Whilst it’s clear that a lot of effort went into Curse of the Sea Rats, the game really needs a significant amount of fine tuning. Similarly, there are a variety of great ideas included within it, but these need expanding on and fleshing out further to ensure this one turns into something that is truly brilliant. At present, Curse of the Sea Rats simply feels unremarkable.

Curse of the Sea Rats’ charmingly nostalgic art direction can only partially hide a Metroidvania whose mechanical shortcomings are numerous, and whose substandard technical stability is irredeemable in its launch state.

With numerous side quests, rich gameplay, local cooperation up to four players and an attractive art direction, Curse of the Sea Rats seems to have everything one can wish for. Unfortunately, with its difficulty to read content during multiplayer sessions, its short lifespan and a poorly crafted adventure ending, the title leaves a bitter taste. Without being a train wreck, the game is ultimately a failed soufflé.

    Summary:
Graphics, very good, hand-drawn, superb, the spectacular metroidvania map, the story, simple but fun. The gameplay has flaws, but the game, its rules.
However, all this is overshadowed by its continuous crashes, the game throws you to the Xbox home screen continuously and I talk about this anywhere, even if you have finished a boss, even if you are exploring, even if it is by mistake.
I understand that it's a small studio, but I'm not complaining about the quality of the game, which I repeat, its sublime, I'm complaining about constantly KICKING YOU out in a console game.
