I have to respect The Old Blood for being genuinely good value. As a stand-alone game, it offers about the same level of content as The New Order but for a stand-alone DLC price. That means it automatically gets some points in the bag right away for its excellent game mechanics, pacing, AI, gunplay and game engine - offering a stable 60 FPS at 1080p with great sound and decent enough visuals. There's a few nice additions, such as a perk which shows all collectibles on the map, the bolt-action rifle, rocket pistol, some new enemies, a challenge mode and nightmare levels. There are 9 chapters, each with a nightmare level (which are some Wolfenstein-3D levels). Whilst it's nice to see a throwback to the game's early heritage as a pioneer of the FPS genre, they're actually quite boring to be honest. Lengthy corridors of shooting pixelated enemies that offer little to no resistance is not fun. When The New Order did it for just one little bit it was amusing but to have every level with them in is stale - especially as they're very repetitive, similar and no real design gone into them. Whilst game play is the same if not slightly improved thanks to some of the new weapons (but less perks due to the shorter campaign length), the level design is not as impressive. Don't get me wrong, they're pretty decent levels, but shorter than The New Order's and less exciting/adventurous. The challenge mode is somewhat disappointing, since it does not allow perks to carry over and they are just the exact same segments as encountered in the story. The scoring system is very barebones, only rewarding headshots and chaining kills together. Although simple and challenging, it can be frustrating having to restart and waiting for the level to load, since the gold medal target takes many attempts. My biggest let-down with the game is its story. There was almost none, with minimal use of cutscenes and no real character development. Whereas The New Order was a triumph because of its emphasis on the story, characters and game world, The Old Blood is more of a traditional corridor shooter. There's nothing wrong with that necessarily, given its pricing and intended purpose, however it may disappoint some fans of The New Order if they were hoping for more of a backstory. Overall I would highly recommend this game for its sublime gameplay and shooter mechanics, but it's not quite the "Blood Dragon" it hoped to be. It's not as comical or bonkers as I would've liked. However, it is a very solid shooter set in a cyberpunk WW2 - something that is rare nowadays. In terms of value for money, it is remarkable, but don't expect anything special. Just a good solid traditional shooter. Expand

Wolfenstein the old blood is one of the few times I just dont understand why a game is critically claimed. So lets begin with the positives (because I have so few ) first the game looks ok it wont blow your socks of but does not look bad by any stretch of the imagination. The same can be said for the gun designs and robots/mechs all looking slightly unique but not really something I can see staying with players once they finish the game.

Now for the negatives and the first point is subjective and may not apply all players and that is the difficulty (side note I played on bring it on difficulty setting which seems like normal). I personally feel this game is unfair often throwing you in to situations against atone of enemy's if you dont take out the two commanders. This would be fine but the stealth just isn't that great and if someone sees you even if you kill them without letting them shout to their teammates everyone in the area will come straight at you. You can be killed very quickly often taking chip damage in cover and even more when peaking out to kill enemy's this often lead to me being weakened until I died and had to try again often times I just snuck through and run when spotted. One way they could of made this game more enjoyable is if it had proper regenerative health. As the games current health system only regenerates to the nearest 20 interval so if you have 65 health it will go to 80 the problem is when your on low health and can get to a health pickup meaning your stuck at 20 health which can be dropped to 0 very quickly leading to annoying situations.

The story is generic at best with the player being an american spy who is in Nazi Germany to steal secret documents to change the tide of the war in which the Nazis are winning due to their advanced technology. This leads to the player trying to escape prison for the first part of the game ( the game refers to the two halves as parts) and chasing the documents during second part gunning down any Nazis who get in the way.

Overall I did not enjoy this game finding it annoying and just not that fun however I dont usually play first person shooters story modes usually sticking to third person games. This means I cant recommend anyone who is not a hardcore first person shooter fans or want an old school style shooter.

It lacks the full characterization and true dialogue of the first game but it nearly makes up for it with a plot that's simple, but works, and holds you throughout the game. The combat remains stellar and there are enough broader themes to hold you. An excellent prequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall MachineGames do a very good job with the pacing of the gameplay. There are no drawn out shootouts and not all stealth sections are forced onto the player. The gunplay again is tight and the guns feel heavy and powerful. Whether it is blowing Nazis to bits with the new grenade launcher or taking their heads offs with an auto-rifle, it is more than satisfying. The one negative is that once again ammo and items must be manually picked up.

