This 2D indie introduces main character Frigg as she’s arriving on Elk Island to apprentice in a woodshop for the summer. Once there, she’s soon introduced to the residents and becomes enmeshed in close-knit, small-town life. Welcome to Elk is a big bag of things, though it’s primarily a story about storytelling. It’s about how we take the bag of stories we’ve accumulated in our lifetime and use them as a material, like clay, to shape into things that help us survive. It's almost like a demo built around a second-hand story that was itself second-hand. So many layers of memory and interpretation in there, so much fuzziness and imprecision it's brilliant. The stark parts of the story get even more so and everything else gets vaguer. It's funny and horrible and genuinely dark while Welcome To Elk remains memorable too. This is such an easy game to recommend to all gamers, without spoiling it you will either like it or love it - I'm quite confident in the fact there's something here for nearly everyone to enjoy on their Xbox One.… Expand

    It will only take you a few hours to get through Welcome to Elk, but you’ll be thinking about it for some time after you’ve finished it. If that sounds intriguing to you, then I encourage you to take the time and experience something that’s not quite what you’d expect from a game.

    Welcome to Elk is an interesting biographical game about how stories help shape communities. It features some interesting mini-games and a good cast of characters, but the stories feel a little too personal and at times you feel like an intruder.

    Welcome to Elk is biographical adventure that oozes charm. It shines with humility and thoughtfulness, and it covers topics that other game would shy away from. Best of all, though, it does it with a softness and laughter that one wouldn’t expect. The topics dealt with in the game may be difficult for some, but those that shy away from the game will be missing out on an experience like none other. It may be short, but Welcome to Elk is an adventure like no other, and one that everyone should experience.
