As you progress through the campaign you unlock new weapons and upgrades to your ship. Your ship can house two main weapons, and a Third Special weapon. The Main weapons create heat as you fire them, overheating causes you to be unable to fire until the meter empties entirely. The third weapon relies on ammo as it's much more powerful than your main artillery, ammo is sometimes dropped from destroyed enemies. The upgrades you can unlock do a variety of things, making your experience more manageable as you progress along the campaign. Some of these will increase the damage you can take, or how long it takes your weapons to overheat. The graphics are clean, with nice, satisfying explosions, and great sounds. There are 3 modes to play in, the campaign takes you along a path of increasing difficulty. Endless mode will have you fighting wave after wave, harder and harder until you are destroyed. Multiplayer allows you to use Local Live play to Co-Op with a Friend! XenoRaptor is a smooth and entertaining Shoot 'Em Up that should more than please any fan of the Genre! Expand

The controls are superb, and enemies explode pleasantly. If things were a bit more streamlined and a bit of polish was used here or there, then XenoRaptor could be a great little time killer. However, the shallow gameplay, painful visuals, the insane amount of time it takes to accomplish anything and the abominable splitscreen mode make it very difficult to recommend to even the most enthusiastic fans of the genre.

If the waves were a bit shorter, or if there was more variety in the gameplay – and no over-heating main guns – I could probably have stomached more time with XenoRaptor. As it is, before too long I found my mind wandering to one of the many other unplayed titles on my hard drive. In short bursts, XenoRaptor is fine, but there are far more enjoyable examples in the twin stick shooter genre already out there.

Although XenoRaptor doesn't do anything particularly new, it offers a culmination of exceptionally well-done gameplay elements.
