This game has hardly any hardcore bugs, some small ones are expected in this big open-world game. But it's very much playable and runs well on any system. It's not even nearly as bad as Cyberpunk 2077, so haters should just stop their lies.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla restored my faith in Ubisoft. I was really worried after Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It's actually understandable that all their games can't be hits, because they have so many studios working on different games, so no wonder some of these games are great and some are not.

There's absolutely no question that i'm bigger AC fan that he could ever dream to be. Calling Valhalla garbage is biggest joke in years. Valhalla is easily better than both Origins and specially Odyssey. Valhalla is first AC game in long time where it has been really interesting to finally explore the open world. You mentioned how interesting pyramids were in Origins, well of course. But here the thing, they were one of the few interesting things about Origins. Most of it was boring empty desert. I don't hate Origins, but it wasn't as interesting as Valhalla. Valhalla has way better story, better character and better open world. You said that England doesn't have landmarks or places to explore. Kidding me? London? Stonehenge? Huge castles? Mountains in Norway? There's so much to explore. Valhalla is easily one of the better designed maps Ubisoft has ever done, just behind Black Flag. There you go. You said that you laugh at people who think Origins is meh, well i laugh at you saying that Valhalla is garbage. There's clearly, very clearly more people who like Valhalla than Origins. Valhalla was biggest PC launch for Ubisoft EVER. It had over 2 million players in launch month alone. Jor Raptor gets 100 000s views on almost every Valhalla video he makes. People very clearly like this game and many have said that they absolutely love Valhalla map designs. Showing your "poll" as some evidence is BS, because most people answered that they haven't even played this game, but you said that people agree with you. Hell no. Thankfully you don't get that many views, so i don't really care that much, but this one video made me write this, because it was just too much nonsense. If you can have your BS opinion, then i have every right to have my opinion about your video and point out false things. I have been Assassin's Creed supporter and fan over 10 years and i very likely like games that you don't even like, because you seem like somebody who hops on hype trains. You know very well that people who whine about new games are just nostalgia nerds who hate every game after AC 3. I have always liked Unity and even Syndicate and i strongly doubt you like them. If you do, fair, but my point about Valhalla's map stands. Expand

Until Resident Evil Village comes out, it's literally only 2020 game that is still worth playing. Doom Eternal got old very fast and i'm not gonna play Tony Hawk 1+2 Remake 24/7. Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the biggest fails of all time. Resident Evil 3 Remake was too short and boring. Last of Us 2 is one of the worst games ever made. Watch Dogs Legion is pathetic. Final Fantasy VII Remake has no reason to play again, even tho good game. Ghost of Tsushima has one of the worst camera angles in any video game ever, so i just can't play it, but it doesn't seem very interesting anyway. Marvel's Avengers is a joke. Mafia 1 Remake had good story, but has one of the emptiest open-worlds ever, there's absolutely nothing to do or explore.

So what's left? Literally only one game - Assassin's Creed Valhalla! It's not best game ever / not best AC game, but at least it's fun enough and DLC's almost look more interesting than main game, so i'm hyped. There's obviously always option to play older games (i do that literally all the time), but this review is for people who want something new.

I feel it's important to preface this review addressing one of the more common criticisms - that the game lacks the "Assassin's Creed" identity. For me personally, I've never been able to get into the franchise, mainly because, like Final Fantasy, it has built on its narrative for over a decade, to the point where I feel overwhelmed to start my journey as a completely new player. However, I've always found the Anglo-Saxon era of history very interesting, so I decided to give this a try to experience a game set in that era more than the Assassin's Creed lore itself. Over 200 hours of play-time later, which is an astonishing length for a SIngle-Player AAA nowadays, I came away shocked at how much I enjoyed the overarching Assassin's Creed narrative, and I feel energised to play the older games and connect the dots together. I feel it serves as a brilliant entry point into the series for casuals like myself, whilst also offering a deep, cognitive narrative that breathes new life and lore details into the very early games of the franchise.

