    A $60 roster update with worse receivers and better cornerbacks. Every pass is a pick. The commentators are the same as Madden 17. The franchise mode is the same as years before. There are no features like creating a team or creating a play. The animations are cheesy and the graphics engine is dated. DO NOT BUY.

    It only gets worse the more they make this game. It's too animation reliant, no real physics, no real control. And good luck trying to outsmart a CPU team on the Harder difficulties. Game is trash and always will be

    I’m 15 so I only realized madden was getting pretty bad when madden 21 came out I was a ea play subscriber and franchise was bugging out like crazy.but since madden 17 they started to not give a **** about us. but madden 22 on next Gen is way more realistic they just have to fix the glitches and put in more freaking animations I’ve literally seen the same animations for too many yearsI’m 15 so I only realized madden was getting pretty bad when madden 21 came out I was a ea play subscriber and franchise was bugging out like crazy.but since madden 17 they started to not give a **** about us. but madden 22 on next Gen is way more realistic they just have to fix the glitches and put in more freaking animations I’ve literally seen the same animations for too many years This gets an 8 because i only really care about gameplay and franchise and both of those are significantly better then previous years in my opinion.

    This is by far the worst Madden game I’ve ever played. Thankfully, I didn’t waste my money buying the game and instead downloaded it from the game pass. The biggest issue is how unrealistic the player movements are, mainly with how a defensive player can leap into the air and intercept a quarterback even if they’ve been facing away from him and shouldn’t be able to know exactly where theThis is by far the worst Madden game I’ve ever played. Thankfully, I didn’t waste my money buying the game and instead downloaded it from the game pass. Another issue is literally every player having the same body; if it’s a lineman - just widen the belly and make the ankles bigger. Franchise mode is more boring than it has ever been. I can’t count how many times I’ve restarted a franchise because the stats and game results being the most unrealistic imaginable. You’d think as being a literal monopoly to the NFL, you’d be able to at least make the game functional and realistic. That’s not the case here. I yearn for the day that EA either loses the rights to NFL football games or they go bankrupt. That can’t happen as long as 40 year old dads and moms getting it for their 12 year olds get in the way.… Expand

    I haven't played a Madden title in over 5 years. I should have kept it that way. Characters feel like they have no weight to them as they skate all over an ice rink. It is mostly noticeable on defense. The dependency of animation based gameplay is way too noticeable as well.

The Ultimate Team is now at the forefront of the game as the main mode, a mode i could care less for and won't touch if you paid me. It is not real football, just a pay to win gimmick they can recycle every season. I'd be more open to this mode if they didn't do a hard reset on everyone's progress each year.

    This game is suffering mostly from having an unrealistic archaic release expectation of seasonal releases in a much more modern time of just constantly updating ONE game. We are online now. Some people, like myself, have been buying digital only for over a decade. If they were allowed to have one Madden game that they consistently updated and perhaps charged a smaller fee for the roster updates it would make sense. Considering they already have paid microtransactions in a full priced game I have no idea why this idea hasn't been brought up yet. Not to mention, the past two years they have been literally giving the game away via social media and other means due to widely poor reception. This franchise is practically begging for a free to play model.

    Lastly, if you made it this far the Face of the Franchise mode I just could not stomach. Maybe it is because I am getting older and cannot relate, or maybe it is because EA is out of touch and think this is what "kids these days" do. Every cutscene I tried to sit through was literally just you and your buds trying to make Tik Toks out of everything you were doing. Everything said was very cringe worthy and made me feel second hand embarrassment to the point I'd end up skipping the scenes entirely. Also the NIKE sponsorship is so baked into this game that they basically turn you into the player you could never have been without their institute you show up to and get schooled by. Its so ridiculous it is insulting.

    Needless to say I played my college game and realized how much of a decline this franchise has made even in 5 years. I miss the gameplay and feel of the titles from 2008 if I am being honest. I believe APF 2k8 probably had the best sense of weight and smart player AI that I can truly remember. Unfortunate people are stuck with nonsense football titles like this one.

