Task Force Kampas on Xbox One can be a fun and unique experience for those who have never stepped into the fascinating world of Japanese doujin shooters. All things considered it’s a pretty basic arcade shooter, and the gameplay variety is fairly limited, but the challenge and level design can be compelling as you slowly improve and get a higher score.

If Task Force Kampas featured a more structured campaign then it would easily be a must-have shoot 'em up. It's still very fun, though.

Usually to get different types of shots you have to get the drops off the stages, not here. You get to chose from five ships, some unlockables, with their own bullet pattern. As you complete different sections of the game, you get to choose from one of two powerups, there are more than two, but you are only given two to chose from at a time, including Double Shots, or Health. Most of the time one hit will kill you, well again TFK breaks away from the norm with a health bar, that two hits will deplete, that you can recharge by not shooting. You also have a power gauge that fills as you destroy enemies, and this will increase the intensity of your bullet pattern. There are three bosses to tackle, each delivering their own special flavor of bullet hell for you to dodge while trying to take them down. There isn't much in the way of enemy variety, but there isn't a lot of room or time for that as an entire playthrough can be accomplished in under 10 minutes. This game packs a lot into a tiny title though. I beat the game and acquired all of the achievements in under half an hour, but I just kept playing! This simple Shmup is quite addictive, and replaying it to fill the in-game leaderboard with my initials was a must! Shmup fans grab this little title up as it's impressive for its size. Full Review »