It really surprised me how multi-layered the story became. You play as a Norse Viking, Eivor, looking to conquer England with her clan. Through your journey, you make and break friendships, bonds, oaths, lovers, brothers, kings and thegns. Each region of England follows its own seperate, unique story, in the wider goal of pacifying the land from Saxon rule. On top of that, there's the blend of Norse Mythology and Isu Mythology portrayed through Asgard and Jotunheim that later spills into Eivor's timeline as well in some expertly crafted twists and turns. On top of that, you have the "Order of the Ancients", a cult-like group that have weaved their way into power to push a new order into the world, later revealed to be the predecessor for The Templars. On top of all of that, you have the modern day storyline and the reason why the Animus is set up onto Eivor in the first place. It's exceptionally compelling when pieced together.

The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, one of the best games I've ever played in that regard. Especially in 4K display on XSX, it runs at a smooth 60fps in Performance Mode with no obvious dips, even in the most chaotic moments. The soundtrack is....phenomenal. Really quite special. it made me pre-order the vinyl.

I truly believe this is one of the best games released in recent years. I'm surprised at the amount of negative spotlight it continues to receive, I guess sadly it's not much different to any other mainstream release nowadays. it's such a shame the Gaming Industry is so fuelled by negativity. Of course, you're allowed to dislike the game, but some of the 0-rated scores are objectively ridiculous, and reeks of entitlement. Please, if you haven't done so already, give this a try, especially if you were like me and felt overwhelmed to dive into the AC franchise.

It's very obvious that more people actually like Valhalla way more than Odyssey. It's their best selling PC game of all time! i just feel Ubisoft fans are hiding in the shadows. They are too mature to argue on internet. They don't care about pointless drama. They just want to enjoy games. But i feel like sometimes Ubisoft fans should fight back stronger. Yeah it's cool you praise these things on reddit, but there's way more important sites and metacritic is one of them.

No youtuber never mentions some random reddit "praise post" but they always show metacriti'c user score and these videos get 100 000's on views. This is manipulation 101. I know it's pathetic, because metacritic user score is most meaningless thing on this planet, but fact is, that these people are using it. It's just bunch of losers, usually some tasteless crackwatch-reddit users who hate on Ubisoft in general. They don't even play their games, they don't even care about their games. They are just pathetic, whiny losers and nothing else.

When Far Cry 6 comes out in few month, i guarantee, bunch of Ubisoft haters (who will never buy Far Cry 6 btw) start giving it 0/10 scores and i feel like this time Ubisoft fans really, really need to fight back. It has gone too far. Cdproject red released most talentless game in 20 years and these people still try to praise it, while hating on Ubisoft's perfectly decent games that actually work. Like i said, these scores don't matter at all, they never did, never will, but i feel like Ubisoft fans (and there are millions) should for once actually try to fight back, even if it's just to annoy these haters. Even that would be worth it.

It has nothing to do with company. Ubisoft has made lots of games i don't care about at all (Breakpoint, Division 2, For Honor, Crew 2) and if Valhalla would be one of these bad games i would ignore it as well, but that's not the case. Valhalla simply isn't bad game. It's just not and nothing, absolutely nothing will change that fact.

Yes it is! Deal with it!

Now it's solid open-world AC game, but sadly it's not better than Black Flag. I just wish story/mission design was more interesting or unique. Black Flag had all kinds of unique mission designs and also story was better. In Valhalla missions aren't that interesting, but there's still many fun ones. But true star of Valhalla is it's open world and freedom to do whatever you feel like. That's what was missing from AC 1 for me, because these games can simply be so much more than just generic assassination games. AC is not and should not be Hitman. AC should be ALWAYS compared to games like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. You can do so much more in these games than just the basic story stuff and that same logic should apply to AC and most people seem to understand that. It seems to be minority who complains that AC is not so linear anymore. Most people seem to like that freedom and more activities. This open world is there for a reason! Might as well fill that open world with content and that's what Ubisoft did in both Black Flag and Valhalla, even Unity and Syndicate. That is the right direction.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s obvious that an enormous amount of work has gone into making this game. The graphics and sound are absolutely stunning and the developers have obviously put a lot of thought into the characters, plot and activities in an effort to keep the player engaged. The only thing I would say is that the game is too long. I have been played for about 100 hours. I don’t think I’m anywhere near completing the overarching quest and now I’m a bit bored. The only other negative is that the some of the side activities are rather “silly” and or immature. For example, the owner of a fox who thinks it’s a dog. Expand