    Graphics are good but that’s it, everything else about the game is bad. When you throw the to your wide receiver, they doesn’t go for the ball at all. But the defender just automatically goes for it… it should be the other way around. Game is awful.

    I used to be a diehard madden fan from 07-17. The game has somehow gotten even worse from when I stopped playing. It’s so sad. I would play everyday if madden even put out a half decent game.

    Animations still dont respect physics, franchise mode is still incredibly bland missing features from years ago. It seems as if every year EA is only wrried about making the MUT experience more fun which is BS to the madden players out there that want a true simulation football game. NFL needs to get out of this exclusivity contract with EA and allow competition back in the marketplace.

Three straight drives they shred my defense, including one play where a small rookie receiver runs over a stacked MLB and a CB for a TD. Almost no incompletions. Meanwhile, my top 3 WRs suddenly can’t hang on to a single pass that comes their way. It happens in every version of the game for the past few years, but this is just blatantly ridiculous and I am done dealing with it. The game is no longer fun because of this, and the music gets worse every year. The music might even be worse than the gameplay, which is really saying something…..and I haven’t even gotten into the glitches….this game is straight up garbage.… Expand

Load times are not what they were hyped up to be. Sure they are little things, but easy things to fix. You can tell when you load into the main menu that their main focus is Ultimate Team. They advertise every new promotion they have and the micro transactions are what they make their profit on. Which sucks for people that play ultimate team for the challenge of building a team without using real money. All EA wants is your money and they know they can put out a borderline mediocre game every year and fans will buy it because 1. They’re the only option, and 2. They have so many online influencers promoting their game as something worth the $70 price tag. It is not. If the NFL opened up their license to all developers, EA would lose a lot of sales for Madden because people have been begging for a fresh start for YEARS. The only thing this game has going for it over any Pre-Madden 12 game, is the graphics. You take these graphics and slap them over Madden 12 with some updated rosters, this game would be amazing. But EA doesn’t seem to see it that way. It’s a shame really because until the NFL realizes that this game has sucked for years, this is what we are stuck with.… Expand

Its also better than Madden 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 which the majority of new player only remember. The graphics are what you should expect from a modern system, i like the momentum meter and the game day atmosphere. Now the bad, defensive logic is terrible, the bugsHonest review time! Showing it actually means NOTHING! Over all I do think this game is an improvement over the last five years, however the last five years were horrible games too. This game is trash, bottom line! its just a more polished turn than in the last few years. Size and weight mean absolutely nothing and to make matters worse some animations can cause the ball to teleport just so it can finish. Players will start flipping through the air well before contact has been made on a contested-catch, the list can go on and on. There is not one thing about this game that gives an authentic NFL feel.

    They hyped up a major franchise mode update after completely neglecting it for years and yet even after delaying the release for a whole month it still sucks! The actions are far more tedious, you get less information, less control, and ultimately a worse experience.

    I have honestly never been more disappointed in a game in my life; EA needs to either get their act together or they need to lose their exclusive rights. It's actually unbelievable how we have a less immersive game, a far clunkier, and ultimately worse game than the product they were putting out in the early 2000's.    … Expand

    It's September 23 and they haven't released the proper game for franchise players, still waiting for the scouting update that will require a franchise restart. If you don't play MUT, they don't care. They either need a bigger team or a alternating dev group so each team has longer to work on the game like call of duty does. Still buggy as he'll too.

    This has been a major disappointment. NEXT Gen in the second year is pretty bad for a 70-100 dollar product. Nothing is working so just do what WWE 2k did rebuild this thing and make it right. All Franchise games are way ahead of their debacle

    Gameplay is near unplayable. Play arts don't load, zone coverage is unusable as cpu controlled guys don't move from the spot they're in at all, run game is useless unless you have an x factor rb, inputs are delayed in the passing game so accidental pump fakes are frequent. Game is generally trash.

