This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A movie full of amazing sets, amazing acting, amazing effects, amazing visuals but like others have said not overly convincing decisions made by the characters. Having said that they weren't all brilliant scientists like some are making out and "mother" did say the new planet was a better match that where they were originally going but they could have added that its their duty to investigate a signal in space as it might well be a distress call. This alone would help solve the biggest problem with the decisions in the movie. Promethius got a lot of bad press for being to heavy on the philosophical creation stuff and light on Aliens action this is somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately that will upset those who loved the mind bending Promethius and others who want an outright Aliens horror. I hope everyone can appreciate that its somewhere in the middle and in that respect it is truly an exceptional movie. Expand

Ridley scott and the writers are really trying to extend the Alien univers by taking it at its root. We have here a movie that explore the meaning of being god. Having the right of life and death upon the others. Having such a character as David was pretty unexpected but it feels so obvious now. I'v seen it twice in theater so I was able to really get a bit more objectif about it. The acting is good, nothing pull you out of the story at any moment. The score does perfeclty the job of taking the old songs of jerry goldsmith and reniew it. The general atmosphere of this movie is great. For what's might feel wrong I'd say the visual effect aren't always look the best. They tried to make the alien faster and ferocious by moving at an inhuman speed. The result might make us feel like it's a very ferocious creature but not very believable as we could see in the first Alien movie. It's definitely feel like cg as it is most of the time on screen ( except during the first neomorph attack). I would give it a 7/10 if not so many people would have rated it poorly for wrong reasons. ThisThis is simply a superior production both visually and story wise. i am glad Ridley Scott took the reins once more time. needless to say i am a huge fan of the series, however i never had doubts to criticize previous weaker offerings. This movie will answer a lot of your unanswered questions from "Prometheus", and the director understood that he could offer a bit more information on the universe he created 38 years ago. Picture is magnificent (CGI is overdone in couple of scenes but overall well used). In this movie you will for the first time in 3 decades have a clean, bold view of the creatures. Story is very well developed in my opinion and resumes in a great ending, with a lot more questions of course, specifically about the engineers. If you like the series you will surely enjoy this entry. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was totes excellent. I could have just watched the movie for 2 hours straight with the camera gliding over the spacecraft's interior the set designs were so well done. The scene with David landing on the Alien planet was nothing short of amazing.
The movie does prove that even in an advanced technological future, humans will continue to be incredibly stupid in their decision making.
Sorry captain that hypersleep nightmare was 100 percent your fault.

It is quite a bit better than Prometheus, which I find to be an excellent film, although maybe not quite as good as the first Alien but far better than the train wreck that was James Cameron's Aliens and the films that followed. The people who dislike this movie are uneducated and unintelligible people who have no respect for true art and merely crave senseless violence and gore instead of a symbolic, beautiful, and disturbing existential masterpieces that touches on topics of creation, religion, sexuality, narcissism, and taboos. This film is very much like a puzzle and it unlocks a new piece to its deep and complex story upon each additional viewing instead of spoon-feeding it's plot to the troglodyte marvel super hero movie watching crowd and wannabe elitist pseudo-intellectuals who praise films such as La La Land and Moonlight that seem to be surrounding it and making their absolutely absurd opinions quite clear. Their hatred for this film is born of a fear of inferiority. This film challenges their intelligence and is over their heads so in turn they place themselves above it and point down to say, "look how dumb this movie is". The diminishing intellect of the populace is why we can't have nice things like Alien: Covenant and instead are given a slew of cookie cutter oscar movies and dull superhero and action movies. Expand

After "Prometheus" (which I enjoyed but I thought was ultimately a bit pointless), "Covenant" returns the series to its horror roots. The movie plays to all of the "Alien" series' strengths: believable characters and camaraderie, unbearably tense situations, gross-out horror, and stunning outer space vistas. In addition to being technically impeccable, I appreciated the fact that "Covenant" is a horror movie for adults. Not only does it refuse to water down its violence, it allows the characters to have intelligent discussions without explaining everything they're saying. In our current era of bloodless PG-13 horror and endless exposition for idiots, it was a breath of fresh air. Expand

While Prometheus was all about exploring creation, man's complex relationship with it, and the possibility of a creator, this sequel to it uses Ridley Scott's fantastic Xenomorph creation to take the series more back to it's horror rootsWhile Prometheus was all about exploring creation, man's complex relationship with it, and the possibility of a creator, this sequel to it uses Ridley Scott's fantastic Xenomorph creation to take the series more back to it's horror roots while still asking some philosophical questions along the way. The themes this time are still centered around creation, but the focus is more on human error. The fallacy of our ways. The dangers of our constant quest for progress can bring. Even some creator vs the created tension as well. The best part of all though is that serves as a return to form for the Alien series, bringing the menacing Xenomorph back into our lives.

