Puzzle games like Tetris and Puyo Puyo have been pleasing gamers for generations and I must admit that I love a decent puzzle game. Thankfully Raining Blobs possesses some of the characteristics I seek in a puzzle game, and whilst it has a few problems that take away from your overall experience I must admit that it provided more enjoyable moments than bad moments. Thankfully Raining Blobs possesses some of the characteristics I seek in a puzzle game, and whilst it has a few problems that take away from your overall experience I must admit that it provided more enjoyable moments than bad moments. The gameplay that’s present here has been done really well and the most important thing is that it’s fun. I will say though that if you don’t enjoy a high challenge then Raining Blobs will frustrate you a great deal because the difficulty curve can cause you a few problems at times. In terms of content the game has plenty for you to sink your teeth into and each mode feels considerably different from the other, which is great. Some modes are definitely better than others and I found the game to be most enjoyable when played in local co-op. It does have single player content as well, but I found the story mode to be a little basic which ultimately resulted in the memorable moments being few and far between. When it comes to the replay value in the game then you will actually be quite surprised because there is quite a lot of it present. The main reason for the high replay value is due to the leaderboards which will definitely have you returning multiple times. In order to get the full value of this game though you will have to look past a few niggling problems and the main problem for me was the controls, which were definitely a nuisance at times. The presentation side of the game ticks a lot of boxes for me. Visually the game’s art looks great at times and the accompanying soundtrack is very catchy and the best thing is that it never seems to get on your nerves. At the end of the day Raining Blobs might not do anything different from the other game’s in this particular genre, but in my opinion it doesn’t need to because the tried and tested formula is still enjoyable to this day and this makes Raining Blobs a good addition to the puzzle world. It does however suffer with a few problems that stop it from reaching its full potential, but it gets more things right than wrong and for that reason it does enough to get a recommendation from me. Raining Blobs isn't trying to be some epic RPG game or some action packed shooter that's filled with beautiful content and a sweeping musical score. Instead, Raining Blobs is trying to be a throwback retro puzzle game on a modern platform that highlights some of the vintage puzzle atmospheres of the past. While I wish there were some tweaks, the overall style of the game itself is worth checking out, but not for $9.99. If the game ever gets to $4.99 on sale, and you like puzzle games (which don't have stupid odd point based achievements like some OTHER puzzle games have had) that involve anime girls in skimpy outfits getting blasted by blobs, then this is the game for you...blobmaster.

Raining Blobs suitably entertains in short bursts due to the Arcade mode and the mildly addictive Puzzle mode. It’s a shame that the other modes are unfairly difficult, the visuals aren’t good at all, and the idea of having loads of players on a single TV at once just doesn’t work.
