The Xenos are awaiting, and there's plenty of them to take out. Aliens: Fireteam Elite feels like the sequel to Alien: Isolation is the gaming version of Aliens to Alien. Aliens: Fireteam Elite drops you into tense and often chaotic firefights that engage your souped-up team of Colonial Marines against waves of varying Xenomorphs and Weyland-Yutani. It's meant to be played with friends and the gameplay mechanics that lend themselves to co-op play are simple and quite effective. Aliens: Fireteam Elite won't blow you away with its nuanced approach to gameplay or groundbreaking graphics, but it will keep you and a group of friends entertained. The story at the core of Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a sign of Cold Iron Studios's dedication to its source material. Any fan of the Alien franchise will enjoy picking up the random hidden lore items or getting a bit of exposition while aboard your ship. It's somewhat odd in the fact that there are no cut scenes or even animated faces in Aliens: Fireteam Elite. There's little to no dialogue from the character you choose to play as. Your character emits the occasional grunt, warning, or heads up while healing, but that’s about it. There is plenty of talking coming from Sergeant Herrera, who acts like this game's Cortana, directing you via comms from the safety of the ship. Aliens: Fireteam Elite feels like a solid arcade shooter. There's nothing here in the gameplay that will next generation wow you, but its core features have been tried and trued by its predecessors, and they work quite well. While you can pick from one of five classes, some of them feel a bit lack luster overall, especially the Doc. There are a few RPG elements, and the classes will definitely help make co-op sessions more fun, especially if everyone is fighting over the weapons only one class can wield. There are a total of four campaigns in Aliens: Fireteam Elite with each with three missions. The basic mission structure is as such: head through several spaces clearing aliens, arrive at a bigger space that requires you to set up perimeter defenses before triggering a gigantic horde, defeat that horde and end the mission. The overall setup or format can get a bit old, but Cold Iron Studios is banking on the variety that comes with co-op and many Challenge Cards to keep you from getting too bored. With the short campaign and focus on three-person multi-player I wonder if Cold Iron Studios should have implemented a share-play option like some other releases we’ve seen on the Xbox. Aliens: Fireteam Elite is just okay as a solo shooter, but the inclusion of friends makes the gameplay arcade bliss. As far as the curse of Alien games goes, Aliens: Fireteam Elite seems to have safely avoided that and this is a fun, frantic third-person shooter set out to a score you and your teammates. Xenomorphs will fall from the ceiling, scurry over the walls, and jump out of ventilation shafts almost ceaselessly, which makes for a really fun, fast arcade play. As a fan of arcade style games and it’s hefty reliance of multiplayer it’s a solid release by Cold Iron Studios and fans should definitely pick it up and even newcomers should ponder this release in the Xbox digital games store if you’re into arcade driven action like myself. Keep an eye on Cold Iron Studios, their release here is a solid one. Cold Iron Studios provided the game for purposes of this review, however that has no bearing on the enjoyment it brought and I definitely recommend this one to the many Xbox gamers out there. Expand

Fun and story rich for the die hard Alien fans out there. The job Cold Iron have done is impressive. Some triple A companies should take note.

Took another gamble at this game series coming out of the abomination that was Colonial Marines.
    Gotta admit, I'm impressed.

    Gameplay

It's good enough. Controls are smooth, activating skills is like a Destiny esque style of LB and RB. No super skills though but gives you very helpful passive perk. The lack of super skills I respect, these guys are not super heroes but your average grunts.

Enemies range from different Xenos to small ones that die easily, Drones that will come and grab you and retreat when injured. For the ones who like to speed run through will come across the Marauder xeno who will 'love' you to death if you stray too far from your team. I love when this happens to them because this is a team game and you need to stick with the team. You get the occasion Wey Yu android soldiers, face huggers and obviously the big bad mama xeno.