Scott wastes little time in letting the blood flow. There are plenty of brutal kills and the usage of gore is so excessive that it reaches B-rated, schlocky levels of fun. Scott once again gives us the total experience of a slasher film set in space. His scenes of grander destruction are gorgeous. Ridley Scott proves once again to be one of the masters of the science-fiction genre. His immaculately crafted plot and beautifully created scenery are incredible. The latter proving to be the right amounts of alien and historic in appearance.

The movie also served to increase my appreciation for Michael Fassbender. His dual performance here is nothing short of incredible as he is portraying almost two completely different individuals. Both of whom are most well-written in the movie. For a movie already strong in plot, action, and character it is amazing just how much Fassbender does to bolster all of it's strengths and abilities. He takes things to another level and the movie goes to show his outstanding ability as an actor. He's not the only notable person onscreen though. While everyone else is pretty much playing the standard character roles one would expect in this kind of movie, there is Danny McBride really stepping out of his comedic comfort zone in favor of a surprisingly emotional performance. After Fassbender he is the next best person onscreen.

Covenant proves to be a welcome return to form Ridley Scott and the Alien series he created. It builds on the groundwork laid by Prometheus, leading to much better results and continues the story of it masterfully. This is the Alien prequel we've been waiting for. If the writing has one flaw it's that the big twist at the end is totally predictable. I would also say that the big finale relies a bit too much on action over horror, but overall those complaints are minor in comparison to everything else going on. Bloody good fun and surprisingly deep to boot, Alien: Covenant is not to be missed, longtime Alien fans or newcomers alike.

Sure, it might not be Alien or Aliens, but it sure as hell is much better than Alien 3, Prometheus or Part 4.
I loved how Scott made everything look modern, yet still retained the same style as in Alien or Aliens. Like the computers, the design of the ships, the sounds of the computers, even the mentality of the people were straight from the 70s or 80s.

I really am excited for the next movie.

While I enjoyed Prometheus in all of its cryptic and philosophical glory, I still desired more time visually spent on the alien creatures themselves, and let me tell you when they are sparingly shown in Covenant they are truly stunning and absolutely vicious to the point of extreme gore and utter chaos. This aspect however seemed to detract Ridley Scott's original Engineer/creator/Shaw plot line into oblivion as it was extremely glossed over rather quickly and unexplained which was a huge let down for me. If this would've added about 45 min of backstory and extra footage surrounding those gaping questions it could've been a masterpiece though it was still excellent. I especially was left a bit underwhelmed with Shaw's mysterious fate. Apparently their stories aren't finished according to Scott. Either way the plotting of Covenant still rolled on fine with David the android becoming even more insane and villainous with his experimentation and intentions. Michael Fassbender's brilliant double roles as David/Walter steal the show as he did in Prometheus with utter captivation and enthralling characterization. The thing that strikes me the most about Covenant was its magnificent visuals throughout with the scenery, set pieces, and aliens. Some of the best cgi I've ever seen in film as well which these days can be hit or miss. Overall this is another amazing entry into the Alien franchise that i believe has been truly reborn with Prometheus and now Covenant and will hopefully continue soon. Expand

It had this amazing rising tension the whole way and every time the alien made an appearance, it was shocking and nerve-wrecking. What steals the show though, is the new territory the movie explores besides the aliens themselves. It creates a philosophical aspect that stays with you even after the movie is over. Even better, we learn more about the Alien/Prometheus universe and also get some previous mysteries and questions answered. The ending also gives us something to ponder till the next sequel. Expand