The game is not filled with copy&paste quests that require you to travel to the other side of the map. Side quests actually vary and are more creative. Combat is more engaging than in Odyssey. Parkour finally requires a bit of thought. Basically this game is what Odyssey failed to be and Origins tried to be. Stealth mechanics returned and some new ones have been added like sliding on ground that you can perform to quickly escape and hide again. Ubisoft has put effort into story cutscenes and more is happening on screen. This is almost pefect AC. Only missing big cities to perform smooth parkour :) Expand

I only played one mystery and one world event. Need to check more of those out. It took me 63 hours to play what I finished. I raided all the main raids but still wasn’t able to fully boost my settlement. So you have to seek out more regular chests in the world than I did. I wish I knew to save many of my materials until later in the game- especially to boost health, upgrade weapons, and upgrade my arrow quiver. I didn’t like the present day stuff- wish they’d just abandon that altogether. But it wasn’t that much of the game. The most difficult boss for me was Goodwin. It took me quite a while to finally beat him. He was harder than Basim or Fenrir. I did not seek out the Sisters- so I can’t speak to them. Overall I ended up feeling quite happy with the game. I’m glad I spent the time with the game that I did. Granted, I loved the first AC games much more. But this is a great game by itself. I’m hoping the DLC expansions will be just as good. Overall I recommend it if this is your genre of games! I'd say it's one of the best of 2020 after Ghost of Tsushima- and waiting on Cyberpunk! Expand

