    Wonderfully original, fascinating subject matter - brings back memories of The Name of the Rose. The gameplay won't be for everyone, but for those with the intellectual curiosity to dig in, this is an absolute gem. So glad that Game Pass is able to support content like this for the thinking gamer.

    This is a special game. Rare is it that when the credits roll do tears roll down my cheeks. Such a compelling and adult narrative, dealing with issues which all of us face in our lives. Beyond anything that I could possibly expect this game is my personal number 1 this year.

    its hard to describe this game. you live the life the artist Andreas, and it feels like its your life. its your choices that you make in the game, and see the consequences of them. I became obsessed with the game, wanted to know more and more. what will happen if i do this or that. This game is really something special.

    As a fan of point and click adventure games, this one caught me a little off guard. What I mean is that it didn't have the same sort of puzzle or item discovery structure I have long associated with this type of game.

    It starts a little slow as you familiarize yourself with the world, but a mystery starts to unfold. And once it did, the story had its hooks in me. I wanted to interrogate every person, discover every secret, and uncover the truth of the mystery.

    Fun & Unique adventure game, More of an animated story book than anything else, Beautiful drawn. Great story. If you don't like to read or click through text then you definitely will have a problem here. Otherwise, it's worth the time.

    Pentiment es un juego unico. Es una mezcla entre RPG y Walking Simulator donde de forma totalmente fortuita te veras en la mitad de una investigacion de un asesinato.

    Es un juego rudo de jugar al principio. acostumbrados a juegos que te llevan de la mano desde el minuto uno, y a acompañantes que practicamente te resuelven los puzzles antes siquiera que estos aparezcan, un juego donde    Pentiment es un juego unico. Es una mezcla entre RPG y Walking Simulator donde de forma totalmente fortuita te veras en la mitad de una investigacion de un asesinato.

    Es un juego rudo de jugar al principio. acostumbrados a juegos que te llevan de la mano desde el minuto uno, y a acompañantes que practicamente te resuelven los puzzles antes siquiera que estos aparezcan, un juego donde resulta contra-intuitivo comprender el mapa se hace complicado. Aun asi, esa 'arisca' primera toma de contacto se vuelve tremendamente comoda y satisfactoria tras los primeros 30-40 minutos de juego. No es que el juego sea aburrido e ingobernable la primera media hora, es que no entiendes lo que el juego te esta pidiendo que hagas.

    El juego te esta pidiendo que hables con los personajes, que definas tu trasfondo e historia MIENTRAS hablas con el resto de personajes y no en una pantalla de creacion previa de personaje. Estas MODELANDO a tu personaje MIENTRAS estas jugando. Son tus decisiones en la primera media hora las que modelan a tu personaje. No es que el juego se 'tosco', es que los primeros 30 minutos estaban definiendo al personaje MIENTRAS jugabas.

    El resto del juego es una delicia: el juego te atrapa bajo el misterio del asesinato sin resolver y siempre estas diciendo 'venga, charlo con otro personaje mas, y lo dejo por hoy', pero tu y yo sabemos que no va a ser asi. Vas a charlar con uno, y luego con otro, y luego con otro, y luego vas a comer con otro, y luego, si, iras a dormir, pero te despertaran en mitad de la noche, y querras hablar con otro, y querras ir al bosque a ver si otro personaje esta alli... es muy dificil, MUY DIFICIL, quitar el juego una vez has empezado a jugar.

    Obsidian lo ha vuelto a hacer, tenemos una pequeña joya entre manos. Un juego asi habria sido IMPOSIBLE sin GamePass. Algo tan original, transgresor, y con una estetica tan particular jamas habria tenido luz verde de ninguna productora o distribuidora.

    Disfrutalo, no hay muchos juegos como Pentiment. Casi diria, que es unico en su genero.    … Expand

    In a world of Call of Duty and Destiny we need a game like this. I can see why some might not like it due to the amount of reading and the style of gameplay but for the targeted playerbase it is a masterpiece.

    I still remember many visual games from the 90s that were better.

    At the beginning I was kinda angry at the graphics and way your character moves but I ended up loving the design after some minutes in .

    One of the best games of 2022. I love story focused games though. Between this and As Dusk Falls I feel like Xbox has done a great job with these story games.

    At first I wasn’t feeling the art style but quickly thought it was pretty beautiful as I progressed. The story and history behind the game were super interesting too. May not be for everyone but I loved it.

