Aphelion is an immersive galactic journey, albeit one with mixed results. Its art direction dazzles with striking landscapes, and its soundtrack provides moments of pure wonder. Yet, beneath this celestial beauty, the adventure also hits rough patches with an uneven pace, repetitive mechanics and gameplay that fails to take off. The narrative, ambitious at the outset, fails to spread its wings, and certain ideas remain in low orbit, never reaching the full potential we felt at first. The lack of narrative choices—surprising for a studio that has made this its hallmark—further reinforces the sense of linearity. Despite these limitations, Aphelion is a pleasant, meditative game, carried by two moving characters and punctuated by lovely moments. An imperfect odyssey, then, which will appeal above all to fans of contemplative sci-fi, ready to embrace a slow, introspective pace where emotion takes precedence over action.
