Star Wars: Bounty Hunter finally blasts on to Xbox with a little polish, but no fundamental changes since 2002. There are better Star Wars games out there, but fans of the franchise will enjoy the ride.

Once again, a port from Aspyr that I'm ambivalent about. On the one hand, I'm delighted to be able to play Star Wars: Bounty Hunter on my Xbox Series. But on the other hand, I'm always thinking about what could have been, I see the potential for even more improvements around every corner.

More than two decades later, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is a tough one to recommend. If you do have fond memories of this game, you might be more forgiving of its dated design and gameplay, but ultimately there are much better Star Wars offerings out there. Aspyr hasn't changed much beyond adding the modern controls and camera, so unless that's a big enough reason for you to return, this might not necessarily be the Bounty Hunter game you’ve been looking for.

Bounty Hunter 2024 didn't float my boat. Sadly, I don't think it will resonate with modern audiences and that is a shame. However, if you love the original, or you adore Star Wars, you will fall for its dated charms. Not a game for me, but you may love to explore this sci-fi world.

If you’re starving for more Star Wars nourishment in videogame form and you haven’t given Star Wars: Bounty Hunter a whirl, there are far worse games that make use of the Star Wars license. It can be a blast to blast around linear levels with Boba Fett and his jetpack while repelling galactic grunts, but no matter how slick the remaster job is, it cannot hide how old this twenty-plus year old game is, and the frustrations inherent within it are too apparent to ignore. So Bounty Hunter isn’t the worst Star Wars outing and the remaster doesn’t do a bad job, but just like the original game, it might be worthwhile for Star Wars geeks to froth over, but it’s otherwise a despairingly middling affair. So go give Jango and go, but this one doesn’t steal the show and it sorta blows.

STAR WARS Bounty Hunter is a competent port of a mediocre title. Aspyr has done its best to make the game look and run as well as it can while modernizing the controls. At $20 it will come down to how nostalgic you’re feeling for one of gaming’s biggest franchises’ more mediocre entries.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is not, nor was it, a good video game, but this loving remaster makes you think of what may still come.
