This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As much as I have loved the walking dead telltale games this one just didn't do the series justice, I did think the story was good, but it felt very rushed. Another part that brings the game down is AJ for me he was the worst character in the series and I honestly felt like he ruined my experience in the game, if you like AJ good for you but for me he just rubbed me the wrong way and destroyed any chance of this season being somewhat good. A masterpiece. There aren’t many games that have kept me so interested in a story. Have to be honest: when I started playing the first game of the series I thought it was just going to be another boring ‘telltale’ game with insignificant choices and fake decisions. I was completely wrong, and this game is a worthy finale to the series. Absolutely a masterpiece

A touching story and the best game in the series. Clementine is solidified in the gaming character Hall of Fame. I can't think of a better way to send off a franchise as beloved as this one. Thank you TellTale for this experience and thank you SkyBound for seeing this game through!

An unforgettable ending to the series. The plot is interesting and the new characters are fun. However, AJ establishes himself as an all-time great character. His curiosity, the decisions he makes, and having a hand in raising him will stay with me for a long time.

This game imo and in most people on The Walking Dead subreddit just as good as Season 1 and maybe even better, the only bad things is that there was only 4 episodes but apart from that this is my 2018 GOTY(even though so loved Red Dead, also I wasn't feeling God Of War)

The whole series has been very consistent in terms of quality. However, things were starting to get repetitive with Clementine getting involved with yet another group of people that just can't get along. Also, I just couldn't warm up to A.J. and that's a big problem since he's front and center as Clementine's main responsibility. I found him to be really pugnacious and obnoxious to much of the time, especially for his age. I surmise A.J. is about the same age Clementine was in the first season of the series and on her worst day she was never as difficult as A.J. is every day. This is one of the few games I made it through all the way without getting stuck and needing youtube help. So, in terms of difficulty the whole franchise was a moderate challenge. And the controls were very simple. Every game should be this easy to play. Of course, it's all about Clementine and she's just a wonderful and heroic character. Expand

This is a hard game to review all in all. As a big fan of the previous games, sure they got slowly worse (and the Michonne game was a bit meh) but they were still good. This reminds me of Fast & Furious 7 where I think people gave it better reviews than it deserved purely because of the emtional ending. As a big fan of the previous games, sure they got slowly worse (and the Michonne game was a bit meh) but they were still good. This reminds me of Fast & Furious 7 where I think people gave it better reviews than it deserved purely because of the emtional ending. I won't spoiler anything and baring in mind this is the "Final Season" and it's the Walking Dead you know it's going to have an emotional end, but my God, I absolutely balled my eyes out at this. Worse than the ending to the first season, probably more than any game I can think of (although admitidly that's a short list).
The genuinly found the majority of the first 3 episodes rather dull. 1 and 3 both have good endings and the "romance" bit is quite well done but in 7-8 hours of gameplay that's not alot. Part of the problem i think aswell is making the episodes longer. Every other game had minus 2 hour episodes, some even barely an hour, but that meant little padding. With the episodes being almost 3 hours a piece it feels way too long. It's certainly no Life is Strange in that respect.
Then episode 4 happens and WOW! It is shorter, which maybe helps, as nothing drags. As I said it's an emotional finale, it's borderline perfect. So many "final" seasons of TV shows are a let down (see GoT, Lost or House) but this isn't. But herein lies the problem.
Episode's 1 through 3 are 4 or 5/10 at most where as Episode 4 is perfect 10/10 easily!
I'm aware this doesn't average out to 8/10, but I feel the finale deserves it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay so as a fan of season 1, and playing all seasons i think I should share my review since this is the last season. So where do i begin, fist thing is that we have clementine as the main character to which I LOVE and her story continuing on but now with “her” child AJ (even though she didn’t really give birth to him but more was forced to due to both of his parents dying). But like always, she meets some new characters from a bordering school left to fend for themselves back when the zombies first showed up. Some of the characters are like Violet, Louis, Marlon, Tenn, Brody etc. As you meet them and you feel good about them, you learned that the leader Marlon was actually a bad person. After finding that out you try to overthrow Marlon trying to show the rest of the group how bad he is to which no matter how you play that scenario out, AJ shoots him. This then causes everyone except for either Violet or Louis to try to kick you out to which works. As clementine and AJ get kicked out, you meet a recognizable voice and fave of Lilly from season 1 which was SO cool even though she was the main villain in the story. As the story continues, you can get Clementine to either be dating Violet or Louis or maybe none of them if you want to which i also LOVE. The main thing that really i loved about this whole game/series is that Clementine actually has CLOSURE in her story and it’s honestly a good closure with her being happy with her “optional” lover and being a leader but most importantly, she can now be a mother figure to AJ and teach him and be a mother like he never truly got to have. Another thing I should give appreciation too is the characters like Violet, Louis, Tenn, Asim, Ruby and even Rosie. Even those characters are not as good as the ones in season 1, they are probably out of all of the 4 seasons, the 2nd best of characters. However, I loved Lilly being the villain, I think the while survival of the fittest type is kinda boring. Especially when you’ve been using that same archetype of villain for i think 3 seasons or maybe even for every season. Another thing I actually found really enjoyable and cool is when Minnie singed the song on the bridge. It was weird at first but after plying it again and all, I actually founding it quite cool and interesting at least. All in all, great final season and just a GOD DAMN great series (except for season 3). Wish this game had more of a exposure to people cause it deserves all of the love it gets from fans. Expand

The game succumbs to some of Telltale's typical issues (RIP Telltale btw), but overall this is a tragic, cathartic, and highly satisfying conclusion to the story of Clementine that gives you a ton of difficult choices.

The final season of The Walking Dead The Telltale Series is a masterpiece like seasons 1 and 2. With a satisfying ending, new and memorable characters and unexpected events. Exactly what a TWD game should be.
I can easily say that production team has learned from the mistakes made in New Frontier

Thank you for all the memories you made for us, Telltale

Given the circumstances and everything that has surrounded the development of this fourth season, we can say that The Walking Dead: The Final Season is a more than worthy closure to the story of Clementine started 7 years ago.
