I like the uniqueness that the swapping mechanic introduces because it keeps things fresh and it also makes you think about your next move. There’s a lot of diversity when it comes to the game’s levels and the variety in the levels means traversing and completing them is a very enjoyable affair. In terms of content there isn’t a huge amount for you to get to grips with and completing the game won’t take you very long at all. I would’ve liked more of a story present in the game because there isn’t much that the game gives to you here. The game features interesting mechanics I would’ve liked the gameplay to have had more depth because it doesn’t challenge you very often. From the moment I first saw Wenjia it did make me think about Ori so I was really excited about getting to grips with the game because if it was half as good as Ori was then I knew I was in for a treat. Thankfully it did give me a treat because it delivers a lot in certain areas and the presentation side of the game was beautiful to say the least. In fact it was that beautiful that I wish there was more of it but unfortunately the game isn’t blessed with much in terms of content. This is a shame because the content that is here is very good and I really enjoyed the unique swapping mechanic that was present in the game. I also really enjoyed the platforming elements as well because everything here remains smooth and responsive throughout your time with the game. I would however have liked to have been challenged more and also a little bit more in terms of a story would’ve been nice as well. That being said these little shortcomings still didn’t stop me from enjoying my time with Wenjia though and in the end the game gets a thumbs up from me because it offers you a fun and at times immersive experience. I'll start by saying this isn't a bad 6. The game is fine but to me it has already been done better. It is basically Giana Sister's Twisted Dreams with a completely different aesthetic. It just did it so much better, as Giana Sister's was much more fun. The fact that this has gone for a very chilled vibe, kind of clashes with frantic platform fun for me.

It does have an art style similar to Ori and I even got some Never Alone vibes from this, so if you are a big fan of that style then you will probably like this game.

It is well polished, with something that is important for me and that is tight, accurate controls. It looks nice, sounds nice, plays nice but that is it, it is just nice. It lacks wow factor. Am I glad I bought it yes. If it wasn't for having a PS4 that I occasionally get PS Now on (which has Giana Sister's bundled in and that was also on sale at the same time as this) then there would be no choice but as it is I don't need the same game on two consoles, so this is nice to add a bit of variety.and something a little different in my Switch collection.

Like I said at the start 6 is a good score. There is just not enough spark there to rate it higher, I'm certainly not going to put it up there with the likes of Ys and Fire Emblem and Garou but it is a great game and many others will probably score this higher if the chilled out vibe suits them.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Wenjia. Although I didn't fall in love with the story, the core gameplay mechanics and artwork kept me intrigued and satisfied during my review experience. I feel that if you're searching for a game with a solid story, you could look elsewhere, but, if you can see past this hiccup, Wenjia is worth your time. In my opinion, any game that looks as beautiful this game deserves your attention.

When it comes to tricky platformers, Wenjia's world-shifting mechanic makes it unique but the frustration factor can be super-high. Plus, non-perfectionists can easily finish its campaign within a couple of hours.

Ultimately, I think it would be best to pass on Wenjia. While the visuals are great, it's too short and there's too little depth in the gameplay to justify the price. When you consider that the game's levels also break and that there are some performance problems as well, you would be better off spending the extra $4.99 to get Ori and the Blind Forest.