I knew it was copy and paste but I thought they would improve on the now 2nd worst madden and that the home field advantage was a great idea but it is terrible and the worst part of this year madden is that it’s not playable every mode has either no reason to play it or the worst bugs/glitches I have ever seen 1. Mut is terrible I played for 5 years and this is the worst the level grind is terrible and if you decide to torture yourself for a week nonstop you can get banned form every mode the rewards are terrible for nms it really feel like a buy bundles or quit type of year and they made the draft unplayable 2. Franchise I don’t even play franchise but just watch one Ryan moody video and you will see how bad it is

    This is by far the worst game. NFL should be embarrassed to have their name on this game. they don't do anything to improve the game and lots of people are requesting refunds. Overall i will not purchase this game again for a long time until something is done that feels like a real improvement.

    Worse game to ever be produced wish I could get my money back I am semi convinced I could produce a better game. Between bugs where players freeze mid route or play and other time players kicking the ball for minutes on end or just the most un realistic animations this game is straight booty juice and I warn anyone to ever pick up the controller to play this game

Loaded up a game while he wasn't in the room. we started playing and he said this isn't so bad.... then I pointed out that I had started up 21, not 22.... and we played a lot of 21 since it hit GamePass earlier this year.

Loaded up a game while he wasn't in the room. we started playing and he said this isn't so bad.... then I pointed out that I had started up 21, not 22.... and we played a lot of 21 since it hit GamePass earlier this year.

    When somebody can pick it up and play an older version of the game and not notcie because the core gameplay and glitches don't change from year to year... that IS a problem. especially when you consider the pre-release hype given talked about how much it changed from year 1 to year 2 on the Series S | X and PS5.

    I will never understand why the NFL continues to push exclusivity on their games. So many weird animations and glitches galore. I don't see why the people who continue pumping money out for microtransactions in the game don't complain more about the issues. Outside of ultimate team's money grubbing, the 'new' features are okay. That's it... okay, not amazing or great. Maybe because NCAA already nailed the home team experience over ten years ago, EA should have evolved the Madden game more with the demise of NCAA. I keep a 360 around just to play ncaa 14 which is now 8 years old and still less glitchy (but yes, it has its own issues) and more fun than a current gen madden.

    Unfortunately, as it is said year after year, nothinbg with Madden will ever change. People continue to buy the game, continue to pump money in to the ultimate team, and EA has no reason to push for a better game because, well, why should they? There is no competition.

    I don't give games a zero or this would probably have that score. I figured if the game was able to release it deserves at least a 1. I am starting to reconsider this belief after playing a game with nothing new to truly show for itself.    … Expand

