Severely underrated game. I came in expecting just a fraction of what is here. Reviews are insane these days. I'm not really sure what people even expect in games. Apparently, being able to do 4+ sports on a gigantic mountain range where you can wingsuit your way from a hot air balloon and then ski or snowboard down an entire mountain ending up in a village by a frozen lake is not enough anymore.

You also have the ability to dictate time of day and ambiance whenever you like. There is always something to guide you properly to where you need to be, and all challenges are easily accessible both on the mountain map and through menus.

No other game allows this type of freedom in this genre. Hell, this genre is almost gone. It's sad that people do not want to support games like this anymore.

All the while people are online with you, and you can buddy up with other players. Right now I think it's great that you can just ski down the mountain with a random person you just met. I don't get how this game is scoring below an 8 at all. And many do actually agree. At least the people playing the game seem to be enjoying it a lot. There is a decent customer base here too. I hope when the game drops in price more will pick it up.

Let's get to the show: there is a lot to do in this game. A lot of scores to break. I think more or less people should expect this to be like a Driveclub game. It's all about getting better and better with runs. Yet there is a competent story mode and plenty of customization when it comes to character.

Once you start exploring around and getting a few golds the controls become second nature to me. After the last patch it plays like a dream mostly. Wingsuiting has never been done better. Snowboarding and skiing are entirely competent and at times an amazing experience. Especially for the ten minute runs that have you going over so much terrain.

Alaska DLC is coming as a free patch for everyone. Nevermind the fact that most games in the past like SSX3 had one mountain not even as big as the main range here. Yes, I too love SSX. But this is a slightly more realistic version of SSX with not as much flash and a lot more realism. Carving and shredding snow has never felt this good in years.

Honestly, so far this is a ten for me. The game is everything I needed it to be, and more patches, optimization, and fixes will come in the future. For now the game is online only for those that care, but an offline mode will surely be patched in later.

At first I regretted buying this game, was more simulation than I wanted, hard to navigate, and didn't understand the game. But I kept coming back to the game and when I figured it out I was hooked. SO smooth, addicting challenges, great coop. Just give it a chance!

Best snowboarding game to come out in a long time. I picked up Mark McMorris Infinite Air, and I like Steep way better. Game looks and sounds amazing. The area to ride is massive and better looking than any other snowboard game to date. I

A great concept, and I am a huge fan of snowboarding games, have been since I played games like Cool Boarders and 1080, so trust me when I said that I really wanted to give this game a solid 10.

What we have here is a game that does about as many things wrong as it does right. For example the environments look great and the character animations look really smooth and respond appropriately, the snowboarding and skiing is well represented and easily the reason to get this game, even the wingsuit and paragliding is well done, and as you explore the game you can really get a sense that the developers just wanted you to be able to go out and explore sort of like you would in Skate and just find ideal lines to repeat or new spots.

Now I have played this game a lot, pretty much unlocked most of what there is to unlock, seen what there is to be seen, and progressed through the challenges. It's satisfying for that winter games itch if you are like me and also a big fan of snowboarding games. Thing is it isn't perfect... far from in fact.

To start lets talk about the snowboarding/skiing, pretty much the entire reason to buy this game. Best way to describe it is somewhere between 1080 for the N64 and Skate for the PS3/360. You sort of have that sim/arcade kind of balance that those games had and a lot of the gameplay seems to be inspired by both games. For example it has that same damage mechanic that 1080 had for landing big jumps and going over rough terrain, but here it's a bit different. What they have done here is give you what they call a "G meter." Now this g meter sort of acts like the COD recovery mechanic, where when you take damage you will hear your character react and the screen will start to go black and white until your character finally gives up or recovers after a few seconds of not taking any damage.

