    Father of first-person shooter games

    Incredible campaign, lots of twists, very pleasant experience, and a lot of nostalgia, I played when I was a kid and I went back to playing for the Master Chief Collection

    Well the level design is a bit weird, felt like bungie just copy pasted the first few levels for the second half of the game but other elements of Halo 1 kick ass. The soundtrack is fantastic and capable of playing with moods and emotions. The characters are one-dimensional but they are all vital for the story, the story itself is so fun.     In 2001, Xbox intoduced Halo, one of the most revolutionary fps games ever made or was it? Halo wasn't as impactful as Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 is a bit richer in experience but Halo brought a 10-year-old genre to a whole new type of players, i never owned an xbox but i played Halo on xbox and for console players, Halo was beyond Heaven. Its cinematic feeling, satisfying gameplayIn 2001, Xbox intoduced Halo, one of the most revolutionary fps games ever made or was it? Halo wasn't as impactful as Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 is a bit richer in experience but Halo brought a 10-year-old genre to a whole new type of players, i never owned an xbox but i played Halo on xbox and for console players, Halo was beyond Heaven. Its cinematic feeling, satisfying gameplay (although a bit simple), online multiplayer and beautiful graphics definitely guaranteed a fantastic experience.
    Halo's level design was a bit lazy, it wasn't that much of a concern since CE was the most advanced shooter in the market back in the day but nowadays it can feel a bit repetitive and that's my only problem with Halo. More varied level design could have made Halo a more memorable journey but Halo did its job pretty well. Halo was the next step in the industry, which was surpassed by Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 was surpassed itself three years later by Halo 3.    … Expand

    i mean, this game is one of the few that i would call an "epic masterpiece" because it started off the halo series and also was probably the best halo to come out because it is simple unlike halo 5 and has an enjoyable story unlike halo 5 and every weapon in the sandbox has a specific use unlike halo 5.

    10/10 halo experience epic masterpiece

    Halo Combat Evolved is known to establish the first-person shooter genre on video game cosnoles. I didn't play the game in 2001 but i experienced some of the levels the most interesting one for me was assault on the control room. Sometimes the level design works and other times it doesn't, after assault on the control room, 343 guilty spark started really interesting but after you go inside the structure the level just goes downhill after that. The decline in quality in the second half resulted in better presentation and cutscenes. The game had some spawn problems in some places but normally everything played out perfectly. The Story is simple but well-written and expertly-directed. Halo's biggest strength is the music, the adaptive music in halo makes the experience more powerful and immersive than any other shooter in the market. The voice acting is top-notch amd the graphics are still impressive, i like the simplicity of them. The anniversary graphics are an eye sore. What made Half-Life so exciting was the simple premise yet the complex narration. Halo benefits from that as well, Halo tells an epic meaningful sci-fi story dynamically. If you haven't played Halo i highly recommend playing it, i played the steam version of halo but with the original graphics and i ran into no bugs or glitches.… Expand

    I am reviewing this in 2021, so I am basing my review not only on the game itself, but how it holds up years later.

    It is still the revolutionary shooter it is acclaimed to be, however there are a two issues that really bring its score down. First, the driving is terrible, warthog handling specifically is absolute garbage, I don't see how anyone settled for that. Pretty annoying the final    I am reviewing this in 2021, so I am basing my review not only on the game itself, but how it holds up years later.

    It is still the revolutionary shooter it is acclaimed to be, however there are a two issues that really bring its score down. Pretty annoying the final missions is an intense escape but I'm detached because the DRIVING SUCKS. This was a real deal breaker, Secondly, the checkpoints are inconsistent which is frustrating, sometimes I'd die in similar place 4 times and would respawn anywhere near the first 3 times, and if that's because the game is taking pity then I don't like that either, consistency is key.

    Overall though, fun and brilliant shooter that changed the game, my first completed halo. I hope when I play through the rest there have been some improvements    … Expand

    Originally i gave this game a 10 but to be honest, Halo was never a masterpiece.
    It's one of the most overrated shooters in the history but that doesn't mean it's not fun to play because Halo's gameplay will suck you ib.
    The story is really simple and isn't that much complex, there might be twist here and there but it's kind of forgettable. Halo's best offering is direction and presentation.

    Meu jogo favorito, incrível como jogar ele hoje em dia continua super prazeroso graças a jogabilidade muito evoluída que revolucionou os FPS, além da trilha sonora e história perfeita.