I would start with graphics, could be one of the best i have ever seen in video games, Red Dead 2 blew me away and this one managed to do same. Let's be clear, Odyssey story sucked, Valhalla has actually good writing, good voice acting and it's actually interesting. I have heard some complain about combat, i personally like it. You can also choose a reduced HUD in order to enjoy more natural exploration (hands down for this). The main story is really good, sides quests are interesting, etc. You can also experience part of the game as an Assassin, following the line of older titles. The only aspect that I didn't like is the RPG component that make the game a little bit farmy, although it doesn't get to Odyssey's level or Shadows of War's. Finally, I should mention that I've experience two game breaking bugs so far as a result of the last update: flickering characters and crashes. Assassins Creed is my favrotie series of all time, so im harder on this series than I am with any other game.. and while Valhalla is a great game and my score will reflect that, as an assassins creed game, assassins creed Valhalla isa complete disappointment.
Here you play as avore, becauseubisoft cares more about its precious sales you chose either man version or female version because ubisoft is afraid to commit and want to make everyone happy.. you set off on a Viking adventure to basically take over England during the dark ages.. and sadly this is more of a Viking game with assassins creed mechanics rather than an assassins creed game where you play as a Viking, the lore of the Templars and the assassins is there.. infct the whole uncovering the order side thing odyssey had going on is valhallas main focus, and I love that… however the game built around it is the most hallow money grab of a game in probably the entire assassins creed series… they sold you on Vikings, rob and pillage, this is fun about 0 times, its never fun going into an area for a raid, opening chests and collecting all of the loot, its repetive and bland, and that can be said for the entire game… im one to uncover every inch of an assassins creed game, read very document, platinum it.. but assassins creed Valhalla is so hollow that I found myself skipping through a lot of its dialog as the story is broken up into individual kingdoms you go out and help… this is less of an assassins creed game, you know.. a game where you relive memories of someone that was supposed to have actually existed to learn more about the orer and the places of the pieces of edden, and just a boring Viking game where you go from kingdom to kingdom taking care of that kingdoms individual problems, it’s a 70 hour long game of individual mini stories that by themselves could be okay experiences, but in an assassins creed game they feel like a waste of time not adding anything to the overall world of assassins creed, no one will remember Valhalla as a step forward for the series, infact in a lot fof places Valhalla steps back, for example its loot, there is next to none, yet you still collect it from time to time, its such an awkward system that you forget there are other weapons and armorus you can pick up.. youll mpost likely stick to the first or second piece of gear you find in the game and stick to that all the way through, especially thanks to the grind heavy upgrading system here that require a ridiculous amount of recourses to upgrade weapons… where Valhalla steps forward though is you making choices that actually matter, your choices have consequences, you have different paths with different characters you can go down that don’t feel empty like odyssey did.. but back to the intial point, this is great if assassins creed were an rpg seres set in different time periods… but its not, its meant to be an experience of a story already told, not an unwritten story of your grandpa and you get to chose if he banged other Vikings or not… tell me if avor was gay or not, don’t let me chose, again.. commit to a character, tell me their story… this is not a solution to the story telling critques players have.. this is assassins creed, not dragon age.. tell me the story as it happened… but this is thebiggest assins creed game to date, though bigger isn’t always better, another first, this s the first time I gave up on collecting all the things in an assassins creed game, for one,, again the world felt boring pointless and hallow, even the side quests that were supposed to be the talk of the town, except for the mini game orlog, it had its hooks in me like gwent, and I love hunting down the zealots of the land, bringing my back to the original assassins creed.. but the colelctables here, the game just makes you work too hard to get, one too many are locked behind story progress – why even put it on the map then… and evry other one ios locked behing an environment puzzle.. I don’t mind this eveyr once in a while , but map cleaning in assassins creed is a form of meditation, if I have to figure out how to get to literally every chest in the world, it isn’t meditation anymore, it’s a puzzle game outside of the story, no thanks. Also traversal here is probably the worst in the series too, its wakward, plenty pof annoying deaths at the hands of climbing, The biggest disappointment overall is this games story, the worst ending in history if you can even call it an ending and the outside of the animus world features the least likably protagonist of all time, smoking doesn’t make you look like a badass, it makes you look inconsiderate of the people around you, but again, assassins creed Valhalla is a great game, the combat is fun, you can go down different paths to play the way you prefer, brute, ranged, stealth, or a mix of all 3…

I liked the story here, but I didn't like the way it was structured into a bunch of small story arcs because it meant that there were very few characters that had a relationship with Eivor throughout. Most of the other main characters were basically checked out after the prologue with only very minor check ins until the story wrapped up. For that reason, the whole thing didn't feel as cohesive as Odyssey. One other thing that drove me crazy is that they didn't adopt the really cool feature from Odyssey that decoupled the way your armor looks from its stats. I also did not like the armor/weapon progression too much... I literally used the same set for nearly the entire game because I preferred those perks. It meant I never really felt prompted to try out other weapons like I did in Odyssey. Voice acting was great. The funny side quests were great though I stopped doing them around hour 50 because I just wanted to get the game over with by that point. It took me another 25 hours, which I felt was too long since I wasn't really enjoying the way the story was built any more. I'm saying a lot of negative things here, but my score really is an 8/10. Comparing this game to the wide array of games out there, it really was quite good. I'm not much a fan of indies. Gimme that AAA big budget effort. Expand

EDIT : I modify my first review because the bugs preventing you from unlocking 2 big achievements have been patched without having to restart a new game, rare enough to mention, nice effort ubisoft. I've taken a real pleasure to return to ACV for these last achievements, but the end still upset me, particularly Basim returning to the present wihtout further question from the team.. One of the best AC opus still.

1st review : Well .. very nice opus , beautiful graphics, deep characters, story, neat twists. Why isn't it a 9 ? Because of the ubisoft day one syndrom of course, bugs (main and side quests, sucesses and not the small ones). At the time it's nearly impossible to get all the successes. So, I may change the note when it'll be corrected. And also.. the end is so flat.. not mediocre but 150 hours for that, did you say scenaristic trick/ shortcut ??