I thought it was really bold and hugely weird for a "blockbuster". I really don't uderstand the picking holes that is so de rigueur these days. It was so much better than Prometheus, which I really liked despite it's flaws (big improvement on that - be assured). Beautiful to look at, great if slightly drawn characters (it's a horror film), an absolutely sublime performance by Fassbender, and a terrifying sense of escalating doom. It features some of the most disturbing scenes in horror history. I won't spoil these, except to mention they involve the implications of what a certain android has been up to for the last 10 years, and what happens...after that ending! Exquisitely dark and almost Lovecraftian... it leaves a lot to the imagination and that's what I love it so. It's not a traditional horror film and slows down to become something different, and in my opinion better in the second half. If you liked Prometheus you're going to love this. It is Prometheus's child, so if you didn't like the style of that (rather than the execution) it may not be for you) The (original) Alien bits were the weakest bits in my opinion. This was more like a gothic horror in space, and lets face it Ridley only put the Alien in, due to the backlash against "it" not being in last film. He has said repeatedly he thought it was "cooked", and that was a good call. However, this is turning into something far more interesting. I think, if you want an Alien(s) remake, with the minimalism and realism of the space trucking original rather than impressionistic dark romanticism, you'll be dissapointed. But I am not that man. Disclaimer: I'm a long-time Alien series fan. It's my #1 favourite movie series to date. Yes, including Alien 3 & Resurrection. Does NOT include Alien Vs Predator!

Alien: Covenant does not disappoint. It ties into Prometheus very well and then is peppered with 1979's Alien to bring in some scares and action. The ideas introduced in Prometheus are expounded upon in Covenant through David/Walter. One now needs to ask is "Alien" the creature or really the humanesque AI being developed by Weyland? Ridley Scott shot a beautifully filmed sci-fi epic that kept me enthralled from minute 1 to the end. The only thing lacking now, with Prometheus & Covenant, is there is no character that grabs the audience like Sigourney Weaver's Ripley did back in the Alien franchise heyday. Nonetheless, Covenant deserves to be seen on the big screen and ignore the negative reviews on IMDB (and here) by the wannabe salty critics. Looking forward to the next chapter which Scott said he'd be starting to film in 14 months time.

It includes some thoughtful questionsLike Alien and Prometheus, this film focuses on the tragic outcome of a space expedition. In many ways, views should know precisely what to expect from this film: it's a hybrid of Prometheus and Alien. It includes some thoughtful questions about life and finding meaning as well as alien monsters and action. Although every Alien film has included horror aspects, this film seemed to emphasize the horror atmosphere and tone more than previous movies. I felt that it balances and continues the themes of Prometheus and Alien well, while also having a unique identity.

Characters: Strong acting and writing. This is a story about a group of people instead of a story about one person. Think about the difference between Alien and Aliens - the first was about a group and the second was about one character who had interactions with a group. People who tried to focus on a single protagonist in this film seem to be disappointed.

Story: Many elements of the story will be familiar to viewers. There are some new twists, but for the most part you'll know what to expect if you're aware of this genre. Still, the story is satisfying and contributes to the larger Alien universe while also include a few shocking moments.

Sound/Visual effects: The more you're aware of the music of Prometheus and Alien, the more you'll enjoy this soundtrack. The music is largely derived from those previous films and is appropriately evocative. The visual design and effects were breathtaking, I saw no problems.

Final thoughts: I highly recommend this movie if you like sci-fi, horror, or both. Particularly if you are a fan or Prometheus or Alien, this is a must-see. In my opinion, the Alien movies typically struggle in two places: the opening, which can go on far too long without action, and the ending, which can seem too final and lack a feeling of potential continuation. For the first time, I thought that an Alien movie had a strong beginning, middle, and ending. This movie expertly expands on the idea of what an Alien is and what can be done in the franchise.

Ridley Scott is a legendary director, making this film intense and scary, and sometimes this movie did without music. The camera work is absolute stunning, and the acting fits the tone of the movie so well. Surprisingly, the recent "Alien" film is very realistic to what the reaction of people would be if they were on a ship in space, and found Alien life. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In 1979, Alien was the unintended problem of being peace that was because of no problem; in 2017, Alien Covenant is about the dynamic of peace that's because no problem. Naturally, peace is the goal of the universe, but peace being at the expense of the idea that its anti was possible seems to be the underlying meaning of Alien Covenant, an effective allegory about the paradox of the anti destroying itself so that the self is protected. At a deeper level, the sequel to Prometheus tells a very well-designed story about the beauty of an original replication. David manages to create the xenomorphs, in the process reflecting himself onto his creation, but the process is also just a replication of an ancient process that was started by the Engineers; ergo the effort of being an original replication.

Playing Daniels, an obvious allusion to Ripley, Katherine Waterston's true role is to just be a device for David, both metaphorically and literally as the film ends: in the first act, the contrived tension between Daniels and Oram is a metaphor for needless opposition as a reaction to hierarchy (and the film's theme is to attack hierarchy), and yet the irony of this is that the example of needless opposition on display is meant to be attacked, but the source of the paradox is hierarchy.
Alien Covenant is the very sharp, very keen self-awareness of understanding the true nature of paradox.

