooting and hitting zombiesJust skip this movie and save 2.5 hours of your time.

So I went in expecting a simple zombie movie, with good Bautista action, shooting and hitting zombies paired with some cool CGI.

You can't go wrong right?

Wrong.

Even if you are high or drunk the (way too many) plot holes stand out like a sore thumb. You just can't turn your brain off that much.

The writing is non-existent and the movie doesn't make any sense at all.

Other reviewers have pointed out how big of plot holes we are talking about.

I give it a 3 because:

1) The action scenes were pretty cool and I think the actors did a very good job. Still, they don't make up for the huuuge plot holes. If this movie hadn't a plot at all it'd be better.

2) Make up, scenery all very good. Sad not more was done with them

3) Some interesting introductions on the zombies genre. Love it or hate it, it's a new take at least. Sadly, they don't do anything with this new set.

I think some reviewers are really unjust to the actors. I especially liked Bautista and the rest of the merc team and the action scenes they shot were cool.

If their dialogues and scenes are bad it's because of the writing, not of their acting.

Bautista I hope to see better movies with you, especially action movies.

Zack Snyder someone must tell you that you can't do everything in a movie.

As someone else said if this was simply a movie with some mercs going in to get the abandoned money left behind and just one story arc, it'd have been better.

Just a bad scripted movie. I think the writers from sharknado had a huge influence. Funny to watch with friends but not a movie you would watch twice unless you are drunk with different friends.

Typical Hollywood propaganda in this day and age. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Constant shifting of the narrative and so much dull downtime that you’ll want to throw up near the end. The main theme of the movie has nothing to do with zombies, but all about your typical social justice nonsense.

Just like the overwhelming majority of movies on Netflix nowadays, it follows the common theme of “dumb white beta male humiliated by intelligent alpha black male / trans woman.” I mean they’re not even trying to hide it anymore, every single villain in this movie is a straight white male, and all the good guys are colored, gay, female, or trans. The only time a straight white male is allowed to be portrayed as a good guy in these movies is when they’re overly submissive and always need assistance from the alpha trans woman (Dieter, for example).

They put this in 99% of media nowadays to subconsciously plant the “white man bad” idea in the minds of uncorrupted (for now) young kids, their target audience.

One could draw the conclusion that the movie symbolizes the zombies as Trump supporters and the rainbow zombie heist party as the “oppressed group fighting for reparations,” but I’m not even going to go there. Boycott Hollywood for your LIFE!… Expand

Firstly, the action scenes are great. The opening montage scene showing vegas becoming infected was phenomenal and could've been a movie itself. Near the end where it starts to live up to the title of "Army of the Dead" was one chaotic but fun zombie action sequence. I also like the soundtrack by Junkie XL even though there isn't a memorable soundtrack such as with the DCEU stuff. For the most part, the soundtrack elevates the scene and there is also pop music that actually works well in the movie.

I also really liked Dave Bautista as the main lead. Dave gives a pretty strong performance and shows that he can give emotive acting if need be. In terms of characters, there were three I liked which were Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick), Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) and Marianne Peters (Tig Notaro). I liked how Vanderohe was this badass zombie slayer while Ludwig was skilled in safe cracking but knew nothing when it came to zombies. The growing relationship between them is one of the best parts of the movie. I also like Marianne's wisecracking and sarcastic personality which was charming despite her small screen time. I also got to appreciate how they green-screened Tig to replace Chris D'Elia, who was accused of sexual misconduct, into the movie as it still feels natural. Although, the green screen can feel pretty obvious at times. Unfortunately, I could give zero care for the other characters. Everyone else is either so forgettable, dies too early or is unlikeable. Zack seems to kill off characters for shock value when the character themselves are becoming interesting which is a shame. There are also way too many characters in my opinion and I honestly feel like some of the characters just didn't need to be in the movie. I also have mixed feelings about the cinematography which is done by Zack Snyder, the director, himself. The cinematography isn't awful or anything but it certainly isn't as good as Zack's previous movies which are clear as he didn't hire a cinematographer and did it himself. It's just very dull to look at. There are also a lot of shots where it is blurry and pixelated which is just very ugly to look at.