After reading that,, I grew concerned because both Odyssey and Origins were grindy making combat challenging by giving miniscule XP and forcing the player to buy a XP booster. My concerns were mostly alleviated when the territories of England were all a reasonable level. For the most part, two territories would be of the same power level, allowing the player to raise his/her power level with more ease then past games. I believe Valhalla's grindiness was more in line with that of Origins. Origins does not have an XP booster. For the most part,,, as long as you complete all the side missions in Origins you will be fine level wise. Similarly in Valhalla, since there is a lot to do in the main quest you level up quickly, however the XP booster does help. Odyssey on the other hand, had a really bad grind, enemies who were a few levels higher than you would resist attacks. Odyssey requires an XP booster to be fun. The story was mediocre, I thought it was ridiculous how many of the main characters flirt with Evior. It got to the point of immersion breaking sometimes. However, like Alex from the Angry Joe Show said Valhalla is being compared to games like God of War and Ghost of tsushima. God of War did Norse mythology well and Ghost of tsushima was a better Assassins creed. Recently,, I finished Assassins Creed Valhalla and clocked around 53 hours in the game. Another gripe I have is the anticlimactic ending and the lack of end game content and side content. Mysteries,, collectibles and wealth do not really appeal to me, I wanted more story side content. I did not even find all the orders of ancients members because it was too tedious of a task to find all the evidence to uncover their identity. However, I am waiting for a new game plus mode to replay it. I give Assassin creed Valhalla a 6/10. It is a reskin of Origins and Odyssey,, however they changed the progression system for the better, the story was mediocre and the lack of endgame content and side missions cause me to deduct a few points. The combat feels much better than Odyssey although it does take some time to really see the depth in it. Most of all the superfluous loot from Odyssey is replaced, the gear and weapons you find in Valhalla are much more quality over quantity. Finally, the game looks absolutely gorgeous on Xbox Series X. Despite the slight frame tearing here and there, its price I'm happy to pay to play in glorious 4K 60 FPS. Exploring medieval England is a pure delight. Expand

-They've toned down the RPG elements just enough to make the game fun again and not a slog to get through.
-Narrative is strong when looked at in terms of each story arc. But some arcs are definitely better than others and a *bit* more editing could have made it a much tighter game. Or just making a few of the more minor arcs optional. I still would have played through them but the pacing of the main story (which is freaking amazing for the first 25-30 hours of the game), suffers through the latter half. Characters seems to be self-aware of this too: "It took you a long time" - I know, Sigurd! Plus, without completing a few of the missions that they *do* make optional, the ending makes no sense.
-The meta-story elements (modern day, Assassins & Templars lore) are *chef's kiss*. Could have integrated them a bit more into the main story but after Odyssey, who's complaining?
-Ubisoft needs to bury Anvil Next in a hole in the ground. The dev team did a seriously impressive job building the game that they did in this engine but fluidity of combat and traversal suffer for it.

Setting: 9/10 - diverse world, interesting historical characters, mythology integrated in a sensible way
Soundtrack: 10/10 - they should have used that epilogue song more
Parkour/Navigation: 3/10 - Accessible, but not deep in any way
Combat: 6.5/10 - Bit rough in the early going, but it gets better and better as you go along and you can't argue how fun stun finishers are. The engine being too inconsistent and sluggish hold it back.
Story: 8/10 - Voice acting is good. Pacing becomes an issue later on. Villains are good. Eivor is just okay. Mostly is just reactive to what the characters around him/her do and is not driving the plot very much.
Performance: 9/10 I played on a VRR screen, so I didn't have the horrible dropped frames/screen tearing in cutscenes issue that I've seen on some gameplay footage. Impressively well polished for a game this large, this close to release. It has bugs for sure, but none of them were game-breaking.

One of my favorite AC games in years. Not perfect by any means, but very very good. A step in the right direction for future games to improve on. Props to the dev team.

O jogo tem um gráfico impressionante e um visual bem bonito, a história tem um começo interessante. A gameplay é bem parecida com a dos outros assassin's creed e não apresenta quase nenhuma mecânica nova.

