Slime-san is a game that I’ve heard a lot of good things about and I know few people who absolutely fell in love with it on the Nintendo Switch. As you can imagine then I was really excited to learn that it was coming to the Xbox One and after sinking quite a few hours into it I can see why quite a lot of people love the game so much. As you can imagine then I was really excited to learn that it was coming to the Xbox One and after sinking quite a few hours into it I can see why quite a lot of people love the game so much. This version that’s made it’s way to the Xbox One is the Superslime Edition and to say there’s a lot of content available to you would be a massive understatement. Having lots of content isn’t always a good thing though but it is here because each little piece of content has lots of variety and it kept me satisfied for ages. Whilst there is an abundance of content to get to grips with the most important aspect of this game is its 2D platforming elements. The platforming in this game is an absolute pleasure to play and became very addictive to its charming style really quickly. Obviously the platforming needs good controls to accompany it and thankfully the controls are perfect. Everything about the controls remain fluid and responsive throughout your time with the game and I didn’t suffer with any problems at all. You will however have to get used to the controls at first though because they can feel a little complicated at the start, but thankfully this is only a small problem and it doesn’t take you very long to get used to them. Something that some people may not get used to is the challenging nature of the game. If you’re a person who gets easily annoyed and lack when it comes to having quite a bit of patience then this game won’t be really enjoyable for you because it can get very challenging. Thankfully I was able to enjoy this game despite its tough difficulty curve and if you ride out the difficult moments you will be very pleased because the amount of variety that’s dotted throughout the game is absolutely brilliant and this means Slime-san stays fresh and interesting for a very long time. Something else that stays fresh and interesting for a very long time is also the presentation side of the game. Visually the game has a very old-school and retro vibe to it and when combined with the excellent sound design they do end up enhancing the gameplay and at the same time they make the game even more fun as well. At the end of the day Slime-san: Superslime Edition is an excellent addition to the 2D platforming genre. It has a lot of wacky and fun stuff throughout and each bit of content that’s included will deliver a fun and enjoyable experience to you for a very long time to come. Expand

Slime-san is a blast through and through. From its normally tight and fun controls, the fantastic atmosphere built by its unique visuals and fun music, there is very little it does wrong - some of those things could be put down to player error. The bite-sized levels and variety of modes, power-ups, plus the amount of content, means that not only is this perfect for those wanting quick retry-based, semi-rogue-like levels, but also those who want a host of varied and interesting content - it really offers bang for your buck, so its thoroughly recommendable to those who enjoy the genre.

Slime-San mimics what made titles such as Super Meat Boy so different, but despite being beautifully unique, it never reaches the same type of greatness.

Slime-san: Superslime Edition is hilarious, perfectly tuned and has an astonishing amount of content, more than enough to keep you going for quite some time. Don’t let the simplistic graphics fool you like it did me initially, as the gameplay is near perfect and can suit nearly any play style or preference. Even after a dozen hours or so, I’ve still a long way to go and much to master. For its price, the value and replayability is enormous and near unbeatable.