Sounds like a good idea right? Well I would have to agree... if it worked right. Problem is it is inconsistent, and inconsistency is a subject that generally rules my disappointment with this game. For example sometimes it will react appropriately, sometimes it seems like it doesn't react at all, and other times it seems hyper sensitive and goes off seemingly at random putting you on the verge of death when you feel like that shouldn't have happened. Now this is a problem that brings down my score in the end as it leads to a lot of frustration due to the ragdoll effects that happen when you exceed the g meter. When this happens you will literally just watch your character flip, flop, and flail around helplessly and without any attempts to regain composure as if they have gone completely unconscious. This would make sense if the character truly did go unconscious, but the problem is that apparently they don't. The game has an entirely different reaction for when you go unconscious, which is when you endure too much punishment for your character to get back up.

This is pretty bad as you will often watch your character flop around helplessly for what can seem like over half a minute at times. It can be pretty funny or entertaining if you aren't trying to do something, but when you are trying to race or need to go somewhere and your character just keeps flopping around it works like an instant death maneuver. For me this has led to a lot of frustration due to the issues with the g meter mentioned earlier, but this isn't the end of what is wrong with the snowboarding skiing, as I still need to get into the controls.

Now the controls are a real mixed bag. The scheme seems simple enough and at the best of times it is, but the problem is that feels terribly inconsistent at times to the point to where you can sometimes feel like you are merely suggesting what you want your character to do as opposed to controlling them directly. For example, take the freestyle trick controls. You use the right trigger to jump, the left analog to spin and flip, but you can only perform your spin and flip actions on the controller after you have jumped, so in other words there is no "pre-load" like you have in games like SSX. This can be fine, but it doesn't always seem to respond correctly. Sometimes you will perform the maneuver you desires, and other times you will watch your character just do nothing at all. That is right, for some reason, if the game decides you didn't move your analog stick in the spin or flip direction you wanted you will just watch your character stubbornly refuse to do anything. This also works for the jumping, which seems like it has a delay. So not only do you need to jump before you think you would, but the game doesn't even seem to allow you to jump at times as it will cancel out or not even register for some weird reason.

Anyways I think that is enough about the snowboarding and skiing. Oh, there is also some wingsuit and paragliding stuff in this game. It's alright, but I wouldn't get the game for it. Serves best as a means for exploration.

I give this game a C+, could be much better as it is

The game looks a controls great and there is a lot to do. The controls are similar to other games of the same vein. Pulling off big tricks is extremely rewarding and the game gives you the ability to do a run over again if you mess up on a challenge. It has an open world that is a giant mountain that you can literally go anywhere on so the amount of different things to discover and do seems endless.

    The Bad...
The open world has other users in it and the users can create their own content by marking a run for other users to do and try out. While this seems great it doesn't feel that fleshed out.
Also, while this world is big and open and there are a lot of other users around it also can feel quite barren which is unfortunate. Also, when customizing your character there is no indication that buying new equipment will change anything which is unfortunate since different equipment in the real world handles and feels very different....

    The Ugly...
The camera is very frustrating. As good as the game controls that camera often times will not allow your character go in the correct direction. Also, I have had my character get "stuck" a few times. The game gives you the ability to walk out anytime you are stuck but if you are in the middle of a challenge you will just have to restart, which as you can imagine is frustrating.

    Summary...

This is a great game that is a lot of fun to play. While it has some shortcomings (quite a few actually) when the game is at its best it's great and the good outweighs the bad significantly.

    This is a great game.

The fact that there are 0 loading screens except for when you first boot the game blows my mind. You can pop anywhere you want at any time and you'll be there instantly. The map is massive and it's only going to get bigger with the FREE Alaska map dlc. Tons of customization from wacky costumes to serious snow gear. The controls take a little bit to get used to but

You can Spawn at the top of a mountain, make a line and then share that line with your friends as a challenge, race, best jump, etc. It has its glitches but no game breaking ones I've seen yet. Did I forget to mention the game is BEAUTIFUL? Everytime you do anything in this game it's screenshot worthy because of the beautiful Vistas. As someone who put 30 hours into the beta and 25 so far since release I highly recommend this to anyone looking for something new and fun.

