    A “chore” is the best word to describe UglyDolls: An Imperfect Adventure. Just because a game is aimed at children isn’t an excuse for lazy, uninspired design. With a boring world, mind-numbing and repetitive missions and a waste of its source material, this is one game not worth your time, no matter what your age.

    I doubt that I need to admit that I was happy to see the credits roll on UglyDolls: An Imperfect Adventure. While I went in with an open mind – as someone who’s played a lot of kids games and been impressed by more than a couple – I never enjoyed my time with this one. All it did was make me wish I was playing other games, even mediocre ones that I’ve yet to finish. It’s nothing but a series of incredibly repetitive and forgettable fetch quests that offer little in the way of fun, and comes with an absolutely absurd price tag to boot.

    UglyDolls: An Imperfect Adventure is an action adventure video game based on the popular toy brand UglyDolls. The game is being released alongside the upcoming UglyDolls movie. Although, An Imperfect Adventure isn’t tied to the plot of the movie. UglyDolls: An Imperfect Adventure takes players to the town of Uglyville, an unusual, colorful world inhabited by talking dolls called UglyDolls. The dolls are considered imperfect when compared to the beautiful, perfect citizens of the nearby town of Perfection. Uglyville has been overrun by robots from Perfection, who are causing chaos on the streets and making it unsafe for UglyDolls. Players will need to help the UglyDolls defeat the robots and send them back to the town of Perfection. the world and characters of Uglyville are clever and fun, although the gameplay is a little shallow for adults, it will no doubt fill the hearts of many children and fans of the nearly 2 decades of toy lovers. It relies on an incredibly simple gameplay sequence that loses its novelty over time. Each mission is Playing as either Moxy or Ox, players are then asked to leave the Teahouse named "The cave" and find at one or more UglyDoll(s) somewhere in town. Each doll will ask players to complete an item collection or crafting quest before they can be recruited back to the Teahouse (or home base) to join the fight against the robots. Players complete this task and return to the Teahouse then basically rinse and repeat. The game’s stages are procedurally generated, so the streets have a different layout for each mission. Fortunately, players can craft a "search balloon" among many items, that will highlight a collectible on the game’s map. This also triggers a waypoint marker that will guide you where you need to go. The gameplay is easy for young players to master, but they’ll need to be able to read to keep up with the story, since only the primary cut-scenes are voice acted. The game also supports two-player local co-op which is a nice addition for households with more than one UglyDolls or Xbox fan, so two players in the same room can team up and play together. The game is a little on the short tag as it can be completed in a handful of hours depending on the players skill level. The price of admission may be a but steep but in the end you're paying for the licenses that unfortunately drive the price of the game up. All in all not a bad children's game, or a good quick play for achievement hunters looking to rack up the gamer score for a quick completion.… Full Review »
