Your feelings on randomness will determine whether Dicey Dungeon is for you. You can plan for that RNG and occasionally even stop it, but the dice will occasionally look up at you with its piercing snake eyes, and you’ll just have to swallow the loss. If you can accept that brand of cruelty, Dicey Dungeon is cracking.

Instead of cards the chance element revolves heavily around dice. Because of that it can feel quite unfair with enemies chaining status effects that go off almost every turn that lock down your cards and dice leaving you helpless. I felt a lot less in control of my character, and much more a pawn to the gods of RNG, than I did with Slay the Spire.

There isn't that much variety either, so enemies and bosses quickly started to get repetitive. Despite all that, the various characters you can play and interesting mission conditions create different experiences and playstyles for the 37 missions you must complete to finish the game. The game is addictive and had me playing "just one more game" repeatedly until I finished it. So there is that.

This game is unfair, plain and simple. I get it's a "rogue-like", and supposed to be RNG, but again, it's so unfair.

You get into a good run and then you get mowed down by enemies, which instantly end your run. They always seem to get dice they need, which heavily impacts your next move (The Loud Bird enemy ALWAYS gets doubles to silence you, gets an even to didge your attacks and always gets an odd to weaken your attacks, but this sort of thing isn't limited to this one enemy).

Enemies seems to change attacks as well, while you're only locked in to a certain number, they change theirs constantly. You could have 15HP left and the enemy always seems to get an attack that triples their damage with a 5, and always gets a 5.

Most rogue-likes usually has features to help you progress, but this game is so "random" in a way that's against the player that it's so unfair!
