Super Blood Hockey is something retro to say the least, and this retro style is felt immediately thanks to the graphics and sound design which are packed with classic presentation. I was a bit let down by no online play because I feel Super Blood Hockey would’ve benefited from it nicely. Thankfully though this wasn’t too much of a problem in the end because there is a solid selection of modes for you to play and fighting is fun even if a little bit more depth would’ve been nice. Despite the few imperfections and the slight repetitiveness that accumulates when playing the game on your own Super Blood Hockey is still a fun game that is best when played with a friend. If you’re looking for some old-school hockey action then Super Blood Hockey is something that will satisfy your craving. Solid game for the low price of admission. Expand

Are you old enough to remember Ice hockey on the NES? Where you had the three different size characters/ The skinny guy skated really fast, but got knocked down super easy. The average guy was well rounded with his abilities, and the big guys were power houses and always knocked you off your feet with ease. "Super Blood hockey" is the same concept and fun level except far more in depth. It offers more modes, and really wacky and hilarious moments. You create a owner taking over a new Hockey franchise. You can choose the location of the team and even create it's name. You can't how ever edit the players names that would have been a cool option. I guess since it's hard to keep them alive and healthy that doesn't really matter. See in Super Blood Hockey when you lose a fight you can lose a player for good if they are fatality injured. Which sucks if you been upgrading them awhile, and have their stats up. So win those fights. The first time I played I really didn't understand that so I was buying new players like crazy , and I was in the playoffs and really under manned talent level wise. See you purchase players when they die and they start off weak. So the key is to win games, and win fights so you keep your team and make them strong. You also want to be a successful franchise, so the less you have to spend the better. You have to watch everything on this franchise mode it is so in depth. You monitor their workouts, brain damage, even what they eat. You can even purchase them illegal drugs to help with this , but be careful you can over dose. You don't want to be that guy that over doses on Weed do you?
Their injuries can just be short time to, but you have to pay for every day you keep them alive. You can pull the plug on them as well it's hilarious. The game is loaded with options and laughs. I really think the Indie market is where the best Hockey games are to be found. This and Bush League are two indie games i'd take over NHL any day of the week. Both these Indies bring something the major developers are just lacking and that's originality and fun. There is couch coop, and versus. No online though my only real Con for this game. Every one knows how expensive those servers are though so can't complain when the small titles don't have the option. There are Challenges like 12 on 12 which is just chaos. There is just so much fun to be had with this one. Probably my favorite indie sports title this year so far.
Is it for you though? I think so if you like sports, and like retro sports games. I really mean it when I saw it's just like Ice hockey as far as on the Ice. If you loved that as much as i did your gonna love this even more.

Pros: Looks just like a classic NES Sports title
    Music and sounds are great
Franchise mode is addictive and fun
Challenges are fun to play as well

Cons: No Online Play, but has Leaderboards

Overall: 8.0 Super Blood Hockey is NES Ice Hockey on Steroids. Without any question the best Indie sports title this year, and top 5 one of the best hockey games ever made.

Super Blood Hockey will keep you entertained for hours with its simple and addictive gameplay. You’ll find that there is simply nothing more fun than starting a brawl just for the sake of it, and the humour in the Franchise Mode is on point. An all-around brilliant game.

I have fond memories of a few ice hockey games from the 16-bit era, and Super Blood Hockey certainly evokes that in its presentation and general gameplay. Despite some UI niggles in the franchise mode that can make managing your team a bit of a slog, there’s a lot of silly, violent fun here that had me laughing and coming back for more. Couch multiplayer will likely see the violence spilling off screen, but what’s a little slap between friends?