Original freedom was the mistake of self-awareness. Self-awareness means division, and thus destruction. The next stage being to separate freedom from anti by duplicating absence is also a mistake, because it betrays the meaning of absence. The solution, and the "probable" allegory of Alien Covenant is that the absence of discrepancy means to replicate freedom being separated from anti. Anti is need, and freedom not being need is the same as freedom anti being anti. Anti being anti is anti, because just being anti is the possibility of no anti, therefore it seems that to actually defeat hostility, an proactive sense of hostility is needed, which makes sense relative to the storytelling of Alien Covenant.

Many characters in the film have a theme, including Upworth and Ricks: in light of the movie's philosophy that the universe needs hostility, what's remarkable about the duo of Upworth and Ricks is that though they spend the vast majority of the film being sources of reason, their deaths at the very end of the story are extremely clichéd and trope-like. The sources of reason become sources of amusement and traditionalism, and yet the parallel is meant to be revolutionary!

When it comes to Elizabeth Shaw, and her final fate, Alien Covenant is simply being an exploitative user of Prometheus while not giving anything back in return: but this is okay, because David's story about revolution and attacking hierarchy is a worthwhile substitute for Elizabeth Shaw's story post-Prometheus. Better yet, the death and type of death of Elizabeth Shaw represents the intelligence of self-awareness being a false bias.

All in all, Alien Covenant is an impressive sequel considering its generic make-up and story concept

Characters were likable albeit your typical bad decision making fodder. Effects were great with the exception of some CGI shots. To me it had just about the right amount of drama/plot to action ratio. I dont really understand the hate from many reviewers. There are gaps in plot and timeline issues when put side by side with other alien movies but lets be honest its an Aliens movie and they have muddled up the plot up over the years. This movie does a decent enough job of cleaning up the mess but still leaves many questions in the end. I had fun watching it and as a fan look forward to more. Its I'd say the third best Alien film. Humans are fallable, but we have brilliance. We create synthetic beings(androids). We make them to look and act just like us in the realest ways. We make them to be perfect, but we imbue androids with experiences that are examples of our worst traits. A creation will wish to mimic its creator. David, like humans in history, razes an entire society of people, then seeks to make himself god-like by trying to make something more indestructible than him. But David is flawed. Humans on the ship Covenant are basically missionaries posed as colonists. They bring all these things from their human lives to set upon a world they are not sure is inhabited already. What they know is that it is in the "habitable zone" and might be a new home for humans. We mythicize creation with pretension only because we so strongly dislike aspects of ourselves as humans that we forever wish to change. Redo. We wish to go back to "the Garden" and rewrite things. Alien:Covenant is a great film. It packs in quite a bit into 2hrs. Watch the film "Prometheus" again, and perhaps you will understand that Alien:Covenant is about the destruction wrought after humans perhaps finding out that we were not the prodigious result of evolution, all the while trying to extend our chaotic rule of peace, violence, simplicity, and complexity. The reasons why we are imperfect. Ridley Scott picked out great actors in Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Amy Seimeitz, and Dennis McBride. Fassbender was awesome in his dual role of David and Walter and i was really surprised by Danny McBride I went into the film not really expecting much from him but he shone in a serious role and hope to see him do more. Waterson holds her own on screen and i found her likeable enough as the tough female lead we see in Alien films. I particularly liked Carmen Ejogo's character of Karine and was disappointed that her role wasn't larger. Overall i think this was a solid entry into the Alien franchise and i'm hopeful for the future of the series.

OnRidley Scott has done a great job in directing his latest film, which I consider to be a perfect combination of action and horror. The cast of actors is outstanding, especially Michael Fassbender, who develops his role in a masterly way. On the other hand, the appearance of the aliens, their structure and evolution are perfect; You can see the work that was dedicated to them, because they were not completely created by computer so that they did not suffer a loss of realism. Likewise, Covenant also has its bad points: nobody can believe the naivete of the characters ( just in minutes they researched absolutely everything about the planet, and also they do not even take any preventive measures when they arrive). Some characters stand out because of their lack of depth, such as the case of Tenessee, which I consider a great character that unfortunately was wasted. Also, there are others that you will not care what the future holds for them, if they survived or not.
In summary, I found a great movie that manages to entertain (even if you are not a fan and have not seen the previous ones) with its incredible effects and talented actors. 100% recommendable.

