I must admit that I’ve really enjoyed The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing series and I was pleased to learn that the third instalment was making its way to console. This instalment follows the same path as the previous two game’s, which means it has problems but it is a decent game to sink quite a few hours into. This instalment follows the same path as the previous two game’s, which means it has problems but it is a decent game to sink quite a few hours into. The story in the game is as good as ever and the best thing is that it remains interesting and pretty much satisfies you at every turn. The gameplay in the game has once again been done very well and the mechanics combine perfectly and hold up really well the whole way through. I was however a little disappointed to learn that once again there is a level cap and I would have definitely liked a little more freedom. The reason I would have liked more freedom is because there are a number of different classes for you try and each class has been done very well, but unfortunately you don’t get the full benefit of each class because of the level cap. Another problem with the game is that it can be a little too complicated at times and the descriptions they give you often don’t help with the problems that you face. Exploring in the game can be very fun at times and finding loot can be a real treat, but some of the loot you come across is pretty much useless and this can be a little disheartening at times. The presentation side of the game follows the usual formula of the previous game’s and I’m glad they continued in this way. Visually the game can look great at times and the accompanying sound design does an excellent job of making your time with the game very immersive. At the end of the day if you’re a fan of The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing series then you will be once again pleased with what’s on offer here. They don’t however do anything spectacular and the content in the game is content that you’ve probably seen hundreds of times, and that in my opinion is the game’s biggest problem. Don’t get me wrong they do a wonderful job with the mechanics in the game, but the shortcomings the game suffers with definitely stop it from reaching its full potential. Shortcomings aside though the game does just enough to get a recommendation from me. Expand

    A tiresome Diablo pretender that's somewhat elevated by a fangs-sharp script. [March 2018, p.80]

All in all and The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III does enough to claim its place in the pantheon of ARPG games. It’s not as polished as Diablo 3, or even as Path of Exile, but the charm of the environment and the wish to see the next level are both strong. It’s not perfect, but this third entry in the series is the best to date.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III doesn’t stack up against the likes of Diablo, but it does indeed provide a well rounded action-RPG experience nevertheless. It implements much of what worked in the immediate predecessor and improves upon what didn’t. The game provides plenty of action, heaps of loot, and a conclusion that neatly wraps up the overarching story. With minor issues to the side, this installation is arguably the best in the trilogy.
