With a game so heavily invested into its narrative and lore, there’s a mountain of text to get through, great for those that love to read novels, not so much for those that want to simply play and progress the story. Undungeon can become punishingly difficult at times, especially when you aren’t focused and hit a bad streak of deaths in a row, yet there was always something bringing me back, wanting to give Herald one more go to fix the shattered universe, especially once you unlock a new character to play as.

UnDungeon is a fun action RPG, inspired by a fascinating and intriguing world. The gameplay, while fun, is repetitive, and the progression system simplifies as you advance in the experience.

I can see, and applaud, the scope and vision, but Undungeon is ultimately let down by failing to be what we want a game to be – fun.

I entered it with such high hopes too because I loved how weird and original it looked, with gameplay and aesthetics that remind me of one of my favorite games, Hyperlight Drifter.

Well, it gets a point for the very strange setting, but originality doesn't count for much if the gameplay is bad, and the gameplay here is wretched. It's overly complicated and very messy. It doesn't flow smoothly at all. In fairness, I stopped playing early on, as they saddle the player with escort missions, which along with the poor gameplay, just completely killed my interest in the game.