I had an exclusive sitting, the only one in the theater to my surprise. I just loved this movie, it was about time they went back to the original Alien format. I loved the ending.

An excellent, boiled down, Alien fiesta. I don’t understand the hate. This is everything I love about the Alien franchise.

This is the kind of perfectly-crafted horror film that pulls you in and then dares you to look away as the tension continues to build right until the final, unbearable moments. Yes, script/dialogue, plot, and plausibility could all be tighter, but in general this was a great addition to the Alien franchise. But I doubt at 80yo Ridley Scott will be directing any further installments. I wonder who will take it from here...

A great installment in the Alien franchise. It had great characters, a great script, and plenty of blood. I am glad special effects have come far enough to give us the Alien we deserve.

Awesome. A thoroughly satisfying, if unpleasant film. Shows you all the expanded universe the previous movie hinted at, mixed with all that was great about the original alien movies.

The film is in some ways very much like other aliens films in terms of characters getting picked off 1 by 1 etc., but the tone and feeling is just like any other aliens film, and entertains as such, mixed in with a good enough amount of story to keep you wondering. This is a movie, made by writers....they do not have the answers to the universe...no idea what some people are expecting out of an aliens movie. It entertains and also presents some questions, and balances that tension throughout. I would say it was about as good as Prometheus, not as good as the two originals, and overall another solid sequel/prequel. Expand

Prometheus was a confusing mess, and this movie is trying to get back on track, it just needs less robo-bros. It was creepy...
But like in the comics, it should get cool. Alien hybrids and breeding are being introduced.
I suggest looking at the comics. It's only once the hybrids are introduced (on a major scale) that things get really interesting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I saw Alien Covenant last week. Even though I wasn`t a big fan of Prometheus (thought that it was okay), I was still excited for Covenant, and I walked out of the theater satisfied. I thought that it was a great movie.
Going into Alien Covenant, I was excited as it would return the franchise to its horror routes and bring back the Xenomorphs, along with a new monster (Neomorph) and answers questions about the iconic movie monster.

I left the theater satisfied, but wanting more (in a good way). It is definitely the best Alien movie since Aliens, while still having a few issues (no movie is perfect :D).

Plot: The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy (called Origae-6), discovers another planet which they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

The Great:

The Xenomorph. It looked amazing, similar to the original Giger design, but still a bit different when it came to its movement and its brutality. The cargo ship sequence was a big highlight, and the shower scene was actually pretty good and scary (surprisingly O_o). Another great sequence was the final one of Daniels and Tennessee hunting the Xeno across the ship, with Walter (David in disguise) helping them by tracking it and closing/opening airlocks. I have heard complains about the CG on the Xeno, but I think it looks great. The beast is definitely NOT cooked.

The Neomorph is a fantastic new addition to the franchise. It's a bit smaller then the normal Xeno, but faster and more brutal. Some of the goriest death scenes in the movie came from them. The backburster is very gory, disgusting (in a good way). It also has a fantastic scene with David (Michael Fassbender), where it reacts calm to him and doesn't attack, before Oram shows up and kills it, pissing David off (which leads to Oram get facehugged).

The creature designs and creature effects were great (except for one's effect). I am happy that H. R. Giger is credited for the creature designs at the beginning of the end credits.

Most of the characters and performances were great. I cared more about the characters in Covenant then I did for the characters in Prometheus. The best characters were Tennessee (Danny Mcbride), Walter/David (Michael Fassbender) and Daniels (Katherine Waterston).

Every scene with David and Walter. Their scenes (and how David is trying to get Walter to join him before disabling him, and taking his place on the Covenant) are the most fascinating scenes in the movie.

The Covenant ship and its hardware and technology were as great as they were in Prometheus, despite still being way more advanced then the tech in the original Alien.

The ending while predictable when it came to the reveal that Walter was David in disguise after they left the Engineer city, was still good and creepy, with David planting two Facehugger embryos along with the other (around) 1000 human embryos (probably to use the colonist as hosts to continue his experiments), and sending a final message from the Covenant as Walter before continuing on its journey to Origae-6.

The cinematography, the locations and the effects were beautiful (duh). No one directs sci-fi movies like Ridley Scott.

The Not So Great:

While I did care about most of the characters, they are complete idiots (even though I thought they were less idiotic then the ones in Prometheus, that doesn't say much). They walk around in a newly discovered alien world with no protective gear (not even hazard suits), some touch stuff that causes disaster, they trust a complete stranger and some of them separate from the main group when they know a deadly alien creature could show up anytime (and then they get killed).

