Let's break it down with Beat Souls! A high-speed rhythm game where you have to avoid obstacles and collect the titular Beat Souls to wrack up a stylish combo and go for the high-score!

Lay the Rhythm Yokai to rest with awesome dance moves as you put on a killer performance!

Dodge left or right, or Jump and avoid the noise (obstacles) that fly in rhythm with the music.

To really master the game, you have to learn to move your character, Mikoto, while moving your Otomo companion to collect the Beat Souls. Dodge side to side and jump to avoid incoming danger while moving your Otomo across the screen to collect the incoming Beat Souls.

Beat Souls is a wonderful rhythm title that'll remind you of PaRappa the Rapper and Bust a Groove. It's bright, vivid, and challenging. Easy to pick up but deceptively difficult to master. You'll lose hours of your life to it as it's guaranteed to get under your skin.

A small indie developer has gathered together a pulsating playlist of forty-five JPop hits and then mapped them to an innovative take on rhythm action. Beat Souls is part endless runner, part Hatsune Miku, and it’s totally slapping.

Beat Souls adds some interesting twists but ultimately will be forgotten by the time you’ve gotten all of its achievements due to the lack of online play. Sure you could reach for online leaderboards if that’s your thing, but aside from that reason alone, something just felt ‘missing’. I truly love rhythm games and am always excited to try a new one when they release, and Beat Souls was no different, but I doubt I’ll go back to play anytime soon unless showing someone for a very specific reason.

Beat Souls is an interesting take on the musical rhythm game genre. They have managed to inject platform game elements into it which work pretty well and are tricky to master. The bright colours and animation are very vibrant and immersive but I feel it was let down by the audio as the sound effects don’t blend with the music and the music itself is pretty bland.
