"Atelier Yumia" is a story about Yumia and her companions confronting their memories and, despite their uncertainties, forging ahead on the path they believe in.

    Story:
The Aladissian Empire once thrived on a certain continent, having achieved remarkable development through alchemy that kept other nations at bay. However, it met its end due to a sudden and mysterious cataclysm.

Time progressed, and several centuries later—
Alchemy became known as a "dangerous art that brings destruction," considered "evil" and "taboo" in this new era.

In this now forbidden and perilous land, a lone alchemist sets foot. Her name is Yumia Reisfelt. Three years ago, after losing her mother in an accident, Yumia discovered that she was from a family of alchemists and began to question many things.

    Why was Aladiss destroyed?
    Why did alchemy become "taboo"?
    ...Is alchemy truly "evil"?

Believing that all truths lie within the continent, Yumia embarks on a journey to uncover the lost history.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Imaginary Land offers a fun, deep, and dynamic experience, combining classic elements of the series with modern innovations. Its debut on Xbox Series X is the best news JRPG fans could have had on the console, and it's also the first to launch with Spanish text.

Atelier Yumia’s first bout is a fun, open world crafting game that offers more than just clearing icons on a map—its verticality while offering player creativity through movement and housing tools make for a good time. It’s everything its developer has been building towards, and I’ve come away quite impressed with what they’ve got to offer.

Atelier Yumia, making its debut on platforms like Xbox, is the perfect title to get started with the alchemist saga. Featuring a dynamic turn-based combat system with real-time elements, alongside an immersive collection, base-building, and decorating system, the game focuses on exploration and alchemical crafting. Despite a slow start, the expansive open world, unique dungeons, and challenging encounters ensure a relaxing and visually appealing experience, cementing its identity within the series.

As a first foray onto Xbox consoles, Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & The Envisioned Land does a stellar job. It looks stunning, and the strong mix of exploration, alchemy and combat all complement each other extremely well. At times it does feel the story beats are a bit too spaced out, and the world map is daunting to look at, but no two play sessions are the same.

While not all the ingredients that make up the formula of this new Atelier game are necessarily S-tier, the end result is of good quality thanks to the many ideas that have been used to freshen up the licence. Unfortunately, the title is likely to appeal only to diehard fans of the series or to a few curious onlookers and others will probably be put off by its apparent complexity, the messy aspect of its battles and the sense of confusion conveyed by its gameplay. However, the synthesis of alchemy, adventure, construction and a richer storyline brings a pleasant revival to the genre and is worth a try.
