Tcheco in the Castle of Lucio is a 16bit 2D Platformer. You play as Tcheco, an odd fellow with rocket boots that wears a frown when he's not wearing a grin. The graphics are very retro feeling with minimum and fast animations, but runs and controls quite smoothly. The background and foreground don't really have much distinction, especially as there is a lot of background that is foreground. That being said, it's not always evident where you have to go or what you have to do. I got frustrated many times trying to figure out how to actually leave a level. One early example is the stage with the Soccer ball, where you have to climb the background to get the key, to unlock the goal, so you can kick the ball into the goal, which drops bombs that you have to avoid, and those break the window and that's how you get out. The stages themselves seemed to be irreverent to one another, making the flow of the "castle" feel off. Some of the higher levels are hard nearly to the point of unfairness, but I would figure it out and realize that all my deaths were my fault. Tcheco in the Castle of Lucio is a hard platformer, demanding precise timing and tons of patience, and may not be the best starting place for someone new to platforming. It also serves up a few new ideas along the way. If you like a solid platformer that'll make you work for it, here you go! Expand

Tcheco in the Castle of Lucio on Xbox One is unapologetically a retro, 2D platformer that looks and plays as if it’s been plucked straight out of yesteryear. Not only should it be commended for this, but also for the addition of a mode that caters better for the modern gamers.

Tcheco in the Castle of Lucio manages to faithfully capture the feel of the NES titles of old – both good and bad. It’s easy to pick up and play and can be rewarding at times, but the retro visuals and design mean it can be equally frustrating to play. Good for short bursts here and there, just be sure to bring all the patience you can muster with you.