The biggest problem with Army of the Dead is the writing which is also done by Zack Snyder. Zack had a unique idea with the zombie heist idea but he then ruins it by adding a bunch of convoluted zombie stuff and a dumb plotline with Scott (Dave Bautista) daughter Kate. Kate joins because a stupid mother went into a zombie-filled Las Vegas and she is going to find her. What annoys me is that there is no reason for Kate to be a part of the heist which is made worst as her character is annoying. Zack also seems to even forget about the mother as well which makes this plotline seem even more irrelevant. There is also a plotline with a spy that also amounts to nothing by the end of the movie. There is also some dumb plotline with the Alpha zombie and some baby thing which was also very pointless. Army of the Dead is 2 hours 28 minutes which is very noticeable as the pacing slows down a lot. They could easily cut it down by 30 minutes and the movie remains the same. I don't mind dumb movies and a movie can be so dumb that it becomes good. However, Army of the Dead is so dumb to the point that the movie loses enjoyment. Why is it the government can allow a group to fly out of Vegas but not fly into Vegas? Why is there a line about zombies hibernating but wakes when it rains if that is never going to come into play? If the vault is owned by Tanaka, the big boss who wants the heist, why does he not just give them the code? If Tanaka wanted the zombie blood then why not just have the heist be about getting the zombie blood instead of the bloody vault? Why does a character who never killed zombies ever, able to John Wick all the zombies? Why does the character who gets betrayed not mention the person who betrayed them? Why does no one help save the person who is only surrounded by 5 zombies and instead just stare at them? Why do the characters talk about their suspicion of this person being a spy but never bring it up again? Why is it with a Nuke incoming that the characters stop and stare at each other a lot? Why do they not just use dead bodies to activate traps instead of an alive zombie? Why is a dead zombie hand able to attract a zombie? Why do some zombies hibernate but some don't? How is a zombie horse able to catch up to a helicopter? Why do some people turn into zombies in a matter of minutes but someone else can takes hours? WHY ARE THERE ROBOT ZOMBIES? Why does Zack not understand how nuke works? Overall, Army of the Dead could've been a fun, exciting zombie and heist movie but fails to deliver in both. The movie had a lot of potentials but it is ruined by Zack's terrible writing skills. If you want some fun zombie action then there is that but don't expect much more.… Expand

Bautista made his very thin character much more enjoyable than all the others and I'm excited that he's trying to take on more dramatic roles now. All of the other performances are perfectly fine however I found the German character to be very annoying sometimes. The script isn't great but it's not bad either. All of the moral issues about free thinking and other species is incredibly on the nose and not subtle in any way, shape or form. The dialogue feels very wonky sometimes but it's better than Batman v Superman's dialogue. The cinematography is good at points but Snyder does not know how to use a tripod. It works pretty well for the action actually but not for dialogue scenes. Some of the shots are honestly beautiful but the shaky cam diminishes it. The story is passable but incredibly generic which is frustrating because this idea is fun but I wish they had done more with it. However, the action is pretty fun. It doesn't feel generic and is just a ton of fun. This is where the shaky cam works well. The visual effects at points are really bad especially towards the end with a helicopter flying. Another issue I had was the runtime and length of scenes. One example being the prologue. It's WAY too long. It gets what it needs to get done but keeps on going when it probably shouldn't plus the 2 and a half hour runtime is not warranted at all. 30 minutes of this movie is just bad jokes and really boring exposition which could either be cut out or done better to make the film more enjoyable. If you like Snyder or zombie movies then you might enjoy this but you can pass on it.… Expand

One of the better zombie movies I've seen. This one was nonstop action with some humor and Bautista was actually very good. The guy can actually act, unlike the rock and Cena. El guion es bastante malo, de estos que te justifican o te cuentan las cosas con opciones nada interesantes, además de una fotografía, que pintaba bien, pero al final acaba siendo malilla.
La duración no me parece justificable, te podían haber contado lo mismo en una hora menos, pero no, alarguémosla.
Eso sí, en cuanto a producción y secuencias de acción, está muy bien.
Pros: La producción, los sets están muy trabajdos, mires a donde mires hay detallitos, está todo muy cuidado, hay algunas secuencias, sobre todo la inicial, que está muy bien, en general las que tienen música, además, hay algunos momentazos, lo malo es que casi todos están en el tráiler, pero visualmente están chulos, y eso, la violencia y los combates está muy bien tratada.
Contras: Demasiados tópicos en una trama que no te cuenta nada, el ritmo escasea en muchos momentos, la duración, que ya he dicho que no es justificable, también se centra más en el drama que en proporcionar diversión, como parece que habían prometido, además, la selección musical es bastante burda.
Conclusión: Es una buena película, ni mucho menos va a reinventar el universo de los zombis, pero te entretiene esas 2 horas y media, pero tiene bastantes fallos de ego por parte de Snyder, ya que dirige, produce y escribe, además de la fotografía, haber derivado esas funciones a gente que lo hace mejor y habría salido una película espectacular, porque la premisa lo era.… Expand

Incoherent movie, characters follow a certain path only to justify the movie's plot. Did not enjoyed it.

At no point did anything in this movie make any sense. The team is hired to crack a safe for a guy who owns the safe? He can't just give them the code to get in? Ich sags mal so. Im Prinzip mag ich den Film. Leider hat er allerdings ein großes Problem. Ich wusste leider schon direkt wo die Reise schlussendlich hingeht. Ich werde es natürlich nicht spoilern. Ich werde es natürlich nicht spoilern. Trotzdem war ich am Ende gar nicht überrascht und wurde sogar mit einer unfassbar furchtbaren Szene gegen Ende bestraft.

Die Story hat ansich einen interessanten Ansatz. Es ist quasi ein Heist mit Zombies. Klingt seltsam. Ist es auch und das gefiel mir sehr am Film. Auch die Zombies hatten mehr Tiefgang als ich erwartet habe. Der Cast hatte ebenfalls Potenzial.. nur leider liegt die Betonung auf Potenzial. Am Ende verspürte ich nur ein Kopfschütteln. Auch wenn ich Matthias Schweighöfer nicht wirklich mag fand ich seine Rolle irgendwie unterhaltsam. Zumindest hat er bei mir mehr gezündet als ich erwartet habe.

