Developed by Team Ladybug, creators of multiple fantastic action games thus far. Fun metroidvania with a time stop mechanic and a small story with dialogue between several characters. The boss battles were the highlight of the game for me. You will spend most of your time platforming and figuring out the best way to dispatch each enemy type. The game isn't to long and relies on backtracking in most areas after acquiring new abilities and items. Each new area is more challenging than the last, but there is also a levelling system with some stats, so if you get stuck you can potentially grind out some levels and try again. Enemies also drop gems, which can buff your stats if you collect enough of them. There are also hidden items which improve your stats permanently. Overall a great little game for those who enjoy action platformers. Super highly recommended for Xbox gamers! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think, I've found my favourite game of all time, I've only got into Touhou Project a couple of months ago and found this game on the Microsoft Store, I am SO glad I got it. Luna Nights has your basic Metroidvania Elements of "Explore a big map while doing light Platforming and fighting enemies to look for either a boss or item to progress." The twist for this game compared to other Metroidvania's is the main characters ability, Sakuya can temporarily stop and or slow down time for either easy hits on enemies or to get to higher place by jumping onto knives while time is stopped, and it's an incredibly fun mechanic. There are 7 (Counting Boss rush) Stages all taking place in different parts of the Scarlet Manor (Except Stage 1,6,7) Examples being the Library or Clock Tower and they all look stunning for bit, new enemies are thrown in every new stage and they're. . Okay the fairy maids are reused in every stage and one of the fairy maid types use a MOUNTED GUN but other than that, pretty unique and fun to fight. The soundtrack, though all of the music is remixes of past themes in the series, is Incredible, each theme for a boss or area sets the tone perfectly, corridors + the maid and the pocket watch of blood = Awesome! The story in my opinion, is good Spoilers! Remilia creates a fake Scarlet Manor/Gensokyo for Sakuya & (Said Character who I shall not mention) to mess around in. However Sakuya's powers were sealed away (and yet she can beat Character who would even beat her when she has her abilities fully, I know (SAID CHARACTER) jewels make sakuya stronger but they only become useful in stage 6) to prevent her from. . Cheating? I think it's alright, It's like any other Touhou story, you play as Character, you get given goal, you follow goal and beat boss, then final boss and win. If I have to complain about anything in this game, it would be a certainly be a lack of extra modes, compare to bloodstained which already has multiple Characters to play as, a speedrun and boss rush mode, Extra modes to be added in future, all luna nights has is boss rush and I guess Stage 6? Having a mode where you play as a different character, like flandre with her wand of destruction or something heck it wouldn't make sense but Youmu would be dam fun,. i should probably stop now I've typed over 2300 letters, well, buy the game give Team Ladybug your money if you like Metroidvania's and pray with me that they'll add extra. An awesome metroidvania game with some good puzzl and boss designs, And the game also look beautiful handsome amazing pixel art and animations and the flow is also good and it's also pretty short so it's not too much of a bother to complete it so I would recommend it wholeheartedly

    The good:

Mechanics of stopping time that gives a very interesting touch to the genre since with a certain combination of skills you can generate platforms with your daggers and reach apparently inaccessible areas. Pixel art and 2D Sprites very well detailed and fluid. Mechanics of stopping time that gives a very interesting touch to the genre since with a certain combination of skills you can generate platforms with your daggers and reach apparently inaccessible areas. You have an interesting risk/reward mechanic in which you must face the enemies or their attacks and in this way you recover life, also when you stop time and get close to the enemy you recover Magic, this mechanic is of vital importance to master when facing bosses that fill the screen with objects, attacks and garbage. The game is longer than you think (After Flan, don't leave as there is more). You can access the shop at any time if you have a ticket which will make Nitori look for you and buy things, it works even against bosses. It's on Xbox Game Pass.

    The bad:
It is a loose Metroidvania, the "hidden areas" are in plain sight. Difficult achievements (not recommended for achievement hunting. Boss fights turn into Bullet Hell with attacks Covering the screen, lots of things floating and moving around, and things ready to hurt you. The difficulty of the bosses is way off the scale (Except Hong Meiling at the door.) You have to be well prepared to face Flan because then you face someone else right there with the energy and items you have left. The logo is horrible (with so many fan arts and character design and they put some letters or Izayoi with a poorly drawn background, total fail)

    Lo Meh!:
A metroidvania that can be entertaining but can also be frustrating due to the surgical location of traps and enemies. If you don't know anything about the Touhou Project, you probably won't understand anything that happens, neither the relationships, nor the jokes, nor the winks, nor the twists (if you want to enjoy that at least, read a wiki or a short Touhou story). I understand that Hong Meiling is the one who guards the gate of the mansion but being the first boss she is very weak and in Touhou lore she is at the level of Flan, Remilia or Patchuli. At the end of the game completely, you open the Boss Rush mode (many will not see this mode because either they did not finish the game or after defeating Flan they left the game for peace)

you only need one word to describe this game.

    FUN.

And that's it. This isn't some wonder game with super stealth mechanics, some stupid hard difficulty for "pro gamers only", or uber dramatic story. No grand political statements. But it is a game I meant to try out for half an hour and wound up spending 6 hours straight playing.

One of the greatest games in xbox game pass. The only negative thing about this game is that it is very short and leaves you wanting for more content. Do you want some advice? Just play it!!!!!!

It’s not a perfect game but it is fun and provides a decent challenge. The waifu maid thing may be off-putting for some, but you don’t need to watch or even like anime to enjoy the gameplay. So if you have a free weekend and need a new game to check out, Touhou Luna Nights on Xbox One might be the answer you are looking for. It also doesn’t hurt that it has an incredibly catchy soundtrack.

Touhou Luna Nights takes the visual style of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and mixes in a unique blend of puzzle-based exploration and combat to create one brilliant Metroidvania. I highly recommend it to any fan of the genre.

Touhou Luna Nights is one of those video game experiences that feels all so familiar but is executed so well that you can’t help but enjoy what it offers. Sure, every game should aspire to reinvent the wheel or try to emulate the best qualities of standard-bearers, but games like this simply recapture the magic and feel of genre classics. In this case, it’s the sublime composition of some of the genre greats, but this time you’re one classy maid who’s excellent at throwing knives.