    Não tem como, esse jogo é bom em tudo e pra mim sempre será o melhor Halo já feito até hoje

    One of my favorite games! The Weapon Sandbox is perfect no weapons overlaps another weapon's purpose. Enemies are very fun to fight and this game is definitely worth multiple playthroughs

It has a very interesting story with an unexpected plot twist, wide open areas, great weapon sandbox, good graphics for its time, legendary music, perfect difficulty and fun vehicles. Oh and a quick reminder, you MUST play this with a friend. It's the perfect way to make them fall in love with this franchise.
    Multiplayer is meh tho. Weapons are very poorly    10/10.

Each weapon is viable on every difficulty and for the first game to implement the 2 weapon system it worked perfectly as each weapon had a role for example plasma will burn shields faster while bullets do more damage to flesh.Halo CE is a masterpiece and aged like fine wine. Furthermore the AI is far superior to most new FPS games as they are fair but smart and you learn to exploit their weaknesses as you pay through the game, there is very little bs even on legendary and most of the times you die it will be your fault not unfair AI. The balancing is perfect. As for the story, its good but quite slow as its setting up the rest of the franchise but conveys the theme of mystery extremely well and the introduction of the flood on 343 Guilty spark is perfect. Bungie did a great way at creating a mysterious atmosphere and you are always left with questions in each mission making you want to learn more. The characters are good, particularly Chief, Cortana and Keyes. My personal favourite missions are Silent Cartographer, Two Betrayals and The Maw. Only problem with the campaign is some of the levels are too repetitive and enclosed but this can be forgiven as it came out in 2001.
    I havent played too much of the multiplayer but from what i have played the maps are great and extremely unique and it's a lot of fun.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The original. It's crazy how much this game still holds up and how ahead of it's time it truly was. Let's see why that is.

    Its story is not really that special. It has two things going for it: the characters and the Flood. The characters of Halo are primarily Chief and Cortana with Guilty Spark becoming prominent around the halfway point. Chief and Cortana have a great dynamic, the classic witty and stoic combination. The Flood is a great twist. The whole time we've spent on the ring it's been fighting the Covenant and now we get introduced to something far worse than the Covenant. This further increases the tension as you now have two threats to deal with. The story is good and presented well.

    The campaigns gameplay is amazing. Every gun, every vehicle, every enemy has a purpose. Nothing feels redundant or useless. The level design is great, but the repeated layouts are tedious. This is my biggest problem with the campaign going through the same room five times does not keep me engage, it make me wanna gouge out my eyes. I understand development wise why this happened but that doesn't excuse it. Despite that glaring flaw, the gameplay is fun and engaging.

    The multiplayer is interesting. Combat Evolved has a very distinct multiplayer from the rest of the series, and I'm spilt on whether or not I like it. It's fun, don't get me wrong but compared to something like Halo 3 or Reach? I think it's uniqueness will keep me coming back to it, because there isn't really anything else like it, but I don't think it's even close to the best in the series.

    Overall, this game is amazing. Great story, gameplay and multiplayer. There's a reason why Xbox and Halo go together and why Halo is a franchise. This is a great game and will go down is history as one of the best FPS games (at least on console).    … Expand

    A game that honestly should have no introduction. This game changed FPS games on console with effects still seen today in it's campaign and multiplayer. What an insane launch title, Xbox would not be the same without the Chief.

    To this day I'm thankful for the lanhouse dude that showed me this game. Fell in love, the lore. The writing, the characters, the sounds and music. The plasma grenades and needler were jaw dropping first time I got to see them in action. The gameplay is similar to other FPSs of the time, but the guns and everything else make it feel like something out of this world.

    It's a classic. And the hit game from everyone's childhood. Despite it's old graphics and clunky physics Halo Combat Evolved remains as the best game in the series, thanks to it's fantastic story and twist, perfect combat and difficulty, and it's timeless multiplayer.

