I really enjoyed the easy to pick up and play style because when it does get a little too challenging that style made me want to return back to the game. The presentation side of the game creates a very memorable atmosphere and both the visuals and sound design combine together extremely well.

There are a number of different elements in play at the same time and each different element gives the game charm and in some ways uniqueness. In terms of content there is a decent amount for you to be getting on with and with this a decent amount of replayability is also available to you. The difficulty curve can be a little problematic and unfair at times which can cause you to get annoyed every now and then. It does get repetetive quite quickly due to its lack of depth so I recommend that you play the game in short bursts. There’s nothing new that makes it stand out over the many game’s that are in this specific genre. Over recent years we’ve seen an influx of survival game’s that have made their way to consoles, and whilst they were fun and unique at first I can’t help but feel that this specific genre is going a little stale. Despite this though I still have a little bit of excitement present when trying a new game in this genre and Skyhill had a presentation that ticked a lot of boxes for me so I was intrigued a little. Thankfully after sinking a few hours into Skyhill I actually enjoyed what was delivered to me because it has an easy to pick up and play style and it features a number of different mechanics in play at the same time. These mechanics combine together really well but I would still recommend that you play this game in short bursts because it does get repetetive quite quickly due to the game’s lack of depth. The high difficulty doesn’t help either but I recommend that you ride this out because in terms of content the game has a decent amount for you to get to grips with. This then means that Skyhill does enough to get a recommendation from me because even though it doesn’t offer you anything different it does everything it’s supposed to do pretty well.

Skyhill will delight 2D survival gamers with its smart and challenging gameplay.

Because everything is generated randomly, certain characters or events may not occur, making each playthrough slightly different. And, to top it off, there are multiple endings to unlock, so Skyhill definitely has some replay value to it.

Skyhill does a good job with its simplistic foundation, offering a core experience that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The constant uncertainty that looms overhead together with its randomly generated content, makes for some very tense moments. There’s a few issues with the game’s unbalanced systems, but with that in mind, Skyhill still manages to remain both challenging and fun throughout.
