Fans of the LEGO series will no doubt be satisfied with the amount of content that’s available. It will keep you more than occupied for hours on end. The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame wasn’t my most enjoyable LEGO experience, but it still provided me with fun and enjoyable moments. Right off the start, you’re introduced to the usual LEGO style presentation and this is always good, because I’ve always enjoyed the style that’s present in both the visual and sound design present in the LEGO games. I don’t like though are the technical issues that come along with it and once again they’re unfortunately present here (mainly controls). I was however able to look past these issues during my play through and it kept me occupied because playing as each character was a fun and different experience. The story I did lose some interest in it a few times during my time with the game. The content the game rectified the issues presented and I started having fun because there’s plenty to see and do with all of the customization throughout. Even though the LEGO formula isn’t as fresh as it once was it still does enough to bring back my fond memories of playing with my legos as a child, and if you look past the small issues that are present I’m sure you’ll enjoy what The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame brings to the huge franchise. If you have played the LEGO series in the past you've come to know what to expect, if you haven't then the price point is more in line vs the traditional full retail price tag on the LEGO new releases. Thumbs up! Expand

This LEGO game is a lot like LEGO City. Instead of playing through the levels of the game (which would highlight scenes from the source movie) this just has you doing "quests" in each world. Unto itself it would be OK although LEGO games are better when they stick to the source.

This LEGO game is a lot like LEGO City. Instead of playing through the levels of the game (which would highlight scenes from the source movie) this just has you doing "quests" in each world. Unto itself it would be OK although LEGO games are better when they stick to the source.

What makes this one of the worse LEGO games in a while is the features that were added and the bugs. In an attempt to make this fresh and new they removed everything that made the old LEGO games fun. There are no more red and gold bricks to collect. instead you either find or are given magic bricks as you complete quests. These are not used for anything other than unlocking a final world and moving the story along (because you have to get so many before you can go to the next world). Red bricks are replaced by red equipment that you can put on (one at a time). No more x2 multipler or character detector here.

This is where this game goes from traditional to "over the cliff" bad. You can smash glowing chests (which regenerate by simply moving away from them and coming back) to get studs (which are mostly useless) and "relics". There are several different types of relics that give you characters, items or stuff to build. The problem is that they are completely random so you will get more and more dups as you open more. Furthermore the relics can only be opened by going to a store so after you traverse a world you'll then spend an extra 10 minutes at the store opening each relic and sitting through the same cut scene each time. This is beyond boring. Then you will likely find that you already have the item. If you have a dup then you get a "gold relic part" instead. Get enough of these and you get a gold relic that contains 3 items, one of which should be unique. Rinse and repeat. I have no idea why this system was added or how this is fun but this is one of the dullest activities I've ever sat through in a LEGO game. It adds absolutely no value but you have to do it otherwise you cannot unlock (eventually) characters and builds you need to move on. This idea needs to be buried and never brought back up as a good idea ever again.

Given the "relic" stuff you no longer have any special character abilities. It is completely generated by the items you have. As such there is no reason to switch characters. This is a good thing because all but the core story characters are generic anyway (pizza guy, Bob, etc). But since any character can do everything why would you switch?

Given the large amount of things to do you pretty much need a checklist if you want to do it all. The only detector available is locked behind the random red relic generator so it could take you minutes or days to get it. Even then it is only useful for the magic bricks. I thought we had moved beyond games that required you to manually track 400 collectibles?

Finally this game is buggy. The camera angle seems to have taken a step back. As you get too close to scenery (which you do all the time as you climb stairs, go into tunnels, etc) the camera basically goes out of control. It is like a student project that they borrowed for the game. Aren't graphics programmers supposed to have solve these kinds of problems a decade ago. This just screams amateur or rushed. Given the bad camera angles you'll fall off into scenery a lot. In some cases it is harmless, in others you die.

If you were to place all the LEGO games out and asked someone to find the earliest this game seems like it would be a contender. The oddball design decisions, the bad camera angles, the lack of any real story and the lackluster character list scream of a first attempt. Yet this is the latest LEGO game. Unless you are a LEGO fanatic skip this game and go replay one of the good ones.

I feel that this game is a great first story game for the Lego Worlds type gameplay. Granted, it is very easy, but being a huge Lego fan really makes me excited for what will come in the future. I feel that all of these bad reviews are from people that have not beaten at least 3 Lego games. Hope to see more in the franchise.

I was reluctant to buy this game because there were quite a few negative reviews and so I waited for a sale. I have played every single Lego game, some of them twice on my 360 and Xbox One and this is one of the better ones. This game has restored my faith in the Lego franchise as I really love them and will probably not feel compelled to wait for a sale next time. Please keep them coming. These are the only games that I always look forward to playing and even though there are small issues with most of them I always end up having fun. There is always a lot of creativity and imagination put into these games and on top of that they are very funny. They usually have a lot of respect and knowledge of the source material and I feel they could make a Lego game out of almost any work of literature and do it justice. That would be great if the team branched out a bit and brought us something completely new. There are a lot of Lego fans out here waiting for more. Expand

Biggest disappointment I've ever played, as someone who grew up with the original Lego Movie Game and loved it, I was devastated to find that its sequel was incredibly unfun, dull, glitchy, and had boss fights stolen from Super Mario Galaxy for some reason. Just play the original.

That's the worst Lego game that I ever played. The story is boring, you can't build anything, there is no missions, its all like a ''open world thing'' with no cutscene. It dosen't feel like a Lego game at ALL. The game is very short too. 8 hoours ti finish it, and 10 to complete all the Achievements. I think that its a Lego that should be forgetten.

    Positive things ; + Nothing.

The Lego Movie 2 Videogame rarely pushes the player to do anything other than go into their building menu to select one object, and ends up being a shockingly bland experience in a series that has been mostly consistent in doing fun things with different properties. Interesting to play only with friend

The levels are well-designed, whilst the questing, building freedom and gathering of tools helps it to standout from many of the other LEGO titles. Throw in the massive amount of items and characters, plus the exciting relics, and there’s a lot to like. Unfortunately, it’s lacking in the storytelling department, has far less longevity than one would expect for the price and often repeats objectives for the side quests. Oh, and it’s frustrating to have so many technical problems.

Nearly every element of The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame can be described as basic or simple. It doesn't hold a candle to other LEGO games, and while the world-building can be interesting, it is much more limited than LEGO's proper sandbox title. The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame game is the definition of average mediocracy. Rent if you're curious, but don't bother with a purchase unless you find it on deep discount and want the Achievements.

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame feels like a rushed attempt to release something by the movie's release: it sports some nice ideas like not having to swap characters to use all the abilities, but it's got several technical problems and the lack of spoken dialogues feels like a step back for the series.