    I've been a huge fan of both Madden and the game of football for as long as I can remember. I first started playing when I was just 7 years old playing Madden 09, and I was amazed by all the features you could check out, from creating your own superstar and participating in combine drills, to creating your own team and designing your own stadium peice by peice to turn an expansionI've been a huge fan of both Madden and the game of football for as long as I can remember. I first started playing when I was just 7 years old playing Madden 09, and I was amazed by all the features you could check out, from creating your own superstar and participating in combine drills, to creating your own team and designing your own stadium peice by peice to turn an expansion franchise into a dynasty. I continued to play the Madden games as I got older, naively ignoring the features they continued to remove as time went on. Sadly, this might be the last Madden game I buy for a long time after buying them all year after year. EA's promises that they made to both consumer and critic have simply fallen short. Every single year EA takes away feature after feature that was once loved by the community, giving excuses such as the game doesn't have enough storage, etc. This year they finally get a next generation console which should open so many doors for them to add many new and enjoyable features into the game, and what do they do? Nearly the absolute opposite. The game has become nothing more than a gigantic cash grab. They let you "grind" for good players and cosmetics in their two moneymakers The Yard and Madden Ultimate Team (both of which have become completely stale and stagnant as well), but the amount of time it takes you to unlock anything of worth is a complete waste of time which should honestly be spent playing a more complete game. The game essentially forces you to pay money if you want to get anywhere in ultimate team, and the cosmetics which you have to pay for in the yard give absolutely no advantage other than looking cool. The Face of the Franchise mode was honestly somewhat enjoyable the first time I played through, albeit it was very unrealistic, it was fun nonetheless. Sadly,, the game mode has absolutely no replayability, as no matter what the beginning story wl stay the exact same. I could forgive nearly all of this, however, if they simply followed through on their promises to bring a needed overhaul to their franchise mode. Over the summer, EA Sports promised that they would make a wide variety of changes and additions to their franchise mode, citing complaints from their fans from the backlash of the staleness of Madden 21's franchise mode. EA promised additions such as Assistant coaching trees and enhanced scouting features for their upcoming Madden 22 title. Only one of these features were actually added at launch, Sadly, as EA somehow couldn't implement their new scouting system in time for the August release. To make matters worse, this so-called "overhaul" of franchise mode completely destroyed the games code for some reason. The game has become more plagued with bugs and glitches than it ever has before. Opposing teams simply fail to show up for games; leaving teams to play against air for 60 minutes, sometimes when two players try to play head to head the game simply doesn't even load, leaving both players to stare at a camera panning view of the stadium for 5 minutes before crashing, and sometimes neither tram shows up for games. I even experienced one "glitch" where I tried loading the game and it crashed my xbox, forcing me to reset my display settings and perform a full restart on my console. No game has ever done this to me before, and I suspect no game after this will do such a thing either. And to top it all off, the game does not even play like real football plays in real life. The game is way too animation dependent, players move so strangely that you'd think they were in a tap dancing group, and the computer players have absolutely no football logic whatsoever. Even high school football players have higher football IQ than the computers in this game do on all Madden skill level. They don't know how to carry a zone on defense, they can't figure out a proper pursuit angle on a runner, the offensive line can't form a proper pocket for the quarterback half the time, and the secondary can't figure out how to pick up a man when he crosses into their zone. The only reason I gave this game a 1 is because they simply tried to implement changes and improvements into the game, but it screwed everything up so badly that it almost makes them all for naught. The decline of the Madden franchise is definitely a sad one, but when you have a game company that simply doesn't care like EA does, the writing was on the wall for this one.… Expand

    There are new glitches like scoring touchdowns that aren't possible. Like when you punt the ball getting credit for a touchdown or getting tackled but being able to get back up and run the ball in, my favorite is the invisible bolder you sometimes trip over when no one is around you, and straight up losing a game that you won because the stat system is broken. The run game, I don't have words, blocking AI is terrible, defense AI is terrible, animation tackles are terrible, get the invisible tackle or the run through the guy as if he isn't there. The break tackle animations are incredible unbalanced and not skilled based. 57 overall QB breaking ankles, tackles, spin moves all in one play. Game has crashing and loading issues. Sometimes I have to turn off my controller just to get past the launch load screen which is a first for me. It has become one of those games that designers have, to use a line from Tommy Boy, "took a dump in a box and marked it [Madden XX]". Same issues that players have hated for years, new issues that will likely add to the old issues in future games. It is not worth $20 let alone the $70 it cost on next gen. I strongly encourage not buying this game and waiting until March 2022 for the 2K series which hopefully will come out swinging in their return.    … Expand

    To say playable would be generous. Sure you can "play" the game, but you will be more likely to quit before finishing your first game than having an enjoyable experience. Actually an enjoyable experience might be more rare than the computer correctly simulating a game.

Completely animation based and hardly follows physics, it’s been like this for years but it was enjoyable until now. Idk the direction that madden is trying to go are they trying to make an arcade game with all the X factors and momentum meter how about just make great players play great. The game will literally decide when you can tackle or reroute your players to make you miss tackles. You will have 350lb linemen catch up with starting receivers and rbs. Even the stats dont work. A 70 rated OL will hold blocks for 10+ seconds against the best pass rushers in the game. 65 ovr receivers look un-guardable when being covered by 90ovr CBs. This is about as fair and skill-based as Slot machines in Vegas.… Expand