    Beautiful art style, well written and deep character building. The little details of typos and different fonts for community status was great. Can't wait to play through multiple times to see what character I can build Andreas into.     A Review of a game set in the Protestant reformation from a reformed pastor!

    I did not know what to expect with this game but it blew me away.

    First, check out Obsidians YouTube to see how much they put into the set and fonts in the game. They consulted actual historians and other PhDs. The game is art, like actual art!

    Also this game was the first game I’ve ever played with a bibliography in the credits, amazing.

    This game is rich in so many ways from the art direction to the history, characters, and story. The plot is thick and very intelligent and it all comes together in a beautiful way. The rpg elements are so fun, especially for a pastor who has had theological education. I knew a lot of the terms and even some of the Greek, Hebrew, and theological words and lingo. But don’t let that keep you from it, it was just an added bonus for me, but you do not have to play in a way that makes you learn that, you can be a hedonist pagan if you want. Here are my positives
    - Art style and font work.
    - history
    - commentary on religion and social classes
    - amazing story and murder mystery plot.
    - the two protagonists are goated for me. Such good character work for a non-voice acted game.
    - the writing - the rpg elements
    - the process of investigating and accusing people of murder.
    - this game is a true work of art in every way.

    You need to give this game a shot especially if you are a game pass subscriber! If you are unsure wait to make a verdict until you begin investigating the first crime, you will get hooked!    … Expand

    An absolute triumph. Gorgeous historical art, incredibly rich and detailed setting, and a lot of obvious love put into the work. This is a unique game that I am so glad exists. Loved every minute of it and was genuinely moved in addition to sending me down a rabbithole in which I am now a much bigger fan and student of history. Brilliant!

    The art is awesome, the dialog is hilarious, historical and just all around really great. I've never played this type of game but gamepass got me to try it and I'm really enjoying this story so far. Great job Obsidian!

    This game is simply AMAZING! It drags a little in the first hour, but once the story and character develops it becomes extremely addicting and fascinating! Its would have never guessed how deep the story is, and how immersive it gets, putting the player face to face with some situations hardly presented in medieval times games.     Pentiment no es un juego para todo el mundo, a diferencia de muchos otros está centrado en la narrativa y no en la acción, cosa que puede hacerse lenta y tediosa para muchas personas. Es un juego realmente recomendable para las personas a quien les gusten las buenas narrativas y los buenos libros. También para los amantes de la historia, ya que hay pocos juegos con mejor precisiónPentiment no es un juego para todo el mundo, a diferencia de muchos otros está centrado en la narrativa y no en la acción, cosa que puede hacerse lenta y tediosa para muchas personas. Es un juego realmente recomendable para las personas a quien les gusten las buenas narrativas y los buenos libros. También para los amantes de la historia, ya que hay pocos juegos con mejor precisión histórica. Es impresionante como el juego consigue transmitir la situación que se vivía en la Baviera del siglo XVI, con los abusos de los poderosos, la miseria del pueblo llano, las numerosas y diversas espiritualidades del momento y la reforma de Lutero.
    A nivel artístico, no es un juego anticuado aunque no tenga gráficos realistas. Su estilo es completamente intencional, tomando como inspiración los libros iluminados de finales de época medieval e inicios de época moderna. Así, artísticamente es un juego original, que nos sumerge más en la historia de un pintor del siglo XVI.
    Puede que los puzles sean muy sencillos y que no se tenga que pensar mucho para resolverlos, pero cumplen su cometido, ser una pequeña distracción de la narrativa del juego.
    Realmente creo que es un juego que merece la pena, muy original en algunos aspectos y con una narrativa como punto fuerte. Pero, como ya he dicho, no es un juego para todo el mundo.    … Expand

    Ótimo jogo, sim ele tem o ritmo bem lento e não é um AAA, mas tem uma arte linda uma narrativa espetacular cheia de mistérios e detalhes ricos. Vale a pena conferir e tire suas próprias conclusões.

    Esse jogo não é pra todo mundo, ele lembra um pouco Disco Elysium, é MUITO texto pra ler. A história e o estilo de arte do game são seus pontos mais fortes e seu grande atrativo. O gameplay de Pentiment é ótimo para oq se propõe a ser. Recomendo bastante! É otimo ver empresas grandes financiando projetos pequenos/médios, como a EA com It Takes Two.

