Return to the vibrant cyberpunk world of Neo-San Francisco from 2064: Read Only Memories, filled with friendly and familiar faces including Jess Meas, the gene-spliced, hybrid lawyer, TOMCAT, the notorious hacker, and Lexi Rivers, former police officer turned private eye.

Take on the role of ES88, a telepath with the ability to delve into memories employed by MINERVA, a powerful organization specializing in neurotechnology and extrasensory projection phenomena. Tasked with tracking down the Golden Butterfly, a naturally gifted psychic on the loose and wreaking havoc through the subconscious minds of Neo-San Francisco, by using the Neurodiver to search the memories in which it hides. Read Only Memories: NEURODIVER's Deep Dive mechanic enables ES88 to identify, manipulate, and unlock information, though overuse can irreparably corrupt her target's memory.

NEURODIVER will introduce new characters, locations, and mechanics, including the ability to dive into and change other characters' memories, as well as overhauled art and an unsolved case to crack with multiple endings.

Read Only Memories: NEURODIVER starts out strong with an interesting cyberpunk narrative that had me intrigued with its cast of unique characters, but with a short runtime of around four to five hours, the final chapter seemed quite rushed and made the ending feel unsatisfying since it was just starting to get good. Even so, Neurodiver was still a psy-fi adventure I’m glad I was a part of, even if it didn’t quite and as strong as it began.

Read Only Memories: NEURODIVER delivers an intriguing sci-fi adventure that’s relentless from the get-go. MidBoss have crafted an interesting world full of fascinating characters and ensures their personalities are showcased via great voice acting.

Read Only Memories: Neurodiver is a great visual novel experience. However, it isn't perfect. Yet, I enjoyed the varied characters and the excellent story. Sadly, though, the controls weren't great, and replay value is limited.

Read Only Memories: Neurodiver feels like a step back from its predecessor on just about every level. The plot is lacking in intrigue and severely underbaked, while the simplistic gameplay offers little challenge. While it's nice to get further detail on the universe of the series, this sequel severely disappoints.

Read Only Memories: NEURODIVER presents an adventure in the same vein as its predecessor, with a particular emphasis on social struggles and inclusivity. However, its lack of risk taking prevents it from offering a scenario that had all the potential to become vertiginous. Instead, we have to make do with a gentle but overly timid plot. If its biggest flaw is its French localisation, this can at least be fixed via a few updates. Nevertheless, it remains a visual novel with an interesting universe, for those who love pixel art adventures.
