Shows its PS2 origins in the graphics but a fun and atmospheric shooter.

Overall - disappointing. What could have been exceptional is undone by too many sloppy elements that fail to take advantage of the Xbox's capabilities. It's appalling - no variety at all. Again, ruins the atmosphere. The rag doll AI is annoying. And why do so many games resort to horror elements? V annoying - Dredd comics rarely resort to horror. The lawenforcer gun is a great idea - the different settings etc - yet they NEVER all get used. The ricochet bullet is NEVER used throughout. The environment is also repetitive and not interactive - the posters and signs are the same throughout - BORING! The good - the cityscape backgrounds look exceptional. It's a poor man's Halo/Doom, but it's still entertaining and challenging enough to be worth a play. Expand

Dredd versus Death is an enjoyable co-op experience but I can't help but feel it would lose a lot if played purely as a single player. The graphics aren't exactly amazing (and look a bit dated) but they do give a feeling of being in a massive Mega City and are fairly true to the designs in 2000AD. As I mentioned before, it's a good co-op game and has plenty to unlock in it, Dredd versus Death is an enjoyable co-op experience but I can't help but feel it would lose a lot if played purely as a single player. If you're a big nerd, like me, in terms of both 2000AD and videogames, it's a suitable match. Expand

A great shooter with sharp graphics, cool environments, and fun gameplay but not a lot of polish. I have no prior history with the Judge Dredd comics or movies, and really just decided to pick this up on a whim. I had a lot of fun with it, yes it's flawed but manages to have enough charm and it's self aware humor to make me forgive it. I had a lot of fun with it, yes it's flawed but manages to have enough charm and it's self aware humor to make me forgive it. The main problem with the game is that it's glitchy, mostly during the boss fights which will cause you to have to reload the checkpoint because either you or the boss got stuck in the environment. It's also pretty short. Outside of the campaign (which can be played with a friend) there is local multiplayer and a arcade mode which you can play to unlock cheat codes. If your looking for a shooter that does something new you might want to check this out. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Bleeding heart liberals...". The very first moments of gameplay start with exactly those words. Judge Dredd in all his excellence! Great game too. Has a very early 2000s-futuristic atmosphere and great early 2000s sound in the music department. It's the kind of excellent soundtrack that you will constantly notice playing. The game even tells you in the credits where you can buy the soundtrack. If you let the main menu be idle for a while, you're also treated to a gameplay trailer, which adds to the nostalgia, showing you a time when video game trailers focused on the actual gameplay.

When the gameplay starts, you're immediately treated to great quotes by Judge Dredd and some great early 2000s beats in the musical department taking place in the background. You'll go on to fight a wide variety of enemies, like humans, vampires, zombies and more. The level variety is as wide as the enemy variety. It's the kind of game I could just play for hours and still not want to stop. The combat is very satisfying too. And some funny moments to be had with the ragdoll physics and rare cases of enemies killing each other. I had an enemy with a grenade launcher kill himself and take out his whole team too in the process. Instantly cleared the whole area for me. I've never seen such an effective suicide in a game before.

Great extras too after you finish the story mode. Playing through the extras will also unlock cheats. It's such a great feeling to unlock all the stuff in a game. And everything is in the game! No need to pay extra! Makes a game feel so good. Not having to use your wallet to wade through greedy companies for extra content and instead unlock stuff by just having fun. Crazy!

A very satisfying and fun game with a great atmosphere and soundtrack!

Gets the gunplay and gruff attitude right, but beneath the badge, it's simply, well, not unlike most first-person shooters. [May 2004, p.81]

Your main objective is the bane of the modern FPS: follow a little blue arrow while shooting things, with the odd escort or protect responsibility thrown in to make you turn around occasionally. It's average justice dished out to the licence, but nothing more. [Christmas 2003, p.121]

This hard work, however, is denigrated by the repetition of character models throughout the entire game.
