Whether or not you should purchase The Last Scape on Xbox One boils down to what you want from your games. If you’re happy to take a punt on an experimental title that is massively short on gameplay and ideas, then the low price kind of allows it. But on the other hand, many will consider this another one of those throwaway experiences that don’t really belong on Xbox One.

The Last Scape feels more like a test piece or showcase of some technology that has a basic attempt at adding in some sort of gameplay via hoops thrown in to get you to explore the land. The graphics are OK, but nothing to brag about; the technology it is based on is more interesting than this game. If there is more to The Last Scape and I missed it, then it’s way too cryptic and far too uninteresting to bother trying to discover.

Using LIDAR laser scan data to accurately render the real world, The Last Scape takes you on a breathtaking flight around an incredible mountainous area. The game is entirely flying around and finding all of the hoops to fly through. I feel like this is less of a game than a demonstration of the incredible graphics displayed here. The game uses over one billion 3D points to create this exquisite landscape. Compared to the Xbox one X the other two consoles slightly fail to provide the entire experience. The owners of this game will also receive it on the Series X when it releases at no further charge. The price is tiny, and aptly so as there is very little more than the incredible landscape. The controls are smooth and simple so nearly anyone can enjoy playing it. With nice music and wildly beautiful landscapes, The Last Scape is a wonderful place to escape for a while here and there.