There is a perks system that allows you to unlock abilities as you complete goals. For example, heavy machine guns cannot be carried in your weapon wheel until you get 200 kills with it. There are also perks for increasing

The one major difference between The Old Blood and The New Order is the distinct lack of narrative in this iteration. It seems that for whatever reasons MachineGames have decided to let the high-octane gameplay do most of the talking rather than cutscenes. While there is a plot here, it is very basic and the characters aren’t developed enough for the tragic moments to have any effect on the player. It seems as if some of the finer information is scattered throughout the world in letters, posters and newspaper clippings. If you want to take the nostalgia to the zenith, players are able to go back and play sections of the Wolfenstein 3D game.

For those that can’t get enough of creating Nazi carnage there is a challenge mode in which you can go back to various areas in the game to try and kill as many Nazi’s as possible in the allotted time for Gold, Silver or Bronze medals.

At the end of the day, The Old Blood is very similar to The New Order in many ways, but this isn’t a bad thing, because both games do a lot right and not much wrong. The graphics seemed to have been improved, especially the detail of environmental objects. The concept and world that MachineGames have created invokes the player’s imagination and gives us an extreme take on what the world may have been like if the Nazis really did win the war. Despite its fantastical premise, there is still just enough of an element of realism, a pinch of believability for which the developers should be praised.

But sadly, the great blend of gameplay and story that made The New Order great is missing here. This is a shame because in every other aspect The Old Blood is one hell of game. It just lacks the emotion and bravado that The New Order managed to convey with its superior storytelling.

Welcome to the game that made shooters what they are today. Wolfenstein: The New Order was my Game of the Year 2014, The Old Blood is in a good run to do so this year as well. I miss these action-packed games where the only goal you had in mind was finishing them with style, saving the world by running all guns blazing in small corridors, destroying the nazi regime all thanks to the hands of one man. MachineGames really showcased some amazing skills in game design, since they managed to refresh game mechanics that are up to 23 years old and still keeping them fun!

Let's put that simply... Wolfenstein 3D, released in 1992, was the very first first-person-shooter. And today, W:TOB takes all the codes of the old school shooters like huge inventory, corridor levels with several approaches (go stealth or go tank, your choice), solid controls and character movement, a lot of variety in the enemies you will get to fight, and most importantly... BOSS FIGHTS ! (yes, plural, and they are to remember).

But it is not only that... Where this game succeeds, is in the fan service. They even applied that to their business model, since you get a full game for only 20€/£20/$20 (just like the expansion packs we were accustomed to more than ten years ago...). Those of you who played Return to Castle Wolfenstein fourteen years from now will chuckle a lot, living very old memories all over again, meeting some old fellas, visiting places you've already been, discovering secret areas, etc... But the most astonishing part of it, is that you get to play Wolfenstein 3D all along, since they hid nine levels of the original game all along the campaign (man I suddenly feel older...).

Enough about the gameplay, let's now speak about the technique itself... Graphically, it is prettier than The New Order, with lots of different new environments, new character models for the new enemies, and a very solid and updated rendering engine. The new voices and actings are caricatural and funny as usual, but they recycled the weapons' soundbank and the enemy soldiers' phrases (and seriously, I don't care, they were all fine last year so using them again was no bad idea).

So there you have it, another Game of the Year competitor, waiting for all the players who were either too young or not interested enough in video games when that kind of game was common, or those like me who miss that golden age, when playing games was all about having fun and being a hero, living crazy stories.
And it is cheap, you have no excuses for not buying it.

As a £15 action romp Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is fantastic, but it doesn't stand up to the New Order. The characters and plot aren't fleshed out to their potential, leaving you with a solid and enjoyable shooter that lacks the same level of character as it's 'original' game.

