The group consists of two couples and the their friend. It seems like there’s already cracks forming in the group as the couples argue and the friends discuss their fears of how their relationships will change when they move away from each other. It seems like a recipe for disaster from the start. Re:Turn offers a mix of many game genres. It’s a 2D side scroller, puzzle, horror, visual novel type of overall experience, which rightly begs the question if it’s possible to mix that all in a solid game. The developers have cherry picked the best parts of these genres and crafted something that’s enjoyable to enjoy creepy game, full of stories, edge story moments, and one jump scare that was actually surprising during my play. It’s also a game that gets better as you progress. The dialogue between the characters sounds as though it was written by an adult with little understanding of the younger cast, one character seeming to out as seemingly gay. The character’s sexuality wasn’t confirmed but that seems to be the story line After this, the gang tries to get some sleep, and the game actually begins. The main action is a 2D side scroller through engaging pixel art style. When Saki wakes in the night to find the rest of her friends have disappeared, she obviously she sets off in the dark to find them. She soon comes across an abandoned train. When she climbs inside, so begins a creepy quest to locate her friends. Considering how much this game tries to mix the genres, it’s impressive that it never feels overly complicated. Most of the game involves finding items that will help you move onto the next section mainly via keys, clues, or objects lost by other characters. It involves a fair amount of backtracking, but it never feels boring, and it’s always satisfying to have that moment after being stuck for a few minutes. Something shines in the game is the sound depth. The developers have done a great job at filling the game with lots of appropriate tension building music and sounds effects. Laughter to happy music to unexpected knocks, it all works together perfectly to create those why in the world moments that have you waiting for the scare to arrive. Many horror trinkets suck as dolls, masks, severed hands, and monsters abound. it makes for a great gaming experience and ode to the horror genre at its very core. This game is going to appeal to a few different groups of gamers. if you like horror, anime, visual novels, or puzzles, I would recommend giving Re: Turn - One Way Trip a go on your Xbox One. Overall a fun lgame for fans of horror, puzzle, or visual novels. It takes the best parts of these genres and makes them into a smooth experience for all to enjoy, filled with everything you would want in such a unique title for your Xbox One library. Expand

I enjoyed the short adventure for the most part, but by the end, I didn’t feel any specific emotion. The conclusion was a bit of a disappointment and afterward, I realized I actually didn’t get attached to or care much about any of the characters. Switching between the past and present was pretty neat, and I guess I favored the past because it was full of characters to talk to and seemed better suited for the visual style. I love horror but didn’t feel the tense or stressful situations that normally accompany those themes. The puzzles were average but well done for the limited areas you could explore. The biggest let-down was the movement, which is odd considering you can only go left or right.

Re:Turn is a great little gem that easily slots into any horror fan’s collection. The art and atmosphere alone are enough to warrant a look, and the story plays with some interesting themes of love, jealousy, and privilege. As someone who doesn’t normally go for horror games, this one’s hard to pass up.

When it comes to 2D horror games, ReTurn - One Way Trip is a prime example of the genre with a captivating cast and thrilling story.
