Outbreak games have provided me with some enjoyable moments and took me down memory lane quite a few times, but the two previous games were unfortunately riddled with problems. Whilst there are a few problems that remain in the new Outbreak game without a doubt Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles is the best game in this series of games so far. Whilst there are a few problems that remain in the new Outbreak game without a doubt Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles is the best game in this series of games so far. The puzzles that have been implemented in this game feel better than all the rest, and actually some of them are pretty clever. There is also the added bonus of a lot of variety in each puzzle and they make it worthwhile completing these puzzles, which is great. You will however have to get used to the fiddly controls when trying to complete these puzzles, and from time to time they will frustrate you because they don’t always remain responsive. Thankfully though these problems don’t always occur and you end up forgetting about them thanks to the gameplay. The gameplay still has a few niggling problems, but on the whole it feels much improved over the other two games. It feels smoother and dealing with the enemies is easier, and the best thing is that each enemy has plenty of variety which in turn makes each enemy you face quite scary. Whilst the gameplay has seen some significant improvements unfortunately the same can’t be said for the camera. The camera can be a real nuisance at times and whilst I like that they’ve tried to recreate the old-school feel with the camera I just wish it wasn’t as frustrating as it was at times. Thankfully though the camera doesn’t do too much damage to the game and you can easily forget about it once you become immersed in the game’s story, which I might add is pretty good. Without a doubt the story kept me invested throughout my time with the game and the diary pages that add to the overall story give you a big reason to carry on, which is great. For me the biggest improvement with this game in the series is it’s presentation. Don’t get me wrong it still suffers with a few issues with the animation side of things, but everything else feels like its had a touch of polish. This is very evident when it comes to the visuals and sound design, and without a doubt this added polish makes things become more scary and at the same time more immersive as well. At the end of the day considering this game has been developed by one person I must admit that I’m pretty impressed with the end result. This game is definitely my favourite game in the series so far and by getting the basics right it means fans of the old-school Resident Evil style will enjoy this game quite a bit, and because I’m a fan of this style it does enough to get a recommendation from me.… Expand