    This game is great. The dialogue is unique and flows in such a way that makes conversations more engaging and rarely dull. Considering the amount of historical context this game broadcasts to you, it doesn't fire hose you with information. The glossary is clutch for learning a little more about figures and terms that come up in conversation. I can't blame people coming into this game withThis game is great.     This game is one of the best game I’ve ever played! The graphic is truly amazing, nothing of this sort has ever been attempted before. The plot is gripping and the soundtrack is just right. Also, from a historical point of view, this is probably the most historically accurate game I’ve ever seen. Obsidian deserves credit for this work of art!

    Pentiment is a very unique game made by obsidian that has made fallout new Vegas and the outer worlds. This game is not for everyone but you should give it a try it has a very good story with little gameplay. This is all about the story. Which in my opinion was a good decision. Pentiment's art style is also very unique with the characters. Once again obsidian carrying Xbox.

You are solving puzzles and interacting with people through text driven dialog boxes. For an older gamer, familiar with the concepts, this is a fantastic nostalgia experience. That said, the game itself is fantastic. You are challenged to develop your thoughts and theories. You are hemmed in by time and challenged to select the right answers. At the same time, I find the game educational on the life of people at that time and the limits of life at the time. I’ve found it to be enjoyable, educational and one of the best games I have played. All that said, it is not for everyone. Gamers looking for a fast paced action shooter will be bitterly disappointed by this game. People looking for a brain tease, puzzle solver with a true medieval setting and a in-depth exploration of the feudal life will love this new game.… Expand

    This game has no voice actors. This game has no combat. This game has no action. If you can’t read or don’t like games where you have to think, this won’t be for you. This game is so different than what you currently play. It’s beautiful. When paying Pentiment, it reminds me of an old play.    This is the first game I ever reviewed on Metacritic because I felt that the world needs to know.

    When paying Pentiment, it reminds me of an old play. One where no one is perfect and you don’t have all the answers, but you have your gut feeling and your instincts. It’s truly watching a theatrical play, but you’re the director and story creator.

    The first time I played it, I played for 6 hours straight. Each time I hop in, it’s more and more addictive. Normally I don’t play games again after I finish them, but this may be one I go back to so I can continue to look for clues and alternative storylines.    … Expand

Yes, there may be quite a bit of reading to do but the writing sucks you in and leaves you wanting more. The way each character develops and has a different personality compared to everyone else makes it feel as if you’re actually there dealing with your average day to day people living their own lives. You find people you like. You find people you hate. You find people that have the exact same beliefs as you. It pushes you into the mindset of “I HAVE TO DO THIS FOR THIS PERSON” or, “I’m definitely betraying this person”. The choices you make are extremely important. Obsidian (and Bethesda) are known for this sort of ordeal. But in Pentiment, these choices and decisions take a much larger thought process than those that are in any of the other titles that both studios have produced. I can’t really put it into words but, it all goes back to the writing. It’s easy to just call it phenomenal. I’m most definitely going to be running multiple play-throughs to see how the story can change in all of its different ways. 11/10 for sure. Solid piece of art.… Expand

    Pentiment shows that in this day and age you do not need to be action packed game. The narrative was written with love and detail to the setting and is another home run from obsidian.

    in a generation with games full of action, linear history, great cutscenes, combos, pressing several buttons, Pentiment has none of that, a slow story at the beginning but already intriguing, historical details of the middle age with an almost perfect background, animations and incredible details, Pentiment is the game that nobody asked for, almost unique

    To those wondering why the user score is so low, this usually happens with games like this. It takes people a little while to wrap their heads around types of games they’re not used to playing. Which is understandable. But do yourself a favor and try this game out. If it’s the type of game for you, you’ll fall in love.

En una industria en la que, por lo general, se alaba por encima de todo el despliegue técnico, Pentiment resulta ser esa rara avis que aparece de vez en cuando demostrando que, tanto en el mundo del videojuego como en otros ámbitos, se puede ser excelente sin recurrir a la espectacularidad. Temas como la vocación, la pérdida, el miedo o el arrepentimiento se tratan en esta obra sin los recursos habituales del drama hollywoodiense que vemos en otros videojuegos, sino desde una perspectiva más madura y fiel a la vida de cualquier ser humano. Lo que más destaca es su apartado artístico, que lo inunda todo de tal manera que nada (o casi nada) escapa a él: los diálogos, el modo de ver la vida de los personajes, su día a día, las motivaciones, el apartado visual, ... Dicho esto, no es un videojuego para cualquier persona: el contenido narrativo está en buena parte imbuido de cuestiones religiosas (sobre todo esta) y filosóficas, puede echar para atrás a mucha gente.