I've tried 4 classes and I'm sticking to the Doc or medic class only because they're a rare find in matchmaking (just doing my part). But that doesn't mean I'm a weakling, I've unlocked the Flechette sniper rifle and I'm one shotting bugs from afar while keeping the hard hitters alive. My second go to is the Demolisher or Heavy class. The Smart gun aka aimbot gun is very handy clearing out bugs in corridors. Technician is good for setting up defences like Sentries and slowing down advances with coil grenades. The gunner is the standard grunt which gives boosts to attacks. There is a 5th class to unlock once you complete the campaign.

    Graphics/Sound

For a small developer, they went all out in this department. Game looks beautiful running 60fps throughout. From the glossy reflective head carapace of a Xeno to the iconic sound of your Pulse rifle belting out 60 rounds full clip they kept true to the movies. Voice acting is a bit sub par and the radio noise can be overwhelming sometimes.

    Multiplayer

Multiplayer has been good to me connection wise. Matchmaking has matched me with players with equal level so can't complain. It's the finding is the hardest part, it feels like they don't have enough players and you revert to your AI android soldiers who are CRAAAPPP. You will not be able to finish the harder missions without real players. Hopefully, they can buff your AI friends in the next update.

Overall, I'm enjoying my experience with the game. It's a bit of a grind to level up but they unlock attachments and new guns so that'll keep me busy for the next month or 2.

For a $40 game, I’m willing to forgive a lot. And honestly, there’s not much to forgive here. The game plays great, I haven’t had any crashes or freezes and only a few disconnects early in the first few post-launch days. I wish it had $60 worth of levels but at $40 again, there’s a lot here. The game plays great, I haven’t had any crashes or freezes and only a few disconnects early in the first few post-launch days. I wish it had $60 worth of levels but at $40 again, there’s a lot here. The level design is a bit linear and I wish there were a few more surprises in where you go (sometimes your objectives will very slightly change to replays don’t get tiresome). The guns feel fantastic — especially the Pulse Rifle and SmartGun and the Shotguns are all impactful. There’s some loot elements to it that allow for customization of your class abilities and weapons to give you more freedom on how you play. The Doc character needs a full overhaul as a healer/support as his mechanic is a nightmare to play with random people not using microphones. Outside of that, this is a blast to play alone and better with friends. The bots are capable enough (but don’t do objectives) and will keep up in the kill count and accuracy/shot percentage. If you’re an Alien fan, definitely give this a look. It integrates elements from all the films and even Alien: Isolation. It’s a fun time, even if it’s not one that you’ll spend forever with. Looking forward to coming back as they add more classes and content. Expand

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is an honest, slightly above average online co-op shooter, drawing inspiration from the famous movie universe. The graphics may not reach the quality of the current top games, but it makes up for it with its fun and pleasant price tag. I didn't plan to buy this from its average review scores but Aliens fireteam suprised me with its excellent gameplay and decent visual presentation. Overall action gameplay is tightly made and it's clearly a work of passion for the developer here. Sadly there are no facial animations when the npcs deliver the rather good story and when combined with the lack of in engine cinematics its story feels more like a radio teleplay rather than modern cinematic videogame.( I assume this was for budgetary reasons!)

If you have gamepass its a no brainer to give it a try and see for yourself. Keep it tight people!

A fairly decent game. Has many flaws and it sure isn't a AAA title, but as a co-op is a lot of fun and we enjoyed it. It shows from many little details it's done with a lot of love, care and respect to the source material and that's what counts. I hope the team that made this game, gets a raise, both in production money and with adding developers.

If you’re in the mood for a game that delivers the kind of action you see in the Aliens movie, I think you’ll enjoy this game. It’s not as good as Alien Isolation, but it’s definitely had a lot of love put into it. The game reminds me a lot of the World War Z game, which I was a big fan of, only it’s in the Alien universe. The game is not perfect, but I had a lot of fun with it and will continue to for quite a while.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite reminds us of the mostly forgotten genre of movie tie-ins (even though this is simply a franchise tie-in occasion). It’s one of those games that mostly tries to capitalize on the power of its title, but at the same time it’s highly derivative in almost all of its aspects.
