Those Who Remain is a First-Person Horror Adventure. You are Edward, and you've come to this ramshackle motel near the town of Dormont to break it off with your mistress and try to make right the life you're destroying with your family. Figures with glowing blue eyes linger in the darkness, greeting you with long knives if you dare enter their shadows. Seriously, walking into a place that's just a bit too dark is rewarded with instant death. With your checkpoints few and far between, this can make gameplay frustrating as you could be sent back to have to replay quite a bit, and you sidestep one time into a shadow and have to do it all again. The game plays hard on this darkness, as a lot of the game's puzzles will have you dealing with it, like knocking things out of the way to let light pass or finding a small object in a darkened room. The reticle has it's tricky moments, and you will be digging through a lot of drawers, that if you aren't pointing precisely at the object, you'll likely close the drawer. There is a ton of fun and inspiring concepts that are unfortunately lost in the frustration the game can induce. The game has multiple endings based on the decisions you make along the way. A decent horror game can be found here beneath the frustrations that fans of the genre should appreciate. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a horror fan, this game caught my eye for its interesting premise and really eerie atmosphere.

The first few levels are nice to play, with "the others" being really creepy and ominous.

However, as you progress, the game becomes more dull and suddenly quite more difficult for no reason whatsoever.

I finally decided to quit playing on the chase scene of the post office level, after more than two dozen retries.

If it weren't for the very ineffective interface, lack of instructions and ridiculously difficult "boss" levels (in which your sole objetive is getting an item to progress through the game), this might have been a very good game.

The developer def gets A for effort. This was one of the hardest games for me to complete because of how broken it is at times. I got through the whole game as I wanted to see the rest of the story. I cannot recommend this game to anyone. While Those Who Remain will only last a handful of hours, depending on how much searching you need to do for the items to progress constantly, the gameplay loop is quite dull and never really changes. I did enjoy the narrative once I started to figure out what’s going on and what Edward’s involvement was, but I eventually just wanted it to end. Sure there are multiple endings to encourage multiple playthroughs to make different moral choices, but I was good once I the credits rolled the first time.

On the technical side, Those Who Remain is a disaster. An unplayable game that must be updated as soon as possible to enjoy it at all. In the other hand, we find a proposal that does not create anything, but proves to be interesting

Under the appearance of a game of terror as the canons command, there is an experience that promises to test our capacity for judgment while bringing out our greatest fears.