Von der Las Vegas Kulisse wurde eindeutig viel zu wenig Gebrauch genommen. Klar man sah mal ein Casino. Das war es allerdings auch. Ansonsten sah man größtenteils Räumlichkeiten, die aus jeder Stadt hätte sein können.

Die Machart ist echt super. Mir gefällt das Design der Zombies, obwohl für mich persönlich die Zombies aus Walking Dead immernoch die erste Wahl sind. Trotzdem war ich dort ebenfalls sehr zufrieden.

Am Ende muss ich sagen, dass ich nicht enttäuscht wurde, allerdings war auch viel mehr drin. Klingt paradox, aber Ich war trotzdem gut genug unterhalten, obwohl mehr hätte drin sein können.

Dazu kommt noch ein lästiger toter Pixel Bug, der gruseliger war als der Film :D Da ich große Angst hatte einen kaputten Fernseher zu haben.… Expand

The lastest movie of Zack Snyder "Army of the Dead" is a funny splatter zombie movie tha didnt hide from the poster or the trailers of the movie. If you want to see a masterpiece oscar base movie , this is not for you . The action is amazing Batista starting to become a really nice action hero for the cinema and the quality of the photography is really nice. The plot is nothing special ... We are here for the action ,the troll moments and zombies. But its not ten .... i know i said before we are not here for the plot but there are some huge plot wholes in this film which i can noticed really easily and thats why is 8 and not 9 or 10. Gather with friends and enjoy the movie . I might noticed its a 2:30 hours movie but you wont get tired after watching it.… Expand

Trash movie dont watch it, it will make u mad wasting time bad action movie bad story line, zombie can be easily beat but they make it hard, those dont deserve to die dead by the end those useless piece of **** example the staring daughter, the dont listen to advise mom,wasting time to save her but she did nothing by the end make staring die, totally wasting time from start to end of hard work staring die just wan save her daughter that wan to save the stupid mom they should just let the daughter and the mom die the black guy did so good but at last he been bitten too wtf. The daughter did nothing from the start but she the only one live by the end everyone work so hard are all dead at least have so logic pls this movie is the worst movie of the year just like covid-19 .… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dave Batista was good. That’s it. **** stupid as **** I wish ZS would hire an editor and stop leaving NOTHING on the editing room floor. Ending was the most preposterous and stupid **** I’ve ever seen. I’d be interested to hear how long someone that just walked into ground zero of Hiroshima 10 minutes afterwards would’ve walked around a nuke blast w/o their organs failing immediately from absolute nuclear destruction. **** stupid.
Add that onto dude’s covered-up wound he has yet to inspect, NOT TO MENTION TURN INTO A ZOMBIE when it takes every other character minutes after a bite to turn just let me know how lazy and stupid this movie was.
So glad this was YET ANOTHER 2+ hour slog from ZS.
Maybe if he makes a **** **** 5+ hour ****-ass action movie, his fanboys and morons who enjoy this uninteresting, uninspired, and unoriginal drivel can win him some awards. Please watch DotD instead. It’s at least kinda funny and entertaining. **** Zack Snyder.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unbelievable how this movie it's wrong, it's not an action zombie movie and it's not a heist movie...
A lot of copy-paste from masterpiece doesn't make a masterpiece especially when half cast it's bad, it's like a Deja Vu because you know exactly that the daughter will survive but you wish she die soon because is brainless and non-sense, the only good point in the movie is Dave Bautista, Tig Notaro and Nora Arnezeder.
There lot of impossible things going on, when rain the zombie come back to life (the decaying brain), everybody around a nuke still alive, the main actors are less than 1000km and even Omari Hardwick that was in the middle of the explosion. Everybody got blood in the face but looks like nothing...
Snyder has spent years saying that his version of JL would have been better and instead it was only longer, I expected to see a film with a soul and instead, it is the thing that is most missing from this two-hour agony.
I almost forgot that the prologue it's 15 minutes long and stupid and (plot twist)it's the best part of the movie.
Don't waste your time...… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. snyder continues to fall into the same thing, in his own mistakes, very rare photography, very unexplored characters, situations very misrewhere.

the scenes that should give you sadness give you laughter or give you a lot of cringe for how poorly implemented they are, an interesting story, with very interesting zombies, with themes of multiverse paradoxes that will be very interesting to see in the future, the effects of cgi are horrendous in some parts, very poorly developed characters, the only good characters are those of Dave Bautista , Vanderohe, dietter, lily and guzman, are impeccable, but the rest are not, their deaths mean nothing to you because they never have a clear development.

this proves once again that his first film, is his best work next to the snyder cut, just a shame this movie, it's pigeon but too forgettable.

Pros: Interesting Story, Dave Bautista and Strauss


Bad: Very failed photography, horrible cgi (worse than the cgi of episode 9 of the 7 season of The Walking Dead), horrible characters, not development good, very slow in some parts. a 5/10, interesting but failed… Expand