Jogo revolucionário no gênero fps, da para ver que antes de 2001 não havia nada igual, sem contar que é muito divertido, no meu ponto de vista, superior ao seu antecessor na ordem cronológica, você ter que usar certa arma para counterar tal inimigo é incrível, a Inteligência Artificial é melhor que muitos jogos de hoje em dia. Os conflitos do jogo são interessante, e te faz ter vontade de jogar mais, meu problema com o jogo é o fato de dirigir ser extremamente desgostante e horrível de controlar, e ter aquelas missões insuportáveis de ficar matando uma onda de mini-aliens por uns 10 minutos seguidos sem parar, parece que foi jogado como um enchimento sem motivo.     Halo Combat Evolved not only is a great game, but it also legitimized Microsoft as a gaming brand. Halo brought to the table an intense story, solid multiplayer, packed with fun and fast shooting.
    The game starts almost immediately with closed combat action, where there are lots of cover spots. This helps the player to get the hands-on the first kills, while also not being too punishing    Halo Combat Evolved not only is a great game, but it also legitimized Microsoft as a gaming brand. Halo brought to the table an intense story, solid multiplayer, packed with fun and fast shooting.
    The game starts almost immediately with closed combat action, where there are lots of cover spots. This helps the player to get the hands-on the first kills, while also not being too punishing and difficult. After landing in the Halo we can appreciate the incredible graphics and setting. The enemies of Halo also look spectacular, from the goofy Grunts to the threatening Sangheili's, the threats in Halo are various and equipped with various weapons, grenades, and even power weapons, like a one-shot sword.
    Perhaps one of the most incredible things about the enemies in Halo it's the AI. At heroic or legendary difficulties, the enemies will not only deal more damage and have more hp, but they will also coordinate to flank while you are taking cover, or rush you when you are low on shields. The AI of enemies in Halo is so good, that 20 years later, the enemy's movements of Halo Infinite feel exactly the same. Bungie developer also did a great job with the music, in fact since the start of the game we are welcomed by an almost religious choir in the menu, and for the rest of the game, we have intense music in fights, alternated with more calm and gentle one during lore related dialogues.
    My only complaint with the game it's the health bar which only refills after finding health packs (which are very rare) or at the end of the level, leaving the player to only count on the shields for most of the game. Also, the weapons feel unbalanced: the handgun feels way too powerful compared to the assault rifle which becomes useless in the late game.
    Halo Combat Evolved it's intense, precise and fun! The first XBOX became a must-buy for this game, and not the other way around like it usually is!

    The soundtrack is filled with classics. shooting is fun. The deferent maps feel great although they are used repetitively.

Developed by bunngie and published by Xbox game studios this game started one of the best (if not the best) first person shooter franchises. Although benefiting from a great story, amazing characters and top tier gameplay the level design has some down parts like repeating level design or bad enemy placement but all that can be put aside by all the great levels like the silent cartographer and the ironicly named Halo. To sum it up this game is a great start to the sixth generation, a blast to play and a great story it suffers from repetitive level design and less than stellar enemy placement and is one of the most beloved Xbox games of all time and will continue to be.… Expand

Irresponsible parenting aside, I love this game with all my heart, it undoubtedly has shaped who I am and offers a lot of fond memories I doubt I'll ever forget. The original trilogy of the Halo games, along with its spin-offs are as close to the perfectOne of the first games I ever played, I'm not kidding when I said I used to play this game with my father when I was around 3 years old. Irresponsible parenting aside, I love this game with all my heart, it undoubtedly has shaped who I am and offers a lot of fond memories I doubt I'll ever forget. The original trilogy of the Halo games, along with its spin-offs are as close to the perfect game series I dare to name. I only wish 343 recognized what they owned when making the new games. Despite this, even the tarnish the likes Halo 5 and Infinite has left on the series is not enough to dent to legacy this game has created.     The game that started the massive franchise it is today. Halo was such a great game, that I still play it today! My brother and I used to play the campaign and we would often invite friends over with Halo to have LAN parties. I tell ya those were some great times. The gameplay, storyline and multiplayer was so good.

    I played it with a friends in local co-op. We sent a couple of night on it and it was fun, not too much challenging and refreshing. A good one.

    I didn't play much of the multiplayer, but the campaign was amazing with an action and horror aspect mixed into it.

    The game that started it all. Halo created a fantastic franchise that held strong for many years for Xbox players. It revolutionized first person shooters. While it is not as good as some of its successors, it deserves to get credit for what it created. Definitely recommend playing through this game, along with the others on Halo: The Master Chief Collection

    Halo CE kind of kicked off the start of an era, begging and end of games really.
    The world, the guns, the gameplay, the multiplayer, everything kind of started with this insane game.

    Its sad to see what the franchise became today, but this was a great game.

    Joya, el que comenzó todo, por poquito este juego se convierte en exclusivo de Apple, gracias Microsoft por rescatar a Bungie y traer al que empezó una de las mejores sagas en la historia de los shooters en primera persona, una de las joyas del xbox clásico que yo nunca lo tuve pero mi primo si y me da mucha nostalgia. 8.5 mínimo.