The best thing about this game is the great story! The over-arching 'real-world' story salvages the mess the lore was in until this point and makes sense of it all while also leaving it open for future games. Even if it was a completely real to the world VR experience in the style of SAO, I doubt that I would've been happy. I like old AC, scratch that I love old AC. I'm by no means a "gamer", but Assassin's Creed is not only the first but the only videogame franchise that I actually fell in love with. I loved the stealth, the assassinations, the things that made it "Assassin's Creed". After the dissapointment that was Odyssey, I was thrilled that Valhalla would once again be in the more than capable hands of Ubisoft Montreal. With the writing team that made classics like AC Revelations and AC 4. Not only was the writing going to be fantastic, but Ubisoft Montreal had brought back the one and only Jesper Kyd, the man who wrote the music for all the AC games up until Revelations. In hyping myself up through the development I was constantly reminding myself that this would be a love letter to not just what AC had become, but what Assassin's Creed was. And I got the game, and I played it, and I was happy. A lot of people are complaining about a lack of Assassin's Creed elements, and I have to ask if we were playing the same game. If u want AC elements you have the option to stealth almost everything, even raids, social stealth is back. This game doesn't outright tell you to use these old AC elements, it's completely up to the player. So therefore it doesn't really make much sense to rate a game, because of your personal play style. You (the player), determines the amount of "AC elements" that you want in your game. The game gives you the elements, from hidden ones bureaus to planned assassinations, and it's completely up to the player to determine whether or not they want to use them. The writing is fantastic, even the mythological sections (which I greatly despised in Odyssey) felt like they had a point here. Everything you do moves the plot forward, from the normal world events, to main quests everything advances the plot. Darby wrote something truly special here, and while there are reviews talking about how grating the game can be after a couple hours, I found that upping the difficulty or switching out weapons always gave a welcome change of pace to the game no matter where I was in it. The music is absolutely fantastic, and genuinely might be one of my favorite tracks in any AC game. Gameplay isn't always fun and engaging, and I will admit there is a bit of jank. But it is gameplay that feels better than it looks. I think I've covered the 3 most important bases in any game: Story, Gameplay, and Music. Now to the negatives, this is a Ubisoft game, and I hold all blame towards the parent company of Ubisoft, not the subsidiary Ubisoft Montreal. Ubisoft tends to push out games earlier than they should so that they can make a quick profit, and I hate it. This game looks great, but I know that if Montreal had been given a couple more months they coulda turned out something like RDR2. The game is buggy, given a couple more months, these problems could've been solved. The combat is janky, given a couple more months it could've been better. The mocap looks a little bit off in certain places, given a couple more months this would've been solved. I think you know what I'm getting at. It's a game that's so close to being everything that I wanted it to be, but is held back by Ubisoft, and that just frustrates me to no end. It's these little things that add up and eventually dock the game about 2 points. The story is still great, and everything about it is pretty great. But it's by no means perfect, and thereby not exactly deserving of a full 10. An 8 is the perfect rating, to an almost perfect game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I started this game I was absolutely blown away by how pretty it looked, the first scene had me invested in the story and the characters. It wasn't long before I was spending hours exploring the mountains, finding all the mysteries, artifacts and treasures and having a total blast doing so. The leveling up system was good and it was simple enough to get myself to the levels needed to continue with the higher level missions once I reached England, which was also completely breathtaking. I really enjoyed the storyline, particularly the asgard plot. The final section with sigurd was brilliant. All in all this game was amazing. I had a lot of fun with it. The only complaint I have is there were a few small issues towards the end, a fe bugs that tainted my experience. Meaning towards the end I was getting to the point where I just wanted it to be over and done with so that I could spend the rest of my time finding the rest of the mysteries. Also the end of the story isn't particularly clear so I was confused that a few little things weren't tied up. However I would still highly recommend it and will no doubt play through it again! Love the journey you take with Eivor in this game. It looks absolutely amazing on the Series X (was initially playing it on the Xbox One and when I switched over could not believe how much better it looked). A game I will definitely come back to play the DLCs for.

