XIII was released back in 2003 and ended up being a big hit. It was a first-person shooter, clearly influenced by other console spy shooters of the time, such as Goldeneye on N64 but with a neat twist that made it stand out from the rest of the genre. Since it was based on an acclaimed Franco-Belgian comic book, its graphics were in cel-shaded visuals. The game was a critical darling back in the day, but considering its ultra niche appeal, it wasn’t exactly the most commercially successful shooter at the time. XII Remake is one of the worst remakes of the year. A huge disappointment to me personally as a big fan of the original game. The jerky frame-rate is one of my worst pet peeves in a remote unfortunately it’s present here, the laggy controls will also be a nit of a disappointment. I’d press the R trigger, only for my main character to ponder about the mysteries of life for a while, and then remember he’s inside a first-person shooter, being shot by ten mobsters in front of him, and then decide to actually shoot his weapon. The controls would occasionally go completely wild and have my character spinning in circles. At first, I legit thought that I was facing an issue with my controller, but after using anoher controllers and witnessing the same, I concluded that this was a glitch. XIII still retains the same voice acting from the 2003 original, meaning that famous celebrities like David Duchovny, Adam West (may he rest in peace), and Eve (that female rapper that sang a verse in Gwen Stefani’s “Rich Girl“) reprise their roles. It sounds a bit dated, sure, as video game voice acting wasn’t exactly that pristine seventeen years ago. But all in all, that might be one of few things that actually work in here, mostly because the developers decided NOT to touch it. That doesn’t mean that the rest of sound department gets a pass. Just like the rest of the XIII remake, it’s either mediocre or filled with glitches. The soundtrack isn’t a particularly serious offender, but it’s so bland that I would occasionally forget that music was being played in the background. What infuriated me, however, was how incompetently the sound effects were programmed in here. They’re either way too low and underwhelming or completely absent. There’s nothing more infuriating than grabbing a big shotgun, blasting some foes in front of you, just for the “shotty” not to utter a sound. I made sure to replay the original XIII on the Gamecube while playing this remake, and to my surprise, that one still holds up. It’s faulty, that’s for sure, but its issues were mostly a consequence of the technical limitations of the time, not sheer incompetence. The XIII remake is best described as absolutely incompetent. A game from 2020 shouldn’t look, play, sound, and perform worse than a 2003 title that wasn’t even that hardware demanding back in the day to begin with. I am baffled with how unfinished and unpolished this game is for a remake, I am sure many of these issues will be patched in coming updates but this was my honest feedback from the pre release version I experience on y Xbox One. This is how you remake a game, not this bs remake that they did with demon souls.

That's a terrible remake. First of all, developers completely removed the comics graphic with the 3d models, why would you do that? And not sure how but they managed to kill the AI completely, the enemies now are hilariously stupid. And did I tell that game is full of bugs? Well, it won't hurt to repeat it, since it's FULL of bugs. I would ask for refund if Xbox store allowed that option. Expand

It's completely unplayable due to constant screen tear on xbox one x. They forgot to activate v-sync? 100% unfinished product I've spent my hard earned money on.

Total crap. Unplayable. Frame rate is like thumbing through a bunch of still shots very slowly. Awful waste of money. Buggy as it can possibly be. These people showed be jailed for the theft of my hard earned money. Terrible game. UNPLAYABLE! Believe me.

This game is ugly. (original looks better in my opinion)
    This game is extremely buggy.
    It sounds bad.
    it plays bad.
Just buy the original, it's way batter.
This game should have been remastered not remade.

    Awful.
    Just purely awful.
This is a great cult classic and to see it treated terribly is heartbreaking.

Just an insult to the original, simple as that. Broken AI, lost the art style, the weapons feel terrible, ruined the main menu/home screen, the cut scenes are terrible, completely lost the comic book style, broken, buggy mess. Is really resource intensive so it lags even though it really shouldn't be.

Sadly not well done. Even thee original would play better and more natural this day. To top it off 4 levels in a gamebreaking bug ruined the game for me: guards spot me through walls and hit the alarm in an instant before i can lockpick my way in even.

XIII is a fantastic remake. Its simple approach, distinctive style, and interesting missions make this a captivating experience. Furthermore, you can choose your approach and tackle each level how you wish.

This game is utterly, stunningly terrible. If you ever wish to stop playing games, just try this one. Your decision will be that much easier.

You can easily imagine a world where the XIII remake is a success, but sadly this isn’t that world. Broken is about the nicest thing that can be said about this remaster that is somehow worse than the original.