    A pinnacle not only for FPS games, but for video games in general. For 2001, it still holds as a game worth playing in 2022, and split-screen campaign and multiplayer is always amusing. However, this is the version worth playing, don't bother with MCC or Anniversary edition. If you got a functioning O.G. Xbox, find yourself a second-hand copy of it, and borrow your grandfather's old CRTA pinnacle not only for FPS games, but for video games in general.     Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary - um dos melhores e mais divertidos FPS que já joguei. Apesar da história não ser muito cativante, todo o resto envelheceu como vinho. A jogabilidade é muito boa; a trilha sonora também; a dublagem (em inglês porque não tem em português) não é ruim mas também não é a melhor coisa do mundo; a variedade de inimigos e armas é bem grande para um jogo antigoHalo: Combat Evolved Anniversary - um dos melhores e mais divertidos FPS que já joguei. Apesar da história não ser muito cativante, todo o resto envelheceu como vinho. A jogabilidade é muito boa; a trilha sonora também; a dublagem (em inglês porque não tem em português) não é ruim mas também não é a melhor coisa do mundo; a variedade de inimigos e armas é bem grande para um jogo antigo desse e o protagonista apesar de na maior parte do tempo ser caladão ele tem o seu carisma. É um jogo que não tem pena do jogador, em algum momento ele fica bem difícil e algumas vezes joga inimigos infinitos até você saber o que tem que fazer. É um jogo que eu vou guardar para sempre no meu coração!!

    Although the textures might feel repetitive[-0.3], the level/map designs are beyond ingenious. One more thing I find nice is that the Legendary difficulty is somewhat actually tolerable unlike later Halo games. At least for me, Halo 3/Reach on Legendary is    Uhm...     The sound design is phenomenal; alongside the stellar soundtrack. Quite iconic I'd say!

    The storytelling is alright, but rest of the series does it a little better.

    Several *not* game breaking glitches exist[-0.3]. The most annoying one is: even when you cut the left arm of a certain enemy(which is used for their vicious whip attacks) while it's swinging, its ongoing melee would still land unless that enemy is stunned by your shot registered. THEN it'll be unable to whip again.

    I wasn't willing to comment on multiplayer but why not. In my honest opinion, all the weapons are a bit imbalanced when it comes to on-line experience[-0.4]. Worse still, the skill gap between new people and veteran players is more than massive at this point anyways. Maybe I should 've been born earlier than myself(10/16/2001).

    Overall, just great old game with few flaws. Something very fundamental if you're gonna discuss about FPS or video game history in general.    … Expand

    Game-changing FPS that launched a thousand Xbox sales. Great looking, varied, with cool environments, an intriguing story and genuinely intelligent enemies to battle. Halo: Anniversary for the 360 gives the game a HD facelift making that the better option, but it's still a stone cold classic.

    This is just classic Halo fun. The level design makes it so that every room is really interesting and the weapons are really satisfying to use. The story isnt that interesting and is just a normal Halo story but it doesnt really take anything away from the gameplay. The muliplayer is also so amazing. It invokes so much nostalgia and you could spend hours playing. The music is really goodThis is just classic Halo fun. The graphics are obviously outdated but I found the anniversary edition (part of the Halo Collection on Game Pass) to be a solid remaster for those looking for some nostalgia. I fondly remember playing this as a clueless 9/10 year old during all nighter sleepovers with friends. I’m only slightly surprised at how well it’s aged. Great story and characters, balanced and fair game play, phenomenal maps, and quite solid AI. This game revolutionized the FPS genre and certainly deserves its must play status.… Expand

    Man, for an Xbox launch title in 2001 this game was crazily booming! With an amazing multiplayer, a great story, graphics (while dated) are great and overall, a fantastic start to the Xbox and Master Chief would become one of the biggest games icons in the 2000s.

    Not the best halo game, but still an enjoyable one. Its definitely a little repetitive and suffers from some pacing issues (the library section) but it's still an absolute classic with a fantastic multiplayer.

    this game has so much atmosphere. it will literally consume you. 10/10 amazing and beautiful soundtrack as well that really fits the game.

    It's a classic for a reason. The gunplay holds up well today, allies and enemies are full of character, weapons and vehicles are diverse. Above all it's real strength is presentation, great music, art direction, and voice acting really set it apart.

    A masterpiece of FPS games, Halo brings a memorable soundtrack, a combat that brings difficulty to the player and at the same time provides incredible fun, the franchise may not have maintained the same level in later games, but this is a work cousin.

    Graficos para su epoca: 7/10 texturas de alta resolucion y efectos de shaders muy buenos pero lo malo son los graficos de los soldados y del protagonista ya que los ojos estan en 2D, algunas manos tienen los dedos pegados y las animaciones de bocas parecen del Half-Life.
    Jugabilidad: 10/10 se puede golpear y tirar granadas con un solo boton.

The floaty movement doesn't age perfectly, and getting tapped by a warthog is instant death, however, the campaign is quite incredible, from saving Captain Keyes, to finding the horror of the Flood, to destroying the Halo ring, this game was really good. The multiplayer at the time was only LAN party and splitscreen, that being said, it was still prettyHalo Combat Evolved is really good.