Its a shame that games like these two arent as hyped or commercialized as much as other crap big budget games, i barely remember seeing commercials or tv spots or cross promotion for this game when it came out, these are the games that make this medium fun and unique, this really is a cross between inglorious basterds and pulpy nazi paperback u can pick up anywhere, its just fun as hell, they put effort in to every little thing, the walking actually feels like the character is walking, swaying a little side to side with every step, unlike games like Halo where it feels like your just gliding not walking, the guns have awesome sound effects and a meaty feeling to it when you fire them. The story is just enjoyable and fun for everyone i mean your killing Nazis, and also ZOMBIES! in single player! like red dead undead nightmare, they did it correctly. The main protaginist is interesting and says some funny things when your walking around the world instead of just being silent and only speaking in cutscenes, the graphics are awesome and pretty on Xbox One. This is a much shorter game, taking me a little less than 5 hours to complete with a less varied feeling campaign than the new order…
For the most part everything is the same, you have the same weapons, health and armour system from the new order.. though this time you have a crowbar pipe mix that you use to progress through the games world.
And annoyingly these progression moments with the bar make you drop your massive gatline gun you just picked up
The campaign feels like a very typical throwaway first person shooter compared to the new order..
the story feels much less personal, and because of that I really wasn’t invested in the outcome of this story or the games world..
It’s a lot of enemies around every corner like youd expect from a run and gun call of duty campaign..
Rather than the decently paced new order..
theres no breaks, no lockpicking, no climbing through different areas.. its just go forward and interact with things until the game is over, youre thrown right into the action non stop
Though I found myself being more stealthy this time…
As you are doing a lot of infiltration and there are giant armoured robot enemies patrolling areas, really cementing the idea of stealth in your mind.. and like the new order there are scouts walking around that will call for back up if theyre alarmed..
And with the constant dozens of enemies, its worthwhile taking these scouts out as your health and armour will constantly feel drained…
And I had a lot of fun sneaking around and taking them out with a silenced pistol.
the world of the old blood is actually really cool and a bit spooky..
The world design is easily my favorite part of this game as youll go from castle Wolfenstein, to a little villiage, to a graveyard, really mixing up the scenery to keep the game from feeling repetitive despite how repetitive it actually ends up being
and towards the end the game turns into a zombie shooter as youre getting to the bottom of an unleashed dark ancient power that the Nazis are trying to use for themselves…
The old blood has a cool campaign to run through…
But its nothing youll remember long after youre done…
Its essentially The New Order with none of the pacing or great storytelling..
Just mindless shooting for 5 hours…
    Take that how you will.
I give Wolfenstein The Old Blood
    a 7/10

More of the same and not necessarily in a good way, The Old Blood adds very little to its predecessor. It doesn't look better, the game play is essentially the exact same with no new mechanics and it takes what was the worst of a decent first game and expounds upon it.

The bullet sponge, mobbed by enemy areas are frequent, very frequent to the point of being never ending. In one area around the halfway point of the game you fight on a cable car which predictably loses power whilst you're mobbed from afar, then it hits a wall and you have to swap cars through an oddly populated control center with 15 or so enemies. Then you get to a cave section swarming with enemies, a checkpoint swarming with enemies then 2 mini bosses back to back then another section swarming with enemies. It's never ending and instead of being intense it becomes exhausting, samey and more of a "Again?!" sort of moment.

They rely far too much on the "Signal Received" roaming commander stealth sections from the very beginning and playing this a week after finishing The New Order which relied massively on them toward to end of the game for lengthening playtime it got very old, very quickly. I soon stopped caring about whether or not I could stealth my way too them and was more annoyed I was having to do this tired trope again.

Speaking of gaming tropes they're all here; lose all your weapons then get mobbed by enemies? Check. Fall through the ground on your way to a objective making it longer to get there? Check. The game massively lacks originality.

The storyline is very, very weak and I cared little about my tacked on ally or the obvious German Bad Guy who stalked me for the first half of the game. The story line being a surprising plus of the predecessor I felt like this was a let down.

Enemy AI is still rudimentary at best. If they don't stand next to their buddy when you shoot him they don't really care and more than once you'll turn a corner to have a nazi staring you down for a few moments before you decide to shoot him in the head.

Still the gameplay, repetitive as it can get is quite a solid shooter at its heart and of course the game costs next to nothing to buy so it's still good value even if it is more of the same. This is by no means a bad game but it remains that it is nearly identical to that which came before it. It's spoken of as a stand alone title, not an expansion pack so I don't think this is forgiveable. Faults are still there from before and little to nothing is improved.

Essentially the released the same game twice in my eyes and whilst they aren't charging much for the privilege of finding that out and whilst the game itself is certainly entertaining I'm not going to praise a game with such little effort applied to it.

