Afterimage is a phenomenal non-linear adventure title. With an incredible story, amazing aesthetics, and slick combat, this shouldn't be missed. My only complaint is that the large world can be overwhelming.

Besides his amazing visuals, afterimage is a solid and balanced metroidvania that fans of the genre will fall in love into it.

Afterimage is a fascinating and content-rich metroidvania, capable of keeping us glued for dozens of hours through fantastic worlds, an elegant combat system, challenging bosses, and platforming stages to master. All beautifully blended and delightfully packaged, making Aurogon Shanghai's adventure shine as one of the best titles of its genre.

Afterimage is one of those games in which you’ll need to actively switch between different weapons based on the boss you are up against, because almost all of them feel good to use depending on the situation. While I found the exploration to be a bit tedious at times, I kept wanting to come back to discover more about the world and Afterimage as a whole.

I had a good time with Afterimage. Its levels got more and more interesting as you progressed, the characters you’d run into were well-acted and I liked the interactions Renee had with them. There’s a lot of game to go through with Afterimage, multiple endings in fact. And though I spent most of my time cheesing encounters because I could, and I take issues with the game’s presentation, there’s a strong gameplay loop that I think many players, especially those new to Metroidvania-style games, will enjoy in Aurogon Shanghai’s first venture into 2D action games.

A very nice metroidvania in terms of scenarios, drawn by hand. The character design and the artistic section are very good (somewhat saturated with details and colors but that's okay). suitable music. A lot of customization in terms of abilities (although for Renee's good you are going to activate them all yes or yes, if you want to survive). The platforming is very well implemented in physics and precision of jumping in certain places and the use of abilities to reach certain items. It is appreciated that the zones have names and recommend the level of the enemies. The game is very long and has 10 different endings and game plus +. An update adds the indication of objects by zone that helps you know if you are missing something that is regardless of whether you have already explored the map 100%

    Bad:
Another Metroidvania that does not propose anything new beyond the difficulty. Forget what you know about Metroidvania, here it is too but it will cost you to activate or obtain it. Hard achievements and what's next, while enjoying the ride. The story line is poor (the trip is pleasant and beautiful to see the locations but the justification is painful). The ridiculous location of the save points. The initial bosses and around the world are the least inspired and damage sponges. The Backtraquing is here but you have to earn it. The platforming in certain areas is brutal. The quest system moves you to the site protagonists so you have to search for them (they usually return to the cities)

    The Meh!:
Another Metroidvania More in this section, never seen before. That soul mania of putting the crosshead with the items for quick access, if you don't get used to playing it with the joystick you will end up foolishly consuming your items that you put there. The protagonist Renee reminded me a lot of Kiana Kaslana from Honkai Impact 3rd or a character from RWBY