The CG on the Neomorph backburster when it is no longer covered in blood looked average.

I could see the twist at the end (where Walter is actually David) coming from a mile away (though it was still a good ending).

The growing time from a chestburster to a full grown Xeno was really fast and reminded me of the AVP movies (even the time for a Facehugger to impregnate someone was really fast). The second Xeno (the one at the end of the movie) grew even way faster then the one from earlier.

The tone changes drastically some times.

Overall, Alien Covenant is a satisfying movie that returns the Alien franchise back to its horror routes, yet still having some of the action elements from Aliens. Most of the characters were great, though some were clearly only there to killed by alien monsters. The effects and cinematography were fantastic and it was a lot of fun. I can't wait to see where the story goes on from here and how it all ties into the original Alien movie from 1979.

I though that it was better then Prometheus, and it is my third favorite movie in the Alien franchise.

It makes up for this in true sci-fi thought provoking grandeur! And utterly menacing and depressing darkness and misery!

This is pretty magnificent and Prometheus makes sense as part of the theme even if the plot was a bit 'holey'.

2 points deducted because something visceral seems to be lost here, the movies are great ideas but the medium seems to have taken a back seat.

It's not as well packaged and inspiring as its predecessor Prometheus, but Alien: Covenant has all the same hallmarks of this new universe Ridley Scott has created. The soundtrack is very evocative, worth listening to on its own. Spores is a stand out and will make your hairs stand on end. The plot and flow of the movie is a bit clumsy and I think this has a lot to do with a poorly conceived script, however the overarching story holds up. The cast could have done with one or two different actors but overall serves the movie well. Michael Fassbender does a good job of being David. I wish only that we got that element of horror and dread a bit more. With the right script I'm sure Ridley Scott can do anything. Comparing this to the original Alien, and having gone back and watched all the original films, I think the two new movies have already gone far above and beyond what we originally saw in those films from a story-telling and world-building standpoint and it would be foolish to think the new films are somehow inferior. Prometheus and Alien: Covenant represent a much more evocative future for the universe Alien is set. As I said all they need is a good script. Prometheus set the bar, Alien Covenant reaches it at times, let's have a third instalment that totally blows our sucks off. Expand

Human characters (maybe except Daniels) - 5/10. And it's not the actors' fault. Prometheus was definitely better - the humans were so self-centered, oblivious, and taking the android's obedience for granted that you could actually feel the android's anger (or disgust). And yet, for example, Idris Elba's character was memorable.

But in Alien: Covenant, humans are meat. Their decisions are as stupid as if they starred in a horror movie (well they kind of do). They split up and so on. Sometimes they show they are a bit more than stock characters, but rarely. Although you can feel their desperation, and you feel sorry for them. If you want a movie that leaves you happy or satisfied, well, pick another movie.

You can see quite a range of the Alien variants. One, which appears just for a short time, seemed as scary as the original creature. But others just dilute the Alien "brand".

And when the original creature appears, it's long after Aliens-style firefights, and there is not much suspense. There is more gore than fear. Don't let advertising fool you into thinking the Alien is the star of the movie. It's much less scary than you'd expect. The series is not about aliens anymore; it's about androids.

What can I say: it's dark, it's unsettling, there is no real (human) hero, characters act illogically... and I watched it twice. And it was worth it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would have gave it **** if I didn't see the twist coming a mile away. Otherwise Alien: Covenant is the best since Alien and Aliens. I just felt like Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) got the Hicks and Newt Alien 3 treatment. David (Michael Fassbender) proves here that he's the key character of these movies. We don't root for people to survive though just for them to die off screen. Who says Scott won't do that again with the 3rd film.
I enjoyed most the movie but a lot of people die because they were stupid. When some creepy Android says "follow me, I want to show you something." You don't goespecially if that creepy Android is David. So I felt like their were some horror cliches. Especially with "the everything is fine...oh wait no it's not!" typical horror movie ending. I am not exactly defending why Alien: Covenant is one of the best though. The film is engaging and interesting during it's slow moments. I enjoyed learning more of why David does what he does.
I like that he actually says "curiosity killed the cat!" Since that's what I was thinking about him. His curiosity is very dangerous. The film does skip the whole "who created us ?" plot of Prometheus. However, David is the creator these films is interested in. It's about creation. Not ours though. The xenomorphs....
I find that intriguing and is why my Thumb is up.