I thought the digital version was suppose to be less? After dl'g, I went to play by starting the game, and it would not connect to the Steep server. And, without that connection, the game could not be played at all. I guess there is no playing offline. I tried resetting everything, still the same Steep server connection error. Ubisoft support was useless, as I could not even get through. Fortunately, I got through to Microsoft who was real good and refunded me the money spent on this game. Ubisoft makes even EA look good. I think I am likely done with Ubisoft games. This one was a complete waste of multiple hours of my time. I'm just glad that Microsoft refunded me. Expand

I've never played a snowboarding game in my life. I've always heard people raving about SSX and things of that nature but I never really wanted to get into it. Then I saw the trailer(s) for this game and was instantly drawn in.

First of all, open world is probably the best choice on the spectrum for this type of game. Without it, this game would have never sold more than 10,000 copies

First of all, open world is probably the best choice on the spectrum for this type of game. Without it, this game would have never sold more than 10,000 copies at launch, and I wouldn't have 15 hours logged despite having the game for 2 days.

This game is stunningly gorgeous, like holy s***. I just got done playing one of the mountain stories "The Great Outdoors", and I was left completely speechless from some of the sights combined with great music choices. Graphically, this game is a perfect 10.

Now, if you don't like repetitiveness, DO NOT buy this game. Period. I love the **** out of this game because I have over 1000 hours on Destiny and not once did it get boring. Ever.

The reason I didn't give this a perfect score is because the clipping and spawn glitches are really starting to get on my nerves, on top of the fact that paragliding is THE WORST THING. EVER. I don't even think I have the energy to talk about paragliding right now.

Not all of the mountains are unlocked at first so you do need to level up, but most of the challenges are fun and varied and it's actually quite easy to level up. It's also quite easy to get new gear via the challenges and it's not difficult to save up for some of the cooler items that you need to purchase as well. I will admit that I don't really care a whole lot for the paragliding, but it is useful to get to some out of the way spots so it's not useless. The other three are amazing though. The wingsuit is crazy fun! Wrecking into the sides of the mountain is more fun than annoying which is nice. It's also great that you can restart by just holding down Y for a few seconds. Basically, if you like snowboarding games, you'll enjoy this game. Expand

I'm with the other fellas who rated this Green. This game is already amazing and has the potential to be great. This game is so fun and at a good price that I have it on both PS4 and Xbox One.
The multiplayer is fun with great map rotations. Joining with friends is easy and smooth.
Loading times are fast. And they are still working on this game as multiplayer is still in Beta.

Another Job Well Done by Ubisoft.

STEEP is currently Free on PS4 with PS Plus. Download it. Try it.
I never liked skiing or any of this stuff. Now I do.

Note: I think it would be wonderful if they added other mountain ranges too.

This game should be so incredible but it can't decide if it wants to be a Sim or an arcade game. The controls are so frustratingly unintuitive. It constantly demands insane tricks and high scores but the physics, hit detection and control layout simply don't allow for that. You just end up hitting try again over and over again until you rage quit.

Fun in a mindless way. I got it for the snowboarding but it’s so arcade focused and the controls aren’t as immersive as I would like. If you actually snowboard and understand how to ride at a decent level there’s not too much joy in it. Mark McMorris Infinite Air is a way better game if a more sim oriented experience is what you’re after.

Steep is the best snowboarding / skiing / extreme game you will find out there. Ubisoft managed to re-invent this gaming genre just like EA Black-Box did with the Skate franchise. Ubisoft understood that there is much more in these games than crazy combos and impossible tricks, and there is an audience who is looking for a more realistic experience.

It could have been something special, and there’s tremendous potential for a sequel, but for now, Steep feels like a game of two halves. It tries to do too much and fails to capitalise on what it does best, and as such, makes for a tricky game to recommend.