This game is a disappointment, in my trial of the game. I was excited to checkout the face of the franchise mode as a Linebacker. This game mode was horribly underwhelming. Choices are too linear and takes away from the experience. The cut scenes were thrown together with little thought. Players lips move but there is no audio. Games were forced, some season games were forced losses and wins. I would be taken out of the game as starting middle linebacker for most of the game. The other team scoring 3 touchdowns on offense where I was not on the field. One game I played against my starting offense, it said Chargers vs Chargers at the top of the screen even though we were at arrowhead. Now to gameplay, I have one question for EA. HOW IS THE AI BLOCKING GETTING WORSE YEAR AFTER YEAR? not even staying bad but progressively getting worse. AI defenders do not cover, Period. The animations for tackles are still forced and AI runners truck and yeet defenders no matter the size or ability of either the runner or defender. Receivers do not try to catch balls randomly. Quarterbacks fumble senselessly over and over again. When I audible from five wide to a run play, quaterback automatically takeoff with the ball and fumble. The pitch on option plays are busted the running back does not register that the ball is coming and consequencely the ball falls on the ground as a fumble. Quarterbacks still throw the ball to defenders randomly. I am severely disappointed that the game has got progressively worse since I started playing avidly in 2010. I thought last year after the severe disappointment of Madden 21 that maybe just maybe EA would listen to it's customers and step up to the plate and deliver yet we continue to fall in quality of the game. Simulation football is at a all time low and it's disgusting that EA can be proud of this game.… Expand

Face of the Franchise is still broken and the game is a buggy mess. EA promised progress and a next gen version, when this game is no different from Madden 21, with FIFA and NHL resources copied and pasted in.

I’m not 2k fanboy but NFL2k was the best video game, in helmet mode ESPN highlights actual simulation football a complete released game, create your team mode and the gameplay mechanics were real life like. Mike Evans is one of the best red zone threats in the NFL but corners who are 5 inches shorter and less athletic seem the have the upper hand on him because the animations are still towards cornerbacks winning 50/50 balls which in reality/simulation is at least an 80/20 for Evans.… Expand

    Game literally doesn't work. Ball regularly teleports to random locations and players get stuck so badly a play cannot end, forcing a reset.

Game is exactly the same as 21, 20, 19, etc. There are some new upgrades to franchise but other than that, still a micro-transaction based game for them to make more money off of MUT. Do not buy if you have 21 already as nothing has changed really. Announcers still sound like a Nickelodeon broadcast, repetitive animations and only the smallest of upgrades to the frostbite gameplay software (if you can even call it an upgrade) left me wondering if I’ll ever buy a madden game again.… Expand

Try to fix the franchise mode a little bit so that it makes the fantasy drafting even remotely fun.     The very first game I played online h2h, my entire team did not appear. 3 aborted games later I figured out it this was from using a custom playbook. Tried to report the bug and discovered a bug on the bug report page, couldn't even report it. The defensive coverages in both man and zone are worse than 20 or 21. Tackling animations, offensive lineman blocking, and lines of pursuit are still the same problems they have been for the past 6 or 7 years. Zero gameplay improvements from madden 21 that I can see, a little worse in some areas. I didnt even touch "franchise" mode. This game is a buggy borderline unplayable mess.… Expand

    It is sad where the state of this franchise is. The NFL needs to re-evaluate this deal. Year after year they make this game worse by adding gimmicks that don't even work. Focus on the base game first, it is so bad. The core game is in such a bad state with canned animations and poor A.I. logic

    Madden 22 is the next year’s instalment on the franchise and I feel it’s gone back a step. Yes, it looks graphically better, but otherwise it’s really not that much different to previous instalments. The career mode is a roll-forward from previous years, as are the achievements. EA could do so much more with the Madden franchise and it’s a shame they haven’t executed it as well as I’d hope.

    For those who have not played Madden NFL for a few years, the new episode may be the right opportunity to start over. The Franchise mode has been rearranged and the direction taken seems to be the right one, while the gameplay, waiting for the adjustments in the secondary, is appreciated for a renewed physics in the inertia of the players' movements and for an AI that in more than one opportunity surprised us positively. The magic of the new generation has been little seen for now: Madden NFL 22 is still a good game to watch even if it was legitimate to expect something more. In general, our advice is to wait for EA Tiburon to fix bugs and glitches: time is up and the season has just started.
