    Vasilis on Xbox One is a very interesting take on an intriguing and social-political premise that is steeped in recent Ukrainian history. The visuals are really exciting and as a game it manages to tell so many stories with its abstract hand-drawn style mixed with the terrifying reality of the situation. The gameplay itself is less satisfying though and you may well find yourself lost far too many times.

    Vasilis isn’t going to revolutionize gaming, but as an art form you can’t knock the creative style Marginal Act were aiming towards. Unfortunately slow and confusing, this is a title for the players that don’t mind a bit of experimentation in their play experiences.

    Vasilis is a Hand Drawn Item Puzzle Exploration Game. You play as Vasilis an elderly Woman setting out on a quest to find her long-deadVasilis is a Hand Drawn Item Puzzle Exploration Game. You play as Vasilis an elderly Woman setting out on a quest to find her long-dead Husband, whom for some reason isn't so dead lately. You will navigate her home town which is in a constant state of anarchy, buildings burning, people rioting, schools shut down, and work being halted at every corner. The game is heavy, from its monochrome art, and the chaotic world filled with strife, to the daunting tasks of fetch quests. The entire game, which isn't too very long, reminds me of playing Deva-Vu as a child on the NES. Talk to this person to get this item, find that item, trade someone for other items, most of which are in turn traded for yet another item. Along the way, you will piece together the story, and learn what is going on in the Lady's dark world. The scripting is a bit weak and is unfortunately riddled with typos. Vasilis' husband Peter is spelled many different ways, sometime you'll see different spellings in the same set of text, like Petr, Petyr, and Peter are all visible on the same page of her journal. This journal though is an extremely useful tool in remembering what you've done and need to do. If you aren't a fan of Fetch Quests, this game is not for you, as the story revolves around them. For those who enjoy unraveling a story while exploring the possible options along the way, Vasilis, though linear in story, delivers this experience.… Full Review »
