I'm new to Tropico, so I will try to describe it to others who may be new to the franchise. To me it's an interesting mix of SimCity and Civilization.

It's like SimCity, with less building options. And Civilization with less military options. You build up your military units, but you don't have much control once the fighting starts. Your military can do serious damage to your foes

Your military can do serious damage to your foes government or finances. It also has political factions to work with. Like Civilization you research tech government options. They throw in political comedy and plenty of quest, with some subtle financial complexities and you end up with a solid game. It also some solid South American style music if your into that.

So if your looking for a city builder for XB1 this is probably your best choice. It has many options for difficulty choices. You can also play co-op, PVE or PVP online. It's competitive stuff can be for points or include military tactics. It also has a sand box, campaign and mission modes. This game is a solid city builder, and fills the void while we are hoping Civilization 6 eventually makes it to console.

This game is very addictive and at times frustrating, I would definitely recommend playing the tutorial (if this is your first tropico experience), Once you jump into the game there is a myriad of ways to build your island paradise and govern your people, and more options open up through research. There are a few issues that annoy me: the menu screens are confusing, the music gets tiresome, and it takes years to research some necessities (tanks, embassies, and dry docks) you're literally an hour into a scenario before these become available. Also the road construction is tedious in some areas and the battles seem like random luck. But otherwise, I'm loving this game and recommend it to anyone who's into sims. Expand

Tropico games are always fun to play and will keep your attention for hours. Tropico 5 is probably the best game in the series and although the controls are better on pc and some DLC is not included it's still well worth a look.

Been a fan of the Tropico series since 3 and 4 on the xbox 360. This game is just as good and with the many eras expands on the great game. Add in the DLC and you'll have hours and hours of fun on challenging maps.

EL PRESEDENTE IS BACK ONCE AGAIN!!! He might be back, but the game took a step back. The visuals were improved, but the gameplay didn't. I dont know why they just didn't keep doing what they were doing with Tropico 4. Tropico 5 seemed watered down and limited compared to 4. I still had fun playing this game because, well, it is fun and the narrator is funny. This is still better thanEL PRESEDENTE IS BACK ONCE AGAIN!!! He might be back, but the game took a step back. One of the best options on Xbox One for a genre that it's almost forgotten. The game may not be perfect, but it's fun and very enjoyable on its solo campaign.

Tropico 5 on consoles is a great port. It's a faithful recreation of the PC classic and a welcome addition to the scant city builders console players can enjoy.

Don’t expect any revolutionary changes to the two year old PC release. But with added content, optimized controls and a solid core throughout you’ll find yourself spending more time on these islands than originally expected.
