Platinum has added its own style on top of the Ninja Gaiden formula, and it's so noticeable that it will divide the community. It clearly works in terms of the controls. The combat is frenetic, with perfect animations, but unfortunately, everything else has been neglected. [Recommended]

Ninja Gaiden 4 will not be up for Game of the Year, or likely even considered one of the best games in the series, but that doesn't matter. This is a game for anyone who just wants to feel like a badass ninja carving up enemies in the blink of an eye, because sometimes that's all you want.

When Ninja Gaiden 4 focuses on what it’s good at – fights against lots of sword-wielding enemies in melee combat or a single big boss, it excels. Few games feel as satisfying as Ninja Gaiden 4, when you’re seamlessly blocking attacks and going straight into flashy, instant-kill death combos, with red rivers of blood soaking every surface. It’s just the moments outside of these that can test your patience, as the game can feel unfair, especially during a first playthrough when you’re learning the ropes.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is one of my favorite action games I’ve played in years, and it’s the game I always imagined that the original 3D Ninja Gaiden would be. I didn’t feel like I missed anything by jumping in so late in the franchise.

Ninja Gaiden has nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to its legacy. Thanks to its gameplay and technique, the blade in this episode is as sharp as it is fine, and the school of skill is on a roll. Quite simply, it's been a long time since we've had so much fun with a title of this genre. However, the overall presentation is far from the most stylish. In terms of its structure and ambition, it is not as spectacular as expected and does not deliver the slash we were hoping for. What remains nonetheless is the pleasure of quite a virtuous game.