For the record this likely would have been a 7/10 for me had Zombies...Nazi Zombies...Super Nazi Zombies who can fire guns not shown up for the last two chapters. A game I already considered to be lazy just absolutely plummeted in my estimation at that point. Throw in a ridiculous bullet sponge final boss, again with no health bar or obvious way of showing you're hurting it and the final third of this game really hammered my poor opinion of it home.

I decided to play the New Order and The Old Blood in order before embarking on what has been lauded as one of the best FPS of its generation in The New Colossus. I can only hope the sequel shows marked improvements on this formula because by the end of this prequel it was getting very, very old.

Wolfenstein the Old blood is an incredibly aggravating game. So most of the time, the optimal approach is stealth, however, enemies see you way too easily, and the moment they see you every goddamn soldier in the enemy knows your exact location and starts shooting your way. The unforgiving combat is alleviated somewhat in the second half of the game, where the enemies are zombies instead of Nazis, but by that point it's too late. The final boss is also complete **** why the hell are there so many goddamn Nazis and zombies alongside the final boss, it just made the final fight incredibly infuriating. The story is alright, just another Nazi infiltration with Zombie plot twist, nothing special. Overall, this game is just asinine in it's design and only seasoned Wolfenstein veterans should bother with this game. Expand

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a great tarantinoesque FPS. Unlike its predecessor, the shooter action is the pure focus. And that works fine with the Wolfenstein style. Less story, more nazi-shooting fun. Superb action with a pretty high difficulty level!

Finally the wolfenstein series deserve this prologue game cause the player need to see how the german empire destroys the world slowly with some crazy zombie idea in the end with a freaky bad story but in a good way.

Все последние три части Wolfenstein это шедевры на все времена!!! Бесконечные рекомендации, как всегда очень круто!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just two words describe this game perfectly - NAZI ZOMBIES. Yes, they are real. Yes, your main objective is to exterminate as many as you can. Indeed, it lacks the narration from the previous Wolfenstein game but still it is one of the best shooters I've ever played.

The only aspect that did quite annoyed me was the aim assist. IMO it should be more "smart".
Anyway, 9/10, runs perfectly on Xbox Series X.

So basic it verges on boredom at most points. Mainly due to the repetitive nature of all of the missions, how easy the actual gunplay was (on normal difficulty) to an extent where you can just run through enemies with very little worry for them shooting at you. Any attempts to break the flow of gameplay (nightmare levels) are uninspired and just add to the slog it is to get through. So basic it verges on boredom at most points. EN:
Short but extremely fun. A phenomenal weapon and a solid story. The shooting is great.

    SRB:
Kratka, ali izuzetno zabavna. Fenomenalno oružije i solidna priča. Napucavanje je odlično.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood works as a prequel to the new era of Wolfenstein titles and if you've played the previously released game, then you'll feel like it's more of the same.

Pros: +Great aesthetic & soundtrack +Graphics still look good, despite some harsh texture compression +Perks have been streamlined +Enemy A.I. feels more threatening & responsive than the previous one

+Story is delightful & an homage to the old Wolfenstein titles
    +Characters are interesting
    +Gameplay feels great
+Game is very well balanced even at higher difficulties

    Cons:
-Stealth still feels like the most viable option in most cases
-Texture compression can be immersion breaking
-Characters would benefit from a longer game length, specially the villains
-The twist that happens during the final act feels a bit strange
-Not nearly enough innovation to warrant a new game, instead of DLC

Overall, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood stands on its own two legs and works perfectly as either an entry point into the franchise or as a follow up to the previous title. While it lacks innovation, it seems to slightly improve on the established features, making them feel even better.
I recommend this game to anyone who's a fan of the Wolfenstein series or FPS's in general and is looking for some 6-8 hours of fun.

Pretty enjoyable, except for the final boss which was incredibly difficult. Interesting and atmospheric, great gameplay, and didn't overdo it with the ridiculous story like in The New Order (we get it, nazis are bad already). But besides that, this is just a dumb shooter with no substance whatsoever, fun for mindless killing. Not sure why it took over half the game to get to the zombies though.

The New Order’s returning gameplay carries the day here. The Old Blood’s story spends too much time trying to be a tribute to an old game instead of its own adventure