11/20/20-12/18/20 (108hrs.) Finished everything in the game 100%, but not as great as I'd hoped it would be (I did have very high expectations). I definitely loved the Order of the Ancients hunting, the combat, and the abilities, as well as the Norse Mythology sections (Asgard and Jotenhiem), but the main story was dull and way too long.

I definitely loved the Order of the Ancients hunting, the combat, and the abilities, as well as the Norse Mythology sections (Asgard and Jotenhiem), but the main story was dull and way too long.

Overall story (spoiler-free): Eivor is a viking that gets sick of his/her homeland and runs off to England to set up a new home with his/her brother. England being separated into four kingdoms at the time has a bit of a mixed reaction to the new arrivals, but each kingdom has problems to solve, so he/she gets down to business of being helpful/murdering people.

Hardly any memorable side characters by the end, but I really really hope they get rid of Layla Hassaan. I didn't ever like the modern day sections in any AC game, even when it was Desmond Miles as the protagonist. I don't want to hear Shaun and Rebecca's eye-rolling banter or the extremely wooden acting of the lady that voices Layla.

I did like Eivor himself (as I played it), the Norse accent was spot on to my ear and his interactions made him seem very human and compassionate toward people in need, while also being a monster on the battlefield.

Clearly the lady Eivor is the preffered character for at least part of the story, as one whole chapter is dedicated to a very forced romance with a male character from Eivor's past. I have no problem at all with any gender relationship combination, but I've never seen a romance so forced into a story. They don't give you the option to shut it down until you've already been forced to flirt for a few hours. Romance in video games is already really weird and sketchy, you do not have to have romance in an AC story at all and it would be better for it.

The abilities were done really well, in that you have to find books in the game world to unlock them. So you really have incentive to search for more than just crafting materials. Particularly memorable abilities like throwing a rope spear to pull someone to you (Scorpion-style!) or summoning a wolf never got old through over a hundred hours. On top of a polished version of the combat that has been continually improved in the more recent AC games, I was often switching weapon combinations and builds to see which was the most fun, and they all held my interest for long periods of gameplay. The dual-wielding is an excellent addition as well.

The armor system is also quite improved from previous games by giving you less overwhelming options and making armor and weapons feel unique and worth upgrading. I wouldn't change a thing there, although my favorite armor (Berserker) was a microtransaction, so you can't win em' all.

There were a few glitches, which may be patched out over time. Quite a bit of awkward incorrect pronouns as male Eivor and the classic AC jumping in to thin air when you clearly didn't want to. Also had a glitch with Eivor staying in 'drunk mode' every time I loaded a save and the music getting stuck on the dramatic battle soundtrack. I did also lose a little progress due to a door not having an interaction icon when it should have.

I will be playing the DLC (Ireland and the Druids sounds too cool to miss) but I think the thing that would have made the game way better would be to cut the story down a bit. There is a lot of fluff that gets very boring and it outshines the climactic and exciting moments.

Great graphics on the Series X. Long story about 55 hours may be too long. a good story however it does get repetitive having to do all of the counties, good twist at the end and loved the norse mythology.

It is highly satisfying completing a story arc or traversing the world and finding things that you felt that other players might not have stumbled across due to the nature of the open world and its use of way finders. The lack of load times on Xbox Series S is truly impressive given the nature of environments, landscape, and elements that are present on screen. There were a few issues from characters floating in mid-air, bizarre enemy AI, and straight up freezes, although these were far and few between given the scope of it all. Intuitive and varied combat help keep things fresh, even if it does take a fair few hours of gameplay to really get going. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a thoroughly enjoyable, open-world RPG that is an absolute must for Xbox owners.

In many aspects Valhalla resembles most of Ubisoft’s games, but fortunately progression feels a lot more natural this time around. The game’s not perfect but I had lots of fun conquering new territories, plundering churches, and pillaging coastal villages while following a mature story and enjoying gorgeous, believable medieval Britain.
